80 : In East Service »••< gBm^uKMKMKKBKMtMKUMHUMUMHHBM ■ Kole's A Good Trick by ROBERT WALKER Andre Kole, a world renowned illusionist, appeared January 12 in the Hanner Fieldhouse. Kole was presented by Campus Crusade for Christ, an organization dedicated to spreading the teachings of Jesus The show was advertised as a magic show and nothing else (unless you had time to read the fine print at the bottom of the page). Because of this there has been much controversy about the method used by the Crusaders to get people to the show. The show itself consisted of a 50-50 mix of Magic Tricks and testimony about the Bible and Jesus. The tricks were conducted with much skill and were very convincing. It was obvious that the man had practiced many years and was dedicated to perfecting his tricks. As for the testimony for Jesus there didn't seem to be the same perfection in the presentation as in the tricks. The purpose of the tricks was to show that it was easy to be illusioned and that most anyone could do it. The main trouble was that it seemed like two completely different BECAUSE OF THE MAD messages. The tricks did show that it is easy to be illusioned and the DO&S-THE DRVNKHSPPtES-1 testimony did show that the man was a Christian, but the tricks in- THE CRAVED SaUIKRELS- stead of adding to the effect of the testimony, actually took away from ETC. ETC> j £-rc it. The thought that stayed in my mind was that if Kole's tricks were illusions, what he said about Jesus might be, too. The two factions of the show were both good but still the fact remains that putting on a show like this is like advocating peace and going to war to prove it. Campus Crusade is a fine organization dedicated to the spread of the word, but they might do good to take a second look at how they go about it.
