IWyoming FC is one of the longest standing members of Central Coast Football (previously CCSA) and has always been an active participant in the Central Coast football family. I have had the opportunity to watch and interact with Wyoming FC over my 30 year involvement with football on the Central Coast as player, referee and administrator of the game. During this time I have seen the club change and develop in many different ways. Wyoming has always been proactive in the development of players and the game on the Central Coast; however the one element that I believe holds Wyoming FC in good stead is its culture. Wyoming FC is what I would call a family club. This is evident by the length of service of a number of its players, its officials and the people you see at the games. Wyoming has always been a welcoming place to visit and its culture travels beyond the football field to interact with its wider family. Another unique attribute of the club is the number of parents and children that have come through the club together. The Club has survived some tough times such as relegation from the Premier League but has always fought back to strength. For those who don’t know I was privileged enough to be on the ground for one of Wyoming FC finest matches, the 2004 Premier League grand final against East Gosford at Central Coast Stadium. As the referee of the match I was on the field prior to kick off and can still vividly remember looking up into the Western Grandstand and viewing a sea of Black and Gold. This to me typified Wyoming’s spirit. I also remember as a ten-year old watching the likes of Frank and Bob O’Toole, Kevin Best, Bruce Philips and Co. That seems so long ago and yet just like yesterday. I have seen a lot of people come through the ranks of Wyoming Football club and I feel fortunate to have been able to spend time with them and to still call some of them my friends today. But for me my personal memory will always be the excitement I got when I received an appointment to referee Wyoming’s First Grade team. It didn’t matter where they were running in the competition they always were a passionate team that I enjoyed interacting with on the field. From players like Phil Robson in my younger days to the likes of Marcus Steele, Michael Kennedy and Ryan Marshall of late I would always go home after a Wyoming match knowing that they had given everything and that I had enjoyed that challenge of refereeing this passionate team and club. Because of the culture of Wyoming FC I am sure the club will only go from strength to strength in the future. ANDREW CLARK MATTHEW SIMON IAN McANDREW BRADY SMITH 6 THE HISTORY OF THE WYOMING FOOTBALL CLUB 1970-2010 INTRODUCTION Alistair Kennedy & Kevin Best his book is an update of the original Wyoming Soccer Club history Twritten and published back in 1990 to commemorate the Club’s 20th anniversary. That book was 100 pages in length and was produced with the most basic of publishing technology, without scanners, digital cameras or desktop publishing software. An additional 20 seasons and major advancements in computer technology and digital photography has not only tripled the size of the book but, more importantly, allowed it to be produced to a much improved quality. Having said that the book could not have been produced without those numerous, and frequently anonymous people who prepare match reports for publication in the ‘Central Coast Express’ (throughout the 1970s), later (from 1978 onwards) in the club bulletin and in recent years on the club’s website. We would especially like to thank people such as Marlene Bailey, Dave Goy, Les Place, Peter Morrison and Peter Bech for their foresight in retaining most of their old issues of Tiger Tales. Also to Laurie Godfrey whose scrapbook of newspaper cuttings saved a considerable amount of time that would otherwise have been spent scrolling through newspapers at Gosford Library. The photographs, which are such an important feature of a book such as this, come from a variety of sources and our thanks go to the many people who entrusted them to us for copying, especially in the early years when the copying process was much more complex than it is today. Special thanks to Jorg Breitkopf, Marlene Bailey, Gordon Dorrough, Steve Field, Marie Frost, Bobby Bray, Phil Robson and Dave Sullivan . Also to Steve Hogg who was the club’s official photographer for most of the 1980s and who passed on all of his prints and negatives from that period. Likewise with the club’s current official photographer, Anthony Deans. Thanks also to the many biographers and autobiographers who were able to provide some background on the players and Life members whose profiles appear throughout the book. A note of caution to readers and a plea for your assistance. The various records, statistics and player listings
