Resolution commending the late Jean Shepardfor her contribution to music

WHEREAS, an unprecedented gathering of Oklahoma women involved in music w/ill come together on November 27, 2018,for the inductionof ten of their number into the Oklahoma MusicHallof Fame, and as part of a celebration of the Grand Ladies of Oklahoma in Music; and,

WHEREAS, the late Jean Shepard of Pauls Valley w/ill be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, Jean Shepard was one ofcountry music's most enduring legends, not only was she the first Oklahoma woman to become of a member of the Opry,she has the standing record of as the longest serving member of the in history - 62 years at the time ofher death; and,

WHEREAS, when Jean topped the Billboard charts with her smash "DearJohn Letter" at age 19 she became the youngest female to ever do so. She held that record for nearly 20 years. The song was also the first post War World II record by a female artists to sell more than a million copies; and,

WHEREAS, she would go on to chart another 44 songs on the Billboard charts as well as 15 albums; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Jean Shepard became a member of the 2010 Class of the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame; and,

WHEREAS, in 2011 in recognition for her many historic contributions to , Jean was inducted into the Country Music Hall ofFame; and,

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame, the Oklahoma History Center and Kendall's Restaurant in Noble have joined with the SHINE Foundation to sponsor this special celebration,

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that Tuesday, November 27, 2018, be designated as the Grand Ladies of Oklahoma in Music Day in Oklahoma County.

Resolution commending Barbara l\/lcAlisterfor her contribution to music

WHEREAS, an unprecedented gathering ofOklahoma women involved in music w/7/ come together on November 27, 2018, for the induction of ten of their number into the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame, and as part of a celebration of the Grand Ladies ofOklahoma in Music; and,

WHEREAS, Barbara McAlister ofMuskogee w/ill be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, Barbara McAlister is an acclaimed mezzo-soprano opera singer of Cherokee heritage; and,

WHEREAS, she has won the Loren Zachery competition in LosAngeles and performed in venues rangingfrom Carnegie Hall to the Flensburg Opera House in Germany, where she was a member of the companyfor ten years; and,

WHEREAS, she has won both the Cherokee's Medal of Honor as well the Bare Bones film festival's Living Legend Award; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Barbara McAlister become a member of the 2013 Class of the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame; and,

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame, the Oklahoma History Center and Kendall's Restaurant in Noble have joined with the SHINE Foundation to sponsor this special celebration,

Resolution commending Kellie Coffeyfor her contribution to music

WHEREAS, an unprecedented gatheringof Oklahoma women involved in music will come togetheron November 27, 2018, for the induction of ten of theirnumberinto the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, and as part of a celebration of the Grand Ladies of Oklahoma in Music;and,

WHEREAS, Kellie Coffey of Moore will be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, Kellie Coffey began performing in the Oklahoma Opry at age nine and had herfirst hit with "When /ou Lie Next to Me" in 2004; and,

WHEREAS, Kellie has worked alongsidesome of the biggestnames in music including , Barbara Streisand, and ; and,

WHEREAS, the Academy of Country Music named Kellie the Top NewFemale Vocalist of the year in 2003,

WHEREAS, Kellie has also been a strong advocate for victims of breast cancer; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Kellie Coffey will become a memberof the 2018Class of the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame; and,

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Music Hallof Fame, the Oklahoma History Center and Kendall's Restaurant in Noble have joined with the SHINE Foundation to sponsor this special celebration,

WHEREAS, the late Kay Starr of Dougherty, OK will be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, was one of the most popular and enduring pop and jazz singers of the 1940s and 1950s including having two number 1 hits, ''Wheel of Fortune" and "The Rock and Roll Waltz";and,

WHEREAS, KayStarrsang at the inauguration ofPresident Harry Truman and was later named Oklahoma Ambassador by Gov. George Night; and,

WHEREAS, during her long careershe appeared with such luminaries as Glenn Miller and Charlie Barnett For this and her success injazz musicshe was inducted into the OklahomaJazz Hallof Fame in 2002; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Kay Starr became a member of the 2002 Class of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame; and,

