SET TO PREMIERE ON SPIKE TV Hit Canadian Sketch Comedy Series Debuts Monday, April 18 New York, NY, April 5, 2005 ˆ The hit Canadian sketch comedy series Comedy Inc. crosses the border to entertain American audiences this April, with the series set to premiere on Spike TV. Effective immediately, VMN will consist of four brand groups: Comedy Central, Paramount Network and TV Land MTV, VH1, CMT and Logo BET Networks Nickelodeon The new structure will streamline VMN’s operations, enhancing the ability of Viacom’s network teams to coordinate scheduling and programming, share production and other resources, and leverage important talent relationships. The Comedy Central, Paramount Network and TV Land group will be led by Kent Alterman, President, and Chris McCarthy will expand his current role of President of MTV, VH1 and Logo to now include CMT. Alterman and McCarthy will continue to report to CEO Bob Bakish. As It Looks Toward Rebrand, Paramount Network Turns to Premium Scripted Fare 03.30.2017 Viacom is preparing to turn niche male-focused network Spike into a general entertainment channel Paramount Network. The next step toward making that happen is finding high-quality scripted series to pair with its unscripted favorites - such as Lip Sync Battle, which Viacom renewed for season four on Thursday - as well as original sports and specials. "Our mission is to establish Paramount Network as a prime destination for premium storytelling," said Kevin Kay, president, Paramount Network, TV Land, and CMT in a statement. "From Alicia Silverstone as a trailblazing independent working mother in the 1970's to Michael Shannon as an FBI negotiator during the Branch Davidians dramatic standoff and siege, Paramount Network will be the home to compelling stories, unforgettable characters, and high quality production with a distinctive global appeal." The new network's new shows include American Woman, starring Silverstone and Mena Suvari; six-part limited series Waco, starring Shannon, John Leguizamo and Taylor Kitsch as David Koresh; a remake of the popular 1988 Winona Ryder-Christian Slater movie, Heathers; and two-hour documentary I Am Martin Luther King Jr. Both American Woman and Heathers came to Paramount Network from TV Land, reports Deadline, which Kay also oversees. Paramount Network also plans to reboot First Wives' Club, which had been in development but was eventually passed on by TV Land. Paramount Network plans to give that project another shot. Viacom to Regroup, Focus on Six Key Channels 02.08.2017 Ahead of its earnings report on Thursday, Viacom CEO Bob Bakish will tell shareholders that the company is narrowing its focus to six key channel brands - Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. MTV, Comedy Central, BET and Spike - according to the Wall Street Journal. Viacom's board already has approved the plan. One of those brands, Spike, will be rebranded to the Paramount Network, reported the Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday. Kevin Kay will remain the head of the network, with the rebrand expected to launch in early 2018. Meanwhile, some of Viacom's smaller cable networks, such as TV Land and CMT, will likely see their budgets decline as Viacom shifts its attention to assets it sees as more key. "We must do everything we can to keep [our brands] strong and distinct as audiences fragment and content options proliferate," Viacom CEO Bob Bakish told shareholders at the company's annual meeting on Monday, reported the WSJ. The move is the first major change since Bakish was named permanent CEO in December, and Viacom decided in December not to pursue a merger with CBS. National Amusements - which is controlled by Sumner Redstone and his daughter, Shari - owns 80% of both companies but they are operated and publicly traded separately.
