Puccini Among Friends by Larry Verdugo, LA Opera educator Wednesday, May 12 1:30 – 3:00 PM

Giacomo Puccini, for many the greatest composer of Italian opera, was loved for his melodic richness but perhaps most of all for his sentimental vulnerable soul. He lived in what could be called Puccini country, the Tuscan region of Italy and the village of Torre del Lago, his lifelong home where friends and family gathered and told stories. Of course, this talk is laced with excerpts from his operas, some famous, some less known but all memorable.

Chemical Dependency… and You led by Tom Marks Wednesday, May 19 1:30 – 3:00 PM

Come and hear Tom tell his life stories. He’ll describe four people with one thing in common: They, like all alcoholics, are what we call intelligent. WHY?, you may reasonably ask, would intelligent people behave this way? That question has been asked as far back as written history goes. These days, we also ask a question that is vital to this discussion: “What were they thinking?” Tom’s experience as a volunteer led to his determination to share his knowledge with a happy ending.
