Greenstar has 14 facilities around the US. The Treasurer – Mey Sen, [email protected] one in Pittsburgh produces 10 000 tons of material for Secretary - Frank Pietryga, [email protected] recycling every month. It was impressive to see how the Immediate Past Chair – Robert Brooks, [email protected] vision and control systems identified and sorted the Awards Chair - Ralph Sprang, [email protected] various recyclable plastics, metals, paper, and Webmaster – Gerry Kumnik, [email protected] cardboard from a single, rapidly moving stream of UpperMon Subsection material. Here is a YouTube video: Chair: Dr. David Graham [email protected] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLTuka7qoKU .(304) 293-9692 Let’s pass along some useful pieces of information that Chapters may help you recycle more effectively. Greenstar Communications Society – Co-Chairs: Phil Cox asked us not to put the plastic ‘supermarket bags’ in the [email protected] (724) 443-0566 and Dr. Ajay Ogirala [email protected] household recycling container. These bags get tangled Computer Society – Chair: Ralph Sprang, [email protected] in the wheels of the sorting chambers and have to be Components, Packaging, and Manufacturing cleaned out at the end of each shift. Plus they are not Technology/Electron Devices Societies – Russell Dudek, [email protected]; Treas.: Dr. Louis Hart recycled after that, they just go into the regular trash. Engineering In Medicine & Biology Society To recycle such bags, take them back to the store and Chair: Dr. Wei Wang, [email protected] put them in the bag recycling containers. The clean Electromagnetic Compatibility Society Chair: Michael J. Oliver bags that go there will certainly be recycled. Steel is [email protected] (814) 763-3211 always recyclable, including the tops of cans and ‘jelly Power & Energy & Industry Applications Societies Chair: Dave Vaglia, [email protected]; Past: Mey Sen, jar’ lids. These present no problem to the recycler. [email protected] 412-373-0117 Magnetics Society – Chair: Dr. Jimmy Zhu, [email protected] Aluminum beverage cans are prized recyclables, Nanotechnology Society - Chair: Dr. MinheeYun however, the companies who recycle them can only [email protected] tolerate the admixture with them of ~5% ‘pet food’ Robotics Society – Chair: Dr. Guy Nicoletti [email protected] (724) 836-9922 aluminum containers or aluminum foil. I’m not sure Signal Processing Society – Chair: Dr. Ramana Kumar what this information means to us. I plan on continuing Vinjamuri;,[email protected] to put my pet food-style aluminum into recycling and Society on Social Implications of Technology Chair: Joe Kalasky, P.E., [email protected] 724-244-1609 hope the material will be reused gracefully. Affinity Groups There is good news regarding our Women in GOLD – Chair: Mike Hollis, [email protected] Engineering affinity group. Dr. Gabriela Hug will be Life Member – Chair: Bob Grimes, P.E. taking over the chair of WIE in August. More good [email protected] (412) 963-9711 news is that our chapter of the Engineering in Medicine Women In Engineering – Chair: Open and Biology Society has a new chair, Dr. Wei Wang. Committees Plus our former Engineering in Medicine and Biology Consultants Network chair, Bob Brooks, has joined the PACE committee and Professional/Career Activities (PACE) Chair: Joe Cioletti, P.E. [email protected] will be assisting the chair, Joe Cioletti, in planning and Student Activities – Rajiv Garg, [email protected] conducting more of the kind of great events PACE has Membership Development – Dr. Karl Muller P.E., been putting on. Organizers: Power & Energy Society/Industrial Applications Society Abstract: A combination of rising energy prices and cost-reducing product innovations are making solar power a permanent part of our nation’s energy supply landscape. A brief discussion of recent solar energy history will set the stage for a closer look at the cost efficacy of solar power. The talk will highlight some of the cost saving features, such as built-in mirco-inverters and frame integrated racking that come standard with Westinghouse AC solar modules. Speaker: Mark Barlow is currently a consulting engineer working in the field of Solar Photovoltaics (PV). In 2011 he started his own company DC to Power to assist clients with the design of solar power systems and equipment purchases. Cumulatively, Mark has designed over 30 MW of Solar PV Power Plants during his 3 years within the solar industry. Additionally, he has 5 years of work experience within electronics device manufacturing, reliability, and academic research. Mark holds an MSE in Electrical Engineering and a BSEET in Electronics Engineering. He is also a high voltage electronics enthusiast and a member of Engineers Without Borders, volunteering his time to assist with development projects in Ecuador and India. DIRECTIONS