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame, the Oklahoma History Center and Kendall's Restaurant in Noble have joined with the SHINE Foundation to sponsor this special celebration,

Resolution commending the late Evelyn LaRue Pittmanfor her contribution to music

WHEREAS, an unprecedented gathering of Oklahoma women involved in music will come together on November 27, 2018, for the induction of ten of theirnumber into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, and as part of a celebration of the Grand Ladies of Oklahomain Music; and,

WHEREAS, thelate Evelyn LaRue Pittman ofMcAlester will be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, Evelyn Pittman was thefirst block Oklahoman to studyat the Julliard School of Music; and,

WHEREAS, in 1944 she wrote the book "Rich Heritage" about songs offamous Americans; and

WHEREAS, she servedfor many years as a schoolmusic teacher and wrote an opera, "Freedom Child", celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King's father. Rev. Martin Luther King, Sr. heralded the story as being the most authentic work done on his late son; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Evelyn Pittman will become a member of the 2018 Class of the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame; and,

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Music HallofFame, the Oklahoma History Center and Kendall's Restaurant in Noble hove joined with the SHINE Foundation to sponsor this special celebration,

WHEREAS, an unprecedented gathering of Oldahoma women involved in music v^ili come together on November 27, 2018, for the induction of ten of their number into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, and as part of a celebration of the Grand Ladies of Oklahoma in Music; and,

WHEREAS, Leona Mitchell of Enid vi/lll be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, Leona Mitchell is one ofAmerica's leading operatic voices, having sungfor 18 seasons as a leading soprano v/ith the Metropolitan Opera in A/ew York;and,

WHEREAS, she sang the roll of Bess in the first complete recording of George Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess"from which she received a Grammyfor Best Opera Recording; and,

WHEREAS, she has performedfor Presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan, Clinton, and Bush, Sr. along with other dignitaries including Prince Charles, Justice O'Connor, and Bishop Tutu; and,

WHEREAS, for her outstanding career, Leona has been inducted into the Oklahoma African-American, The Oklahoma Jazz, and the Oklahoma Women's Halls ofFames; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Mitchell is also a member of the Oklahoma Hall ofFame and in 2014 was named our state's Cultural Ambassador; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Leona Mitchell became a member of the 2018 Class of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame; and,

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, the Oklahoma History Center and Kendall's Restaurant in Noble have joined with the SHINE Foundation to sponsor this special celebration,

Resolution commending the late Patti Pagefor her contribution to music

WHEREAS, an unprecedented gathering of Oidahoma women involved in music iv/7/ come together on November 27, 2018, for the induction often of their number into the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame, and as part ofa celebration ofthe Grand Ladies of Oklahoma in Music; and,

WHEREAS, the late Patti Page w/// be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, She was the top-chartingfemale vocalist and best-selling female artist of the 1950s, selling over 100 million records during a six-decade long career; and,

WHEREAS, Patti signed with Mercury Records in 1947, and became their first successfulfemale artist and would eventually have 14 additional million-selling singles between 1950 and 1965. Page's signature song, Tennessee Waltz, was one of the biggest-selling singles ofthe 20th century, and is recognized today as one of the officialsongs of the state of Tennessee. It spent 13 weeks atop the Billboard magazine's Best-Sellers List in 1950/51. Page had three additional No. 1 hit singles between 1950 and 1953; and,

WHEREAS, to this date she remains the only person to star in a television show on all three major networks. Between 1948 and 1982, Patti Page charted a total of110 hits on Billboard's TopSellers / Pop Singles Chart, the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart, and the chart.; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Cassie Gaines became a member of the 1997 Class of the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame and was posthumously honored with the Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award in 2013; and,

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, the Oklahoma History Center and Kendall's Restaurant in Noble have joined with the SHINE Foundation to sponsor this special celebration,

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that Tuesday, November 27, 2018, be designated as the Grand Ladies of Oklahoma in Music Day in Oklahoma County.

