F. Gilbert Hills State Forest (Wrentham, MA) (508-543-5850)

The Foxboro section of the F. Gilbert Hills State Forest in Foxboro, Massachusetts offers one of the best riding experiences in eastern Massachusetts. The 810 acres of woodlands are densely forested with a variety of hardwood stands and contain a spaghetti-like maze of trails. The rocky gravelly earth, derived from a glacial till, is well drained, rarely muddy, and has little sand.

This wooded area in southeastern Massachusetts has just a few miles of fairly easy and flat single track.The main loop has the usual rocks and roots but nothing too challenging. This is a decent place to bring kids and beginners since there are just enough rocks, roots and mud to make it interesting but very few hills, nothing steep.

Hodges Village Dam (Oxford, MA) (508-248-5697)

Hodges Village Dam, located less than a mile west of the Sutton Avenue exit (4W) of Route 395, on Howarth Road off Charlton Street, Oxford, MA, has some of the most diverse and interesting trails in central MA. There is no permanent lake behind the dam which was built by the Army Corps of Engineers for flood control. It is filled only temporarily with runoff from rainwater which would otherwise cause flooding problems downstream.

A unique and popular destination during the summer is the campground, located on a scenic and wooded peninsula. Also available is a day-use area with sandy beach and several multi-use trails. Hunting is open (in season) for all types of game including turkey, bear and deer.

Wrentham Trails (Wrentham, MA) (508-543-9084)

This deep forest has about 8 miles of rocky single track trails. There is nothing too challenging however these trails will keep you mostly in first or second gear. The staging area has direct trail access to the western section however you will need to cross the pavement to access the eastern side.
