  • Honours Project
Honours Project Title: Changing Representation of Introversion in 21st century American Teen Movies Course Instructor: Dr. Yu Kwan Wai, Eric Name: Chak Choi Yan SID: Date of submission: 30/4/2020 0 “We live with a value system that I call the Extrovert Ideal – the omni-present believe that the ideal self is gregarious, alpha, and comfortable in the spotlight (Cain, 2013, pp.4)” Introduction The studies of introversion and extroversion There is no exact definition of introversion and extroversion. As a matter of fact, the word “introversion” did not carry a psychological meaning of the tendency of “withdrawing from the world” until psychologist Carl Jung defines this term in 1912 (Online Etymology Dictionary, 2020). He defines that transference (which he later referred as extroversion) and introversion as the two basic mechanisms in psychoses and introversion is defined as a way for people to detach themselves from the reality (Jung, 1912). Since then, psychologists have debated about the definitions of the two terms and how the two mechanisms influence people in the ways they think. Jung defines that introverts are individuals whose objective world declines and that they themselves are the center of their interests (Jung & Schmid-Guisan, 2015). On the contrary, extroverts are those who contribute their interests to the outer world and attributes importance to it. Jung (1921) also proposes that the two types are on a spectrum and there are no pure introverts or pure extroverts. In other words, one can be more introverted and less extroverted. Introverts are considered reserved and quiet in social situations (Rothmann & Coetzer, 2003).

! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SAMUEL GOLDWYN FILMS ACQUIRES NORTH AMERICAN RIGHTS TO JOSEPH CROSS’ COMING-OF-AGE FILM ‘SUMMER NIGHT’ Los Angeles, CA (December 12, 2018) – Samuel Goldwyn Films announced today that the company has acquired North American rights to Joseph Cross’ feature film SUMMER NIGHT. The film stars Ellar Coltrane (BOYHOOD), Ian Nelson (THE BOY NEXTDOOR), Analeigh Tipton (TWO NIGHT STAND), Callan McAuliffe (THE GREAT GATSBY), Ella Hunt (ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE), Hayden Szeto (TRUTH OR DARE), Bill Milner (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS), Lana Condor (TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE), Elena Kampouris (BEFORE I FALL), Khris Davis (DETRIOT), Melina Vidler (TV’s 800 Words), with Victoria Justice (THE OUTCASTS), and Justin Chatwin (TV’s Shameless). The film will be released in Spring 2019. It’s the last days of summer. Best friends Seth and Jameson are getting ready to perform—and party—at local rock venue The Alamo. But before the night begins, both young men come face- to-face with serious reality checks: Seth receives life-changing news from his girlfriend Mel, and Jameson has to choose between his on-again-off-again girlfriend Corin and a new girl he’s just met, the outspoken Harmony. At the show, Seth and Jameson’s friends are too caught up in their own lives to be much help: young rocker Taylor romances his new crush Dana, and awkward Jack “Rabbit” avoids his childhood friend Lexi after learning what she did at her sister’s wedding. These intertwining friend-dramas, fueled by a lot of drinking, unfold against a backdrop of live music performed by the best bands in town.
