Annual Report Council’s Purpose

The South Florida Council is the local chapter (founded in 1911) of the and offers year‐ round programs created to develop character, citizenship, leadership, life skills, and fitness in youth. We proudly serve youth in the South Florida counties of Broward, Miami‐Dade, and Monroe.

Mission

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Oath and Law.

Membership

The programs of the South Florida Council impacted more than 45,000 youth and their families.

Programs

Cub Scouts: First‐ fifth grade boys. A family and neighborhood centered program with emphasis on social skills and family relationships.

Boy Scouts: Serves boys 11‐18 with high adventure, hiking, camping, canoeing, merit badge advancement and leadership opportunities.

Venturing: Young men and women ages 14‐20 and offering positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.

Exploring: Young men and women ages 14‐20. Vocational program that provides access to hands‐on career education experiences and activities.

Learning for Life: An inter‐curricular and in‐school program for boys and girls grades K‐12 that offers character education, ethical decision making, and living skills.

Volunteer Leaders

The Council Board of Directors elected each January gives leadership to more than 3,600 volunteer leaders.

2015 ‐ A Year in Review

◆ 45,524 young men and women were impacted by the programs of the South Florida Council in 2015.

5.3% growth in Cub Scouts 3.1% growth in Boy Scouts 2.6% growth in Packs and Boy Scout Troops 4.1% growth in Exploring 15.0% growth in our in‐school Character Education programs

◆ Our Outreach Initiatives gave more than 4,100 youth from at‐risk neighborhoods the opportunity to participate in our programs.

◆ More than 3,600 volunteer leaders taught youth to learn new skills, build their self‐esteem and reinforce the values found in the Scout Oath and Law.

◆ More than 154,119 community service hours were conducted, 43,389 through Eagle Scout projects alone, helping make our communities a better place.

◆ 210 young men attained the Eagle Scout Award ‐ ’s highest rank.

◆ 11,508 advancements were earned including 7,522 merit badges.

◆ 5,655 Scouts attended a summer camp last year.

◆ South Florida Council provides fun and exciting year around programs and activities for youth and families. Programs and attendance:
