IT WASN’T A total shock when McMurry announced last week that it was going back to NCAA Division III and ending its bid for membership in NCAA Division II. There had been rumors for several weeks that there might be problems with the school continuing on its path to membership in Division II and in the Lone Star Conference for football and track and field. The announcement leaves some questions unanswered. The Javelinas have the War Hawks on their football schedule next fall and McMurry is scheduled to take part in the Lone Star Conference football race. With the War Hawks, the LSC would have eight members and this would make the brackets for the postseason conference playoffs easy to draw. This late in the game, you would think McMurry will fulfill its football contracts for next fall. The War Hawks are expected to compete in the LSC indoor and outdoor track and field championships this spring, as scheduled.