Resolution commending Norma Jean Beaslerforher contribution to music

WHEREAS, an unprecedented gathering of Oklahoma women involved in music will come together on November 27, 2018, for the induction of ten of theirnumber into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, and as part of a celebration of the Grand Ladies of Oklahoma in Music;and,

WHEREAS, NormaJean Beasler of Wellston will be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, best known as Pretty Miss Norma Jean, she was a major countryrecording star of the 1960s, with 13 singles in the top 40 and 23 recorded albums; and,

WHEREAS, she had her own radio show in Oklahoma City at age 12 and by 1964 Coshbox magazine named her Female Artist of the Year. She also was a member of the GrandOle Opryfor a number of years having been twice nominatedfor Grammys; and,

WHEREAS, NormaJean became one of thefirst female performer regulars on national TVfirst with Ozark Jubilee with Red Foley in1955 and later for seven years on the Porter WagonerShow; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, NormaJean became a member of the 2013 Class of the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame; and,

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Music HallofFame, the Oklahoma HistoryCenter and Kendall's Restaurant in Noble have joined with the SHINE Foundation to sponsor this special celebration,

WHEREAS, an unprecedented gathering of Oklahoma women involved in music will come together on November27, 2018, for the induction of ten of their numberinto the Oklahoma Music i-lall of Fame, and as part of a celebration of the Grand Ladies ofOklahoma in Music; and,

WHEREAS, WandaJackson of Oklahoma City will be among the honorees on thatspecial day; and,

WHEREAS, WandaJackson is one of the most enduring Oklahoma-born musicstars of her time having been recognized as thefirstfemale ever to record a Rock and Roll hit song and among thefirst five to record a countryhit; and,

WHEREAS, she would go on to place 31 hit singles and 11 albums on the Billboard charts; and,

WHEREAS, Wanda is a recipient of a 2005 National Heritage Fellowship awarded by the National Endowmentfor the Arts, which is the UnitedStates' highest honor in the folk and traditional arts. Following suit, the state of Oklahoma named her a Cultural Treasure in 2018,; and,

WHEREAS, Wanda has served as an honorary spokesperson for the SHINE Foundation championing the efforts of criminal justice reform and civicengagement among students; and,

WHEREAS, Wanda has long been known as "The Queen of Rockabilly" and is a member of the Rockand Roll, German Country Music, Rockabilly, International Gospel, and Oklahoma Halls of Fame; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Wanda Jackson became a member of the 2000 Class of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame; and,

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, the Oklahoma History Center and Kendall's Restaurant in Noble have joined with the SHINE Foundation to sponsor this special celebration,

WHEREAS, the late Gus Hardin of Tulsa willbe among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, Gus Hardin was named the best new country artist in 1983 by both Billboard and Cashbox magazines and the top newfemale vocalist by the Academy of Country Music in 1984; and,

WHEREAS, she placed ten singles and three albums on the Billboardcharts throughout the course of her career before being tragically killed at an early age; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Gus Hardin will become a member of the 2018 Class of the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame; and,

WHEREAS, Susie McEntire will be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, Susie McEntire toured with her sister Reba early in her career in the 1980s; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to numerous awards and nominationsfrom TNN, GMA, and CCMA, Susie has been named "Artist of the Year"several times in the field of Positive Country Music. She has also scoredfour ffl singles on the Positive Country radio charts; and,

WHEREAS, a spokespersonfor the Community Learning Council, Inc. based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. CLC is a non profit organization thatfocuses on education to help prevent and stop domestic violence

WHEREAS, Susie has since recorded Christian music and co-hosts the televised "Cowboy Church" program; and,

WHEREAS, for her distinguished career in gospel music, Susie McEntire was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame in 2011; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Susie McEntire will become a member of the 2018 Class ofthe Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame; and,

WHEREAS, an unprecedented gathering of Oklahoma women involved in music will come together on November 27, 2018, for the induction of ten oftheir number into the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame, and as part of a celebration of the Grand Ladies of Oklahoma in Music; and,

WHEREAS, the late Molly Bee ofOklahoma City will be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, Molly Bee was an enduring recording and television star of the 1950s, appearing with Tennessee Ernie Ford, Jimmy Dean, and as Pinky Lee's television sidekick; and,

WHEREAS, her perennial holiday favorite "ISaw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" is still played, long after its 1952 debut; and,

