Assisted Living For Autistic Adults (ALFAA) was founded in 2009 by a mother hounded by these worrying questions and sad state of facilities available in India.The primary objective of ALFAA was to create good quality living conditions and related facilities for adults with Autism in India.
Today there are several organizations in India that provide support and various services to people with autism. However, these organizations do not provide residential facilities exclusively for autistic adults.
ALFAA aims to fill this need by providing good quality short-term and long-term residential facilities, for the care and protection of people with autism spectrum disorder, when the parents get old and even in the event of death of the parent(s) or guardian.
ALFAA also provides counseling to people with autism spectrum disorder and their families; serves as the voice for autism and promotes awareness of autism in society.

Soumaya Ayyar and Madeleine Sears who have spent several years studying yoga for kids with special needs by fusing therapeutic facets such as music, dance, art into the practice to keep the children interested and engaged. The Prafull Oorja team works with children who have cerebral palsy, autism, arthritis, and other disabilities to bring about a great sense of inner peace, as well as a strong and healthy body.
A Bangalore-based organization, Prafull Oorja specializes in providing yoga and holistic practices to under-resourced populations, including special needs children and rural women and youth. Prafull Oorja has two main programs, uBloom Yoga for Special Needs and uRise Yoga for Empowerment. In addition, the organization also provides economic opportunities for some beneficiaries who have become skilled to teach or lead yoga sessions, or create hand-made yoga products. Its main objective is to impart basic computer skills to differently- abled children to enable them become data entry operators.
Keeping in mind their special needs, we have developed a training module to teach basic computer skills to our students. Initially the training is given for two hours of computer and non computer activities.
The training includes several activities, both non computer and computer.
Non-Computer activities:
Visual matching of the alphabets and words, Scrabble, English conversation, storytelling, enhance the students’ reading, comprehension and communication skills. Emphasis is also given to their overall development through yoga, music and games. Computer based activity:
Computer activities include familiarisation with computer parts, typing of words, sentences, paragraphs, and introduction to formatting tools. The students are then taught to work on MS-Word and Excel. The training period ranges from six months to one year depending on the ability of the individual student.
