Legislative Update Lesley Kandaras spoke to the TAAC committee. She works in the Government Affairs department of the Metropolitan Council. This is a shortened session. It started the first week in March and will adjourn on May 23. They are not in a budget year. They are in a bonding year. The Council has bonding requests that are in the governor’s budget. None of them are directly related to transportation. Governor Dayton released a supplemental budget proposal which does include his comprehensive transportation funding bill. He does support a metro area sales tax that would be dedicated to the capital and operation costs of expanding and maintaining our metro area transit system.

MnDOT’s Office of Transit continues to work on updating the Greater Minnesota Transit Investment Plan, the 20-year vision for transit in Greater Minnesota. As we think about the future, it’s critical for all of us to provide feedback on the Transit Investment Plan including information on what is needed in our communities. We can’t predict the future, but we can put some ballpark numbers around unmet needs for transit service in the immediate future.

In addition to documenting the scope of transit service and socioeconomic data, the consultant team conducted outreach to each transit provider to understand the scope of their services and gain general input on the study. In March and April of 2020 several video and tele-conferences were held with individuals responsible for service monitoring, planning, and allocation at each agency. The content of each meeting included the following topics: • Offering an overview of the Service Allocation Study and gathering initial feedback on work to date and potential successful outcomes. • Transit agencies provide a summary of their current services. • How are transit operating resources allocated today? o How does the agency currently approach service allocation decisions? o What policies currently exist to guide service expansion or reduction? o Are there separate performance guidelines or goals for different types of service? • Agency planning and service development priorities. As of this memo’s completion, interviews have been conducted with Metro Transit, Minnesota Valley Transit Authority, SouthWest Transit, the City of Plymouth, Maple Grove Transit, and Metropolitan Transportation Services. Prior to each stakeholder interview, the consultant team reviewed the transit services currently offered by each agency, as well as relevant survey results, internal procedures, and long-range planning documents provided for the purposes of this study.

    Central Corridor LRT Project Chapter 5 Economic Effects 5.0 ECONOMIC EFFECTS This chapter focuses on the potential economic effects of the Central Corridor Light Rail Transit project and its impact on the local economy. With implementation of the Preferred Alternative, direct, indirect, and induced economic benefits related to the construction and long-term expenditures for operations and maintenance (O&M) of the selected alternative will occur. These effects would be realized to varying degrees throughout the region in terms of increased economic output, earnings, and employment. This chapter also describes the potential effects on station area development and land use and policy decisions aimed at encouraging transit-oriented development (TOD). Section 5.1 provides an overview of the methodology and anticipated effects of the project on the local economy. This section summarizes the anticipated economic impacts from capital operations and maintenance expenditures. Section 5.2 provides an overview of the potential economic effects of the project on commercial and residential development located near transit stations and programs and policies that have been developed to encourage development. This section provides a description of the potential development effects related to the Preferred Alternative. Section 5.3 considers the development effects associated with the implementation of the Preferred Alternative. MN 55455 (612) 625-4090 Fax 625-0359 For Immediate Release Mar. 20, 1995 Eleven Golden Gophers Qualify For NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships University of Minnesota head coach Dennis Dale will take 11 swimmers and divers with him to this week's NCAA men's champi­ onships in Indianapolis. Heading the list is diver P.J. Bogart (Jr., Mesa, Ariz.), who earned Big Ten titles in three diving events a month ago. The junior won the national title on the 10-meter platform as a freshman in 1993. Other 1995 Big Ten champs who will be competing for the Gophers include Derek Williams (Jr., Lansdale, Pa.) and Paul Domer (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis.). Williams, who set a new Big Ten record in the 100 fly, has qualified for the national meet in that event as well as the 50 free and the 200 fly. Domer, the conference winner in the 200 breast, will compete in that event as well as the 100 breast at the national meet. Other top contenders for Minnesota include Bernie Zeruhn (Jr., Hamburg, Germany) in the 200 free and Manolis Lentaris (Fr., Rania, Crete, Greece) in the 500 free. In addition to the 11 individual qualifiers, all five Golden Gopher relay teams have qualified for the national championships. A year ago Minnesota finished seventh at the national meet when it was held at the U of M Aquatic Center. The Golden Gophers are currently ranked ninth in the country according to the most recent (3/9/95) national poll.
