LADY BEARCATS SET SCHOOL RECORDS Last Wednesday during the High School Athletic Association’s NE Regional basketball tournament the Lady Bearcats established two new school records for their sport with their 28th season win after defeating Athens High School 71‐36. Friday afternoon’s overtime loss 53‐56 to the Brewer Patriots marked the first time the Lady Bearcats have advanced to a regional championship game. BEARCATS PLAYED INSPIRED GAME VERSUS LEE HIGH In the final game of the season the Bearcats played an inspired game against 2nd ranked Lee High School as they finished a turnaround season as the 5A Area 13 Champions at 20‐10 with a trip to the Regional Tournament. After carrying a lead into half‐time, the Bearcats were not able to overcome a series of turn‐overs in the third quarter to close out the season with a 50‐60 loss to the eventual Regional champions. Jordan Vass was named to the All‐Region Tournament team. CHS THEATRE PRESENTS ORIGINAL FEATURE FILM The CHS Theatre Department hosted a red carpet premier of their original production Joan: Maiden, Martyr, Warrior, Witch Friday evening at the CHS Auditorium. The film provided a host of students with authentic film experiences during the filming, editing and showing of this 70 minute film. The film told the story of Joan of Arc in four different life stages. Shown at right are the four lead actresses (l‐r) with theater instruction Dillon Lee (center) Lacy Trelles, Sadie Freeman, Julia Neal, and Erica Harris. GERMAN CLUB RESULTS STATE COMPETITION The following students won awards at the ’s German Competition on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Level I winners were 1st Individual Song, Payton Palmer; 2nd skits, Payton Palmer, Emily Brown, Ben Huser, Nic Fillinger, Isaac Willingham, Gregory Flynt, and Caden Trelles; 3rd Poster Collage, Molly McLeroy and Audrey Strickland; 3rd Children’s Book, Savannah Franklin & Jordan Johnson. Winning in Level II were 3rd Poster Collage, Kaci Waters; 2nd Group Song, Ali Nunnelley and Kaci Waters. Level 3 and 4 winners were 1st Spelling Bee, Stats Hogeland; 2nd Extemporaneous Speaking, Stats Hogeland; 2nd Most Humorous PowerPoint Presentation, Mark Gomez and Stats Hogeland. Bearcat Spring Sports News • Softball VG defeated Southside 5‐3 • Softball JV defeated Hazel Green 5‐2 • Baseball VB defeated Alexandria 16‐10 • Baseball VB defeated Spain Park 5‐3 • Soccer JVB defeated Arab 5‐0 Band Students Named to Honor Band Seven CHS band students have been selected to participate in the University of Montevallo Honor Band Eli Hart, Jordan Johnson, Ty Ledford, Tori Nelson, Rachel Nix, Matthew Owens, and Thad Walker. These students will perform at the University of Montevallo on March 2-4, 2012.

Thompson-International Performance of the Year Winner DURHAM, N.C. ‐‐ USA Baseball announced the winning pitcher from its gold medal game, Keegan Thompson, as the International Performance of the Year Award winner. Keegan Thompson authored one of the greatest performances in USA Baseball history in helping the 16U National Team take home a gold medal for the sixth time in a row last summer. On the mound, he earned the win for Team USA, throwing a complete game, nine‐inning shutout, allowing only four hits, and striking out 12. Thompson not only starred on the mound for the U.S., but he led the team at the plate as well, going 4‐for‐5 with two RBIs and a run scored. The International Performance of the Year Award was founded in 2010.
