  • Wake Forest Moves on from Manning
C6 SUNDAY, APRIL 26, 2020 ••• RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH SPORTS BRIEFS COLLEGE BASKETBALL Wake Forest moves on from Manning RALEIGH, N.C. — Danny Manning never built a winner at Wake Forest. Now the school is looking for a new coach and direction. Wake Forest fired Manning on Saturday after losing seasons in five of his six years with one NCAA tour- nament appearance. The move came more than six weeks after the Demon Deacons lost to Pittsburgh in the opening game of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, ending the season shortly before the coronavirus pandemic led to a shutdown of college and professional sports. The decision came after what athletic director John Currie called an “overall evaluation” of a program with two winning seasons in the past decade going back to the days of Jeff Bzdelik. Manning, a former No. 1 overall NBA draft pick, went 78-111 in Winston-Salem with a 30-80 mark in ACC regular-season games. Those league struggles included a 6-49 mark in league road games and 1-6 in the ACC tournament. NBA Players allowed to return to team facilities ANDREW SHURTLEFF/THE DAILY PROGRESS MIAMI — NBA players will be allowed to return to Virginia forward Jay Huff threw down a reverse alley-oop from Kihei Clark in a 60-42 victory over Columbia in team training facilities starting Friday, provided that Charlottesvile. Factory trained service technicians and certified network engineers will be available to provide dedicated around the clock customer service. Environmental sustainability is important to Barclays Center, the Brooklyn Nets and TGI Office Automation. As part of their commitment to the environment, TGI will hold an event during a Brooklyn Nets game to collect empty printer cartridges which will then be recycled in order to keep them out of landfills. “We were thrilled when the opportunity to partner with Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets presented itself,” said TGI CEO Frank Grasso. “This partnership gives us the opportunity to connect with the people of Brooklyn in ways we wouldn’t otherwise be able to and provides us with an international stage to showcase what Brooklyn businesses are really all about.” In addition to the recycling program, TGI will provide other ecological solutions, including dramatically reducing paper use, introducing energy star-compliant equipment, and installing software tools to achieve and measure carbon footprint. “Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets are proud to align with TGI Office Automation, a Brooklyn-based business,” said Barclays Center and Brooklyn Nets CEO Brett Yormark.

  • BASKETBALL Head Coach James Johnson 2013-14 VIRGINIA TECH BASKETBALL
2013-14 VIRGINIA TECH BASKETBALL Head Coach James Johnson 2013-14 VIRGINIA TECH BASKETBALL A MESSAGE TO TECH SUPPORTERS This is a very exciting time for the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team. We look forward to a season that will bring in new faces and new challenges. It should be a season of excitement and of improvement. The thing I have noticed about this group through the summer and the preseason is their willingness to work. I stated often last season that I never had to coach effort and this season, that same spirit has been evident since day one. This group of players shows up ready to do their best, regardless of whether it’s on the court, in the weight room or in the classroom. They are always ready to take a step forward. During the last year, we have made very substantial strides in shaping this program into a group that makes this University proud. We have become more involved in campus and community projects and have comported ourselves in a manner expected of Virginia Tech students and student-athletes. We strive to make this team YOUR team. It has meant so much to the team and me that you stop us on the street, in restaurants and out in public and greet us all so warmly. I believe this partnership has gotten off to a wonderful start and will only grow stronger. The season will begin on Nov. 9 and we will need each and every one of you in Cassell Coliseum, supporting this team.
