Subscribe to our mailing list and get notified for upcoming sessions 3 WesternCycle_SFS_TeamUnity_Ad_3x4.5\in.indd 1 7/12/17 2:20 PM 4 Saskatchewan Hockey Association Mission Statement To Lead, Develop and Promote Positive Hockey Experiences 5 DID YOU KNOW? – SHA is the governing body for organized hockey in the Province of Saskatchewan. – SHA encourages competition on both a competitive and recreational level for those who enjoy hockey for the sportsmanship, skill and enjoyment it can provide. – SHA operates under a democratic system whereby all members have a voice in the operation of the provincial body through their respective Minor Hockey Associations and Leagues. – SHA is a proud member of Hockey Canada and as such takes an active part in setting national policy. – SHA conducts regional and provincial championship competitions at most levels of Minor, Junior, Senior and Female hockey. – Referees are members of SHA. Referee camps and clinics are held throughout the province. Membership in the SHA entitles teams to the use of registered referees. – Certified Coaching Clinics are provided for members. Instructions are given by qualified instructors. – Rules and Regulations governing hockey are standard across Canada. As a member of the SHA you have an opportunity to recommend rule changes which are then reviewed by the National body. – The SHA acts as an Appeal Board to which any member, team or player may appeal any disciplinary measure or other matter rendered against him/her. – The SHA issues permits for tournaments and exhibition games in order to ensure that participating teams meet age and other registration requirements. – All players and officials of member teams are required to register in the Hockey Canada Registry as outlined by the appropriate section of these By–laws and Regulations. This ensures equity on the basis of age and residential requirements and provides a historical record of a player’s career. – Rule books, training manuals, information bulletins and posters are available to members through the SHA office. – The SHA, by representing amateur hockey throughout the province, serves as a unifying voice in dealing with governments and private agencies in promoting     IN THE VERY BEGINNING BEFORE THE WHL Hockey in Moose Jaw goes by many names. The “Warriors” name can be traced back to as far as 1926, when the Moose Jaw Warriors, a member of the Prairie Hockey League played for a single season. With a 13-12-2-3-3 record, the Warriors soon became the Moose Jaw Maroons from 1927-1928. Next, the Maroons became the Millers from 1937-1942. In 1938 until 1966, the Moose Jaw Canucks were part of the SJHL and WCJHL. The Moose Jaw Pla-Mors of the SSHL and WCSHL played in 1958-1971. The Moose Jaw Canucks became part of the WHL for just two seasons in 1966. They were part of the SJHL from 1968-1984. HOME SWEET HOME Opened in 1959, the “Crushed Can” was home to hockey for 51 years. Designed by Saskatchewan architect Joseph Pettick and Vancouver structural engineer J.L. Miller, the Civic Centre won the Massey Medal for architecture. The innovative cable structure roof that gives the building its unique shape was an ingenious and cost effective solution that allowed such a large building to be constructed on a modest budget, while maintaining an unobstructed view of the arena surface from all seats. At the time it was built it was the largest cable structure in Canada. It is sometimes called "The Crushed Can" because of its unusual shape.     Oct. 5, 2016 Cameco Hockey Day in Saskatchewan coming to Shellbrook and Pinehouse Cameco Hockey Day in Saskatchewan is going north in January and the communities of Shellbrook and Pinehouse will be in the spotlight after winning the right to host the annual celebration. In Shellbrook, the local organizing committee hopes to raise $100,000 to help purchase a new ice plant. The community of 1,500 people will host events from Jan. 16-22, including: Banquet featuring seven-time Stanley Cup champion Bryan Trottier (Jan. 20) SJHL game featuring Battlefords North Stars versus Notre Dame Hounds (Jan. 21) Midget AAA boys Beardy’s Blackhawks versus Prince Albert Mintos (Jan. 21) Midget AAA girls Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats versus Prince Albert Northern Bears (Jan. 21) Three-on-three tournament during the week involving 140 minor hockey players In Pinehouse – a community of 1,500 people located more than 500 kilometres north of Saskatoon – the focus will be on skill development for 90 minor hockey players on Jan. 21. Two highlight games will follow on the afternoon of Jan. 22: Midget AAA boys Beardy’s Blackhawks versus Battlefords Stars Midget AAA girls Swift Current versus Prince Albert Trottier is also scheduled to visit Pinehouse during the weekend. Having two host communities is a first for Cameco Hockey Day and the inclusion of Pinehouse means that the event is going further north than ever before. Cameco Hockey Day is awarded to a different Saskatchewan Hockey Association zone each year. With the northern zone being so large, Cameco and the SHA agreed to involve two host communities this year.
