This year, Langwarrin look better equipped to the trials and tribulations of the season. For one, they’ve got the right man in charge. Gav Artico has quickly put his stamp on the Kangas and the players are responding. Langwarrin’s talented young group is evolving and the addition of seasoned campaigners Rikki Johnston, Matt Dimkos and Luke O’Neill has already had an impact. A 68-point win over Karingal in round one, followed by a 32-point win against Pines has given Langwarrin a good folundation – but a stern test awaits the Kangaroos today. They face MT ELIZA, widely tipped to be a leading contender this season. Jimi Johnson, Andrew Withers, Jarryd Amalfi and Blake Harkness have been among Langy’s best performers so far but they will need to maintain it today if the Kangas are to make it three-from-three. Mt Eliza beat Mornington first-up before losing to rival Frankston YCW by 30 points last round, and you can bet John Georgiou and his Redlegs won’t want to lose two on the trot. Reigning champs EDI-ASP has commenced its premiership defence in style, winning its first two games.

Coach Steve Capp said his side didn’t tackle enough last week and lacked pace, something that Mornington may be able to expose today. With two strong wins, FRANKSTON YCW has made an excellent start to the season. The Stonecats have been both dynamic and tenacious as Scott Mathers has made a seamless start to his coaching tenure. Frankston YCW faces arch rival Karingal in its annual Anzac battle for the Berenger-Watts Cup. It means a lot to both clubs and a fierce contest always ensues. Karingal (0-2) is yet to hit its straps as the Bulls’ many newcomers look to develop chemistry with new teammates.

The thirds had a huge win with Hanger kicking 10, Mark’s boys were solid throughout and although playing scrappy and patchy footy the senior group were able to win well.