WHEREAS, for her pioneering contributions to music and as an early music performer on television, Molly Bee willbecome a member of the 2018 Class ofthe Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame; and,

WHEREAS, Gail Dovies willbe among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, Gail Davies is a multi-talented singer, and ; and,

WHEREAS, Gail was awarded Best New Vocalist by DJ's ofAmerica in 1980; and,

WHEREAS, Gail broke new ground as country music'sfirstfemale record producer and moreover she became the firstfemale to write, record, and produce her own album; and,

WHEREAS, Gail charted 18 top 40 hits on the Billboard charts and been cited as a role modelfor otherfemale singers including , , , and ; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Gail Davies willbecome a member of the 2018 Class ofthe Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame; and,

WHEREAS, the late Lorrie Collins will be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, with her brother Larry Lorrieformed the rockabilly duo The Collins Kids and in 1953 became regular performers on the hit TV Show Town Hall Party; and,

WHEREAS, Lorrie later won fame as Ricky Nelson's girlfriend on TV as party of the Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet sitcom and in real life; and,

WHEREAS, for having been part of the founding generation ofrockabilly music pioneers, Lorrie and her brother were inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Lorrie Collins will become a member of the 2018 Class ofthe Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame; and,

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame, the Oklahoma History Center and Kendall's Restaurant in Noble have joined with the SHINE Foundation to sponsor this special celebration,

WHEREAS, Samantha Crain has won two Native American Music Awards for her songwriting; and,

WHEREAS, Samantha is also an accomplished poet and music producer; and,

WHEREAS, she has had songsfeatured television shows, movies, and documentaries including 90210 and HBO's Hung; and,

WHEREAS, in 2018 she worked with the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA to compose and contribute musicfor the TC Cannon exhibit "At the Edge ofAmerica"; and,

Resolution commending Jody Millerfor her contribution to music

WHEREAS, an unprecedented gathering ofOldahoma women involved in music willcome together on November 27, 2018, for the induction of ten of their number into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, and as part of a celebration of the Grand Ladies of Oklahoma in Music; and,

WHEREAS, Jody Miller of Blanchard will be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, Jody Miller was one of the most popular singers of the 1960s and 1970's, making the Billboard charts a stunning 31 times and appearing on all the major TV variety shows of the day; and,

WHEREAS, in 1966Jody became thefirst Oklahoman to win a Grammy and only the secondfemale to do. She would be nominatedfor two other Grammys in the years to come; and,

WHEREAS, Jody has subsequently reinvented herself to conquer both country and gospel music as well; and,

WHEREAS, Jody has served as an honorary spokespersonfor the SHINE Foundation championing the efforts ofcriminal justice reform and civic engagement among students; and,

WHEREAS, for Jody's distinguished global career in spiritual ministries with music and testimony, Jody Miller was inducted into the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1998; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to music, Jody Miller will become a member of the 2018 Class of the Oklahoma Music Hall ofFame; and,

WHEREAS, an unprecedented gathering of Oklahoma women involved in music will come together on November 27, 2018, for the induction often of their number into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, and as part ofa celebration of the Grand Ladies of Oklahoma in Music; and,

WHEREAS, Gayla Peevey ofOklahoma City will be among the honorees on that special day; and,

WHEREAS, Gayla Peevey is the youngestfemale Oklahoman to chart a hit record on the Billboard charts"; and,

WHEREAS, Gayla recorded the now iconic Christmas classic, '7 Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" in 1953 at the mere age of 10. The song remains infrequent airplay each Christmasseason and routinely charts every year on the Billboard and iTunes Holiday Charts making it one of the most played holiday songs of all time; and

WHEREAS, in addition to being a singer, Gayla has penned several songs that were issued as singles, including MyLittle Marine, Just Say So, and DearJane; and,

WHEREAS, Gaylahas retained close relations with the Oklahoma City Zoo which used her hit to help buy an actual hippo that lived at the zoofor 45 years; and,

WHEREAS, for her contributions to musicand on the occasion of the 55'"anniversaryof the historic recording of I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas", Gayla Peeveywill become a member of the 2018 Class of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame; and,
