Clinical trial Design and setting: Systematic review of clinical trials conducted and reported in accordance with the Preferred Aromatherapy Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guideline. Electronic databases of the Alternative therapy Cochrane, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched from inception to November 2018. Intervention: Essential oil of any type, standard treatment and placebo. Main outcome measures: Outcomes of the study include total acne count, acne severity index, reduction in total acne surface area, number of non-inflammatory acne lesions and inflammatory acne lesions, microbial cure rate, microbial decolonization rate, and new microbial emergence. Results: Non-significant but higher proportion of MRSA was cleared in EOs group (69% [95%CI: 34%,96%]) compared to routine care (45% [95%CI: 36%, 53%]). Essential oils significantly lowered level of new MRSA emergence (9% [95% CI: 5%, 14%], I2 = 86.59%) compared to routine care (53% [95%CI: 30%, 75%], I2 = 86.59%). Four of the five studies on acne treatment showed equal or superior efficacy of EOsandthe remaining one showed inferior efficacy to a control. In treatment of topical fungal infections, efficacy ofessential oils were non-inferior compared to a standard treatment but superior to a placebo. Conclusion: Essential oils could be considered as alternative treatment for acne, decolonization of MRSA, and topical fungal infections, yet the low quality and heterogeneity among the studies calls for further studies. 1. After microsatellite analysis, we differentiated between the wild form ( Myrtus communis L.) and two cultivated varieties: the one original to the Alhambra, the Moorish myrtle (subsp. baetica ), and the variety introduced in more modern times (subsp. tarentina ). The genetic and morphological differences between these two varieties confirm the taxonomic distinctness of the subsp. baetica . With very few individuals known, this Moorish myrtle is on the verge of extinction. The genetic identification offers the opportunity to restore a key element of this 14th-century garden and enhance the authenticity of a World Heritage site. It has a wide range of host plants especially citrus trees. Medfly males are strongly attracted to plant semiochemicals. Exposure to such substance increased their mating success. In the current study, it was investigated whether a similar effect resulted from male exposure to the myrtle (M. communis) essential oil. Myrtle is a perennial shrub belonging to the Myrtaceae family and is widely distributed in the Mediterranean area. Myrtle essential oil was extracted and analysed by GC and GC-MS. The chemical composition revealed that most of the major components are monoterpenes (1,8-Cineole, alpha-pinene, Linalool, Limonene) and are similary found in citrus flavedo and orange essential oil. Laboratory trials suggest that exposure to myrtle essential oil significantly enhanced the medfly mating behaviour. It can be inferred from these tests that the myrtle essential oil can be used in insect pest management strategies such as the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT), to improve the mating competitiveness of sterile mass-reared males compared to wild males and therefore contribute to significant reduction of the medfly populations in fruit orchards. The species that commonly cause disease in domestic animals include A. bovis, A. hordeovulneris, A. hyovaginalis, A. israelii, A. naeslundii, A. suis, A. viscosus and Arcanobacterium pyogenes (Songer and Post, 2005). Actinomyces bovis is a common inhabitant of the bovine mouth and infection is presumed to occur through wounds to the buccal mucosa caused by sharp pieces of feed or foreign material. Infection may also occur through dental alveoli, and may account for the more common occurrence of the disease in young cattle when the teeth are erupting (Radostits et al., 2007). Actinomyces viscosus causes periodontal disease and subgingival plaques in hamsters fed a high carbohydrate diet, and also abscessation in dogs (Timoney et al., 1988) in which it is an opportunistic infection (Blood et al., 2007).
