Poems Short Lane | Alkham | CT15 7BZ Seller Insight

We have loved living here as the location is everything we could have wished for and it will be a sad wrench to leave, but we feel it is time to move nearer to our family. Over the years we have enhanced the bungalow and created the garden from scratch and hope that new owners will be able to enjoy it all as much as we have.

Alkham is a friendly village community with a cricket club and a village hall where there are regular film shows and other activities. It is a wonderful spot if you enjoy walking and cycling and there are bridle paths for riding around the equestrian centre. You can play golf at nearby courses whether it is Etchinghill Golf Club or the and Kingdown Club near Deal and for water sports and sailing there is the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club in . If you want a pleasant meal without having to take the car out the renowned old coaching in, the Marquis of Granby bar and restaurant is within walking distance.

The location is extremely convenient because if you need to commute to London you can be at Folkestone West station in five or six minutes for the high speed train to St Pancras, while it is simple to get to the Eurotunnel for a trips to France. Alternatively either the summer house or study could double as a home office and the property already has high-speed Broadband set up. There are excellent grammar schools in Folkestone, Dover and Canterbury and private schools in Dover, Ashford and Canterbury while the primary school in River has been rated as Outstanding by Ofsted. Shopping facilities are easily accessible in Whitfield as well as Folkestone and the nearby farm shop and the shops in River can cater for any immediate needs.”*

Step inside Poem

Driving through the gateway to Poems and seeing the fabulous white painted bungalow with its unique roof lines and palm trees you are immediately reminded of the beautiful single storey Mediterranean villas you saw when on holiday in warmer climes. However this very charming and unusual family home, originally built in the 1970s, not only has a holiday feel but it also has the added advantage of nestling at the foot of the Alkham Valley hillside in a peaceful and tranquil rural cul de sac, surrounded by fields and woodland.

The property is on a large corner plot and has been extremely well maintained. Nowhere is this better illustrated that in the delightful and well proportioned kitchen/breakfast room. This includes a trendy dark green and steel breakfast bar contrasting charmingly with the warm wood units providing plenty of storage and housing a built in Neff oven and combi microwave as well as a gas hob and integrated dishwasher. Natural light flows into the large and elegant living room with its contemporary raised fireplace acting as a lovely focal point, a veritable wall of windows overlooking the wraparound decked terrace and french doors leading to the beautiful garden.

If you enjoy entertaining the unique atrium style dining area with its glass roof and access to the garden is a great place to enjoy a meal with family and friends. There is a family bathroom with a bath and separate shower and five bedrooms including the second bedroom with an en suite shower. However the accommodation is very versatile and some of the rooms could be used as offices or playrooms but they all have superb views across the surrounding countryside.

Externally this bungalow has it all. There is a large block paved driveway leading to the extra large single garage and providing plenty of off road parking. It is evident that the garden has been lovingly enjoyed and look after by the owners. It includes a charming summerhouse with a balustraded frontage that could always be used as a studio or office. It leads to the lawn with its beautiful specimen trees and mature shrub borders and the large decked patio that is ideal for alfresco dining and a sheltered courtyard style paved terrace that is just the place to relax in the sunshine and revel in the views.
