Black & White Evening & 2 powered wheelchairs

Members enjoyed another super Black & White Weather in (with a hint of Red) Evening at the clubhouse on Chester - England Saturday. 16°C This is the event organised by the Powered Wheelchair Appeal where everyone wears black Rain Storms and white but with a hint of red somewhere in Humidity is 93% their outfit. Wind is West-northwest 5 m/s It was also where Noah Cunningham and Tayler Visibility is 16 km Farr were presented with their very own Pressure is 0 mbar powered wheelchairs.

Noah and his family come from Southport and Tayler is the daughter of one of our newer members Dave Farr from Great Sutton.

Thanks again go to all concerned for their efforts in making this an enjoyable and very worthwhile event.

The 4th photo below shows Captain Martin Mann presenting a framed photograph on behalf of the Powered Wheelchair Appeal to St Luke’s head teacher Maureen Coleman as a thank you for the money they raised towards the 4-Countries-in-1- day event. When asked if they would like to get involved again, all the children screamed out ‘Yes!’

Helsbly Golf Club member and past captain Peter Hancock has won a Weather in major national award and our many congratulations go out to him on Chester - England this magnificent achievement. 16°C Here is the press article announcing Peter’s win:

“Helsby Golf Club past captain – winner of the National Sky Sports Rain Storms Cricket Coach Awards Humidity is 93% Wind is West-northwest 5 m/s A former captain of Helsby Golf Club, Peter Hancock has recently been Visibility is 16 km announced as the national winner of the 2010 Sky Sports Coach Awards Pressure is 0 mbar for ‘Outstanding Contribution and Services to Cricket Coaching’.

The Awards were launched at the beginning of 2007 as a way of acknowledging those who have made a significant contribution to the support and development of coaches and coaching in cricket in a variety of ways, which in turn, has left a legacy for either their home club or county.

Peter was chosen for the award because he has been fundamental in the development of the Cheshire branch of the ECB Coaches association. He has been a leading figure in Cheshire cricket for 25 years and is currently involved in Coach Education as an assessor and tutor, having previously been coach to County age group teams and the Emerging Players.

Peter said “it was a great honour to be the Cheshire and North West nomination and to then go on and win this prestigious national trophy is a tremendous honour.”

On Thursday 29th September, prior to the start Weather in of the 2010 Ryder Cup, Captain Martin Mann Chester - England and Lady Captain Sheila Fenwick had the pleasure of being at the Celtic Manor resort in 16°C Wales when, on behalf of the club, the “Voice of Golf” Peter Alliss presented a powered Rain Storms wheelchair to Jake Hudson from Bolton. This is the 278th wheelchair that Helsby Golf Club have provided and will certainly make a difference to the life of Jake who plays for the wheelchair football team Bolton Bullets. It also represents a continuing relationship with the Peter Alliss crusade to provide powered wheelchairs which significantly improve the quality of life of youngsters such as Jake. Many thanks to all our members who continue to support this great cause.

Ladies support Macmillan Biggest Coffee Morning

On Friday 24 September, Helsby Golf Club Lady Captain Weather in Sheila Fenwick welcomed members and visitors to the Chester - England clubhouse to take part in the annual Macmillan cancer support “World’s biggest coffee morning”. 16°C

Organised by the lady members, the morning was a great Rain Storms success – it was well attended and everyone enjoyed the Humidity is 93% refreshments, raffle and home produce/crafts stall. Helsby’s Kevin Francis wins EGU Gold Medal

Kevin Francis this weekend won the EGU Gold Medal at the Weather in National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa. Chester - England

He had previously won the Cheshire Handicap Trophy at Sutton Hall 16°C which qualified him to play in the final of this national event sponsored by the brewers, London Pride. Kevin was supported by another great Helsby member, Denver Brazier, who not only carried Kevin’s bag but gave him tremendous support throughout the competition.

Powered wheelchair to Harry Graham at MEGA Day

The recent 2010 MEGA (Merseyside Weather in Entertainers Golf Association) Charity Day was Chester - England another great success for Helsby Golf Club organised on behalf of the Club by the Powered 16°C Wheelchair Committee. The weather was superb, golf enjoyable and the evening Rain Storms entertainment excellent. 1st Eric & Lynn Malkin, Ben Simpson & Mega Player Larry White – 78 points

2nd Frank O’Neil, Keith O’Neil, Colin Adshead & Mega Player John Kenny – 77 points

3rd Phil Gertrey, Ian Norman, Graeme Vaughan & Mega Player Colin Holt – 76 points Following the competition during the day, a Trouble Climbing Stairs? powered wheelchair was presented to 9 year old Harry Graham from Widnes. Harry was accompanied on the night by his mum Jane, House with a Low Cost dad Steve, brother Alfie and sister Maisie. He attends Chesnut Lodge school in Widnes and Stair Lift. also at the presentation was Harry’s PE teacher Mark Eccleston. Mark won a silver medal for Tennis at the Athens Paralympics in 2004 and now devotes his time to inspiring disabled youngsters such as Harry to participate in sport.

