Historically, throughout jazz history, Barcelona has been one of its main centers in Europe, and so it still is in our days. It can proudly be said that Catalonia currently boasts one of the most lively jazz scenes in the world and Catalan musicians, while knowledgeable of the genres roots and evolution, possess a healthy creative drive and shun the beaten path to display a trademark originality of their own.

The creativity and quality of these musicians is further boosted by the vibrant activity of jazz clubs and promoters, and by the steady upsurge of specialist record labels. The consolidation of jazz cycles, festivals and programmes in almost every corner of the country also mirrors the wealth and personality of the Catalan jazzmen, musicians and composers.

This booklet, Jazz from Catalonia, aims to reflect on the quality and dynamism of professionals and companies devoted to jazz in our country. It lists almost 120 record labels, promoters and managers, associations, festivals and venues specializing in this genre. However, the directory is not an all-encompassing list; instead, it only includes those companies with the administrative and creative capacity to work internationally.

In short, Jazz from Catalonia aims to provide you with a really useful tool.
