RANKIN at quarterback, the Hawks hit the air for 225 yards and two TDs in the Greg Mescall, play-by-play season-opening loss to Lafayette. Led by WILLIAM DESHAZO (22.5) and WILLIAM SHERMAN (38.6), the Bears kickoff return team ranks 12th in the NCAA with a 26.5 yards per return average. On defense, linebackers ALBERT GAMBLE, DONRICO LEWIS and CARLOS WATTS are like mad dogs in a meat market racking up 25, 23 and 23 tackles, respectively. THE HAWKS IN THE NEC Monmouth is 21-15 all-time in Northeast Conference play on the way to two league crowns during the six years the NEC has sponsored football. The Hawks The Records Watch set a program record with their five NEC wins in 2001. Prior to last year, Monmouth posted four league wins on two different occasions, 2000 (4-4) and MU CAREER LEADERS 1998 (4-1).