The Helsby Golf Club appeal has now donated 277 powered wheelchairs and is among the biggest and most successful appeals of its kind in the country. Each wheelchair represents a life transformed, as Harry and his family will testify.

Congratulations …golf 4 countries 1 day for charity

CONGRATULATIONS … 4 COUNTRIES IN 1 DAY … 21st Weather in JUNE 2010! Chester - England

Congratulations to Captain Martin Mann and Ladies’ Captain 16°C Sheila Fenwick on completing a round of golf in each of 4 countries in 1 day and all in aid of charity … truly a marvellous Rain Storms achievement. Humidity is 93% All proceeds from their magnificent efforts and the generosity of Wind is West-northwest 5 m/s their sponsors go to Helsby Golf Club Powered Wheelchair Visibility is 16 km Appeal … expected to be between £7,500 and £8,000. (Late Pressure is 0 mbar news: The total eventually reached £10,001!!) Our thanks also go to the other golf clubs involved for their superb generosity in hosting and supporting the events at their clubs.

Martin and Sheila, ably supported by Kath Wilkinson and James Mann, began the day at 3.25am at Cairndhu Golf Club in Northern Ireland, finishing at 6.00am and after the ferry crossing began their next round at 10.05am at Wigtownshire County Golf Club in Scotland, finishing at 12.00pm.

They then set off south to Padeswood & Buckley Golf Club in North Wales, arriving at 4.20pm to play their third round before finally arriving at their home club Helsby Golf Club in England at 7.30pm to complete their final round at 9.45pm.

While they were toiling around the 4 countries, members of Helsby Golf Club had organised further fundraising events in the form of a 9-hole Fancy Dress Competition and BBQ. golfmadesimple.com/Golf/Lessons

On the captains’ 72nd hole, they were greeted by the sight of scores of members and guests – many in fancy dress- cheering them on as they came in to a champagne reception (see slideshow below).

Celebrations continued late into the evening before Martin, Sheila, Kath and James retired to their beds for a well earned rest.

Very well done to them and a big thanks to everyone for their support and generosity in aid of this worthy charity.

28th Powered Wheelchair Classic

The 28th Wheelchair Classic event was held at Weather in Helsby Golf Club on Thursday 10th June. Chester - England

Following an excellent day’s golf where the 16°C weather was once again very kind, the evening’s proceedings began with presentations of their Rain Storms very own new powered wheelchairs to 4 Humidity is 93% children from the North West. Unfortunately 13 year old Daniel Dobbs from Prenton was poorly and couldn’t attend so Eric Malkin – a great friend of Helsby Golf Club PWA from Five Towns Care Centre – was taking his new powered wheelchair directly to Daniel’s home.

There then followed presentations to the winners of the golf competition.

Winners of the Men’s competition were Denver Brazier & John Burgess and runners up were Brian Kennerley & Shaun Potter. Trouble Climbing Stairs? Winners of the Ladies’ competition were Theresa Mann & Cathy Roaf and runners up were Viv Nagle & Val Fletcher. House with a Low Cost Stair Lift. A special presentation was made by Hamish MacLeod, Chairman of the national Peter Alliss Masters Golfing Society, to stair-lift-comparison.co.uk Bert Dyson MBE for his outstanding contribution to the Appeal since it began.

More than £16,000 was raised from the 28th Wheelchair Classic all of which goes into the Powered Wheelchair Appeal. Our thanks go out to everyone involved for their hard work and generous contributions.

Helsby Golf Club welcomed its new members at an Induction Weather in Evening on 8th April. Chester - England

Since the beginning of the year we have had a record 26 new 16°C members join the club, a mixture of existing and new golfers and a New Members Induction evening was held on a glorious Spring Rain Storms evening. Humidity is 93% Captain, Lady Captain, Captain elect and committee members Wind is West-northwest 5 m/s welcomed the new members on the putting green and then there Visibility is 16 km was a 9 hole competition followed by refreshments in the Pressure is 0 mbar clubhouse. New member Bill Smith was on the winning team and was presented with his first prize at the club!

The opportunity to play the course and meet existing members was much appreciated by the new members and several commented that the friendly reputation of the club and the great course attracted them to Helsby.

Another super evening was enjoyed by members and their guests at the Weather in Chinese Banquet organised by HGC PWA, which took place at the Delamere Chester - England Fortune Palace on Sunday evening. 16°C Guest of honour for the evening was Jeniffer Appleton who was presented with a customised powered wheelchair that will make a huge difference to Jeniffer and her Rain Storms family. This was the 271st powered wheelchair presented by Helsby Golf Club Humidity is 93% Powered Wheelchair Appeal since its inception. Wind is West-northwest 5 m/s Jeniffer came along with her Mum and Dad – Diane and Mark – and she attends Visibility is 16 km Petty Pool College in Sandiway where she is studying amongst other things Pressure is 0 mbar catering. PWA presenter Alan Lee managed to persuade Jeniffer to make a cake which will be auctioned at the 2010 Wheelchair Classic to raise funds for the appeal.
