Appendix 7 131st Session of the Synod of the Diocese of Fredericton Notice The One Hundred and thirty-first Session of the Diocesan Synod of Fredericton will convene on Friday, 28 October 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fredericton Inn, Fredericton. Membership The Credentials Committee advises that it is important for those who intend to exercise membership of the Synod confirm that their name appears on either the list of licensed clergy or elected lay delegates. PLEASE REFER TO SECTION B. Those who feel the lists are in error need to take steps, prior to registration, to clarify their status. Clergy not listed should contact the Bishop’s Secretary prior to registration or lay delegates not listed should assure the completion of the form of Certification of a Synod Delegate; either prior to attempting to register at Synod. Convening Circular If lay delegates are unable to attend the session of synod, this circular must be passed to the substitute from the same parish attending in their place. Please become as familiar as possible with the contents of the circular and bring it to the meeting of Synod. Additional copies will not be available. Section A - 1 of 15 131st Session of the Synod of the Diocese of Fredericton Prayer for Synod For a Synod lmighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those Awho take counsel in this Synod for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach us in all things to seek first your honour and glory. Guide us to perceive what is right, and grant us both the courage to pursue it and grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. For the mission of the Church raw your Church together, O Lord, into one great company of disciples, together following Dour Lord Jesus Christ into every walk of life, together serving him in his mission to the world, and together witnessing to his love on every continent and island. We ask this in his name and for his sake. For the ministry of the Church lmighty God, the giver of all good gifts, in your divine providence you have appointed Avarious orders in your Church. Give your grace, we humbly pray, to all who are (now) called to any office and ministry for your people; and so fill them with the truth of your doctrine and clothe them with holiness of life, that they may faithfully serve before you, to the glory of your great name and for the benefit of your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Section A - 2 of 15 131st Session of the Synod of the Diocese of Fredericton REGISTRATION INFORMATION No application for registration in advance is required for the 131st Session of Diocesan Synod. Parish submission of delegate information by way of parish returns makes that application on behalf of delegates. The Credentials Committee asks that you register as soon as possible upon arrival as a quorum will be required to convene the Session. In accordance with Canon Two, clergy and lay delegates are to register upon their arrival at Synod. Registration will take place at the Fredericton Inn beginning at 11:00 a.m. Please be sure your name appears in Section B - Membership of this circular prior to arriving at Synod.     Clapman Smith son of Daniel Smith Sr. UEL (by John Noble UE) Daniel Smith Sr. was a farmer/publican from New Milford, Connecticut who served as a guide during the American Revolution for General Tyrone. He married Ruth Fitch in New Canaan, Connecticut 22 May 1760. The marriage and date are recorded in "Early Connecticut Marriages: Fourth Book -Stamford-New Canaan New Haven Second Church” page 23. (Copy attached). The marriage record indicates that Daniel was originally from Norwalk. Daniel’s parents were Nehemiah Smith and Elizabeth Clapham from Norwalk. Daniel’s wife, Ruth Fitch, was the daughter of Theophilus Fitch and Lydia Kellogg and was born in Norwalk on 1 April 1739 (copy from Kellogg genealogy and genealogical record of Norwalk attached as well as an article from the American Genealogist, Vol . 2, Issue 3, 1949 on Daniel Smith’s ancestors by Donald Lines Jacobus and an article from the Spring 2009 issue of Generations entitled “Daniel Smith’s Ancestors and Children” by George H. Hayward). Daniel Smith and Ruth Fitch had several sons and daughters in Connecticut, including Clapman born in 1762, but the only one for whom there is any record is Lydia who was baptized in New Preston (near New Milford) in 1766. At least one genealogist has suggested that the missing records are due to mice eating the Norwalk records.1 Daniel Smith Sr. arrived in Saint John with the 1783 Spring Fleet on May 11, 1783 on board the Union. Two of his sons, Daniel Jr. and Clapman Smith arrived in Saint John on board the “Two Sisters” in September 1783 (date established from Clapman’s 1785 petition for land saying he had been in the province for 18 months.
