LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION Urging Major League Baseball Commissioner Allen H LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION urging Major League Baseball Commissioner Allen H. (Bud) Selig to overturn the openly admitted error of the official umpire ruling of "safe" at first base for the Batter Jason Donald in the 9th inning of the Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Indians game on the night of June 2, 2010 and thus awarding Detroit Tigers pitcher, Armando Galar- raga, a "perfect" game to his pitching record WHEREAS, The first base umpire, Jim Joyce, who has been an umpire for over 23 years in Major League Baseball has openly admitted fault to his incorrect ruling of "safe" for the Cleveland Indians batter Jason Donald; and WHEREAS, The expanded use of technology has permitted review of calls on plays in many sporting events which, in this case, has shown blatant evidence of a missed call play; and WHEREAS, Detroit Tiger's pitcher, Armando Galarraga, has continued to show humility and graciousness since the Major League Baseball officials blatant disregard to acknowledge this historic and personal record of achievement; and WHEREAS, The importance the game of baseball plays to the State of New York and throughout the Nation is to provide inspiration of hard work, discipline, and team work to successive generations of Americans of which a blatant error like this, if allowed to stand would sully the reputation of baseball; and WHEREAS, There has only been 20 pitchers in the history of Major Leag- ue Baseball who have ever achieved the historical record of "perfect" game, including Cy Young, Sandy Koufax, and David Cone; and WHEREAS, The definition of a "perfect" game is when a pitcher or pitchers retire each consecutive batter during the course of a nine inning game which is the total of 27 batters, which Armando Galarraga achieved if not for the missed call play by the umpire at first base; and WHEREAS, The reversal of this ruling would not affect the standing records of other players on the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers as the batter, Jason Donald, was the last out in the batting line up for the Cleveland Indians; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to urge Major League Baseball Commissioner Allen H. (Bud) Selig to over- turn the openly admitted error of the official umpire ruling of "safe" at first base for the Batter Jason Donald in the 9th inning of the Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Indians game on the night of June 2, 2010 and thus awarding Detroit Tigers pitcher, Armando Galarraga, a "perfect" game to his pitching record; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran- smitted to Major League Baseball Commissioner Allen H. (Bud) Selig..

The Detroit Tigers were playing the night; it may be that this morning he is pretty upset. But Cleveland Indians. Armando Galarraga was on the in the heat of it, he kept his composure and placed limits mound for Detroit, and for the third time this year the on himself. And then, he went back, kept his focus, and most remarkable singular feat in baseball was about to did his job because a lot of teammates and fans were happen: a perfect game. Galarraga had retired twenty- looking for the win. He won’t go down in the record six straight batters…not a walk, not a wild pitch, not a books as a perfect pitcher, but he proved himself and passed ball, not an error by the other eight players with exceptional human being. MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 BLACKMON WORKING TOWARD HISTORIC SEASON On Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies All-Star outfi elder Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and his 24th home run of the season. With the round-tripper, Blackmon recorded his 57th extra-base hit on the season, which include 20 doubles, 13 triples and his aforementioned 24 home runs. Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. If the season were to end today, Blackmon’s extra-base hit line (20-13-24) has only been replicated by 34 diff erent players in MLB history with Rollins’ 2007 season being the most recent. It is the fi rst stat line of its kind in Rockies franchise history. Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig is the only player in history to post such a line in four seasons (1927-28, 30-31).

LINE DRIVES THE NATIONAL COLLEGIATE BASEBALL WRITERS NEWSLETTER (Volume 47, No. 5, October 16, 2008) The President’s Message By NCBWA President Joe Dier Membership: Fall baseball is in the air, and that means that the pre-2009 NCBWA All-America team cannot be too far behind; please stay tuned for emails from the NCBWA about the nomination process and email them to the appropriate regional representatives. On another pleasant note, I am honored to become the 47th president of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Let me give a major set of kudos to 2007-08 president Shamus McKnight of Nebraska for his tremendous leadership and work. Shamus has been a solid part of the presence of NCBWA in Omaha at the NCAA World Series for several years and represents the organization in a wide variety of positive ways. It has been a pleasure to serve under him in the NCBWA officers’ rotation. This group has meant so much to the national awareness and promotion of college baseball through the Dick Howser Trophy, the Stopper of the Year Award, the Pro-Line Athletic All-America and Freshman All- America teams, Pro-Line Athletic Players of the Week, and all the all-region and all-district squads. We know we have the fairest means of selecting our honors’ teams of any group nationally, and this lends great credibility to our organization. Please feel free to contact me or any one of the 2008-09 officers (see contact numbers and emails later in this newsletter) as we approach a very critical year in the history of college baseball.
