The nomadic Bedouin has been weaving Sadu as utilitarian objects for centuries. Featuring bright, vivid colours that stood out against a pale desert landscape, the weaving took the shape of things that the Bedouins used daily such as tent dividers, camel bags, pillows, floor coverings etc. Woven by women, Sadu became a form of artistic expression of their reflection of the world as they saw it. Sadu was fortunate to find its saviour in Sheikha Altaf Salem Al Ali Al Sabah, an anthropologist by training who recognising the slow disappearance of Sadu decided to dedicate her life and work to its resurrection.

Adaptation funding urged Leaders cheer as US returns to Paris pact BERLIN, Jan 23, (AP): World leaders breathed an audible sigh of relief that the United States under President Joe Biden is rejoining the global effort to curb climate change, a cause that his predecessor had shunned over the past four years. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French Presi- dent Emmanuel Macron were among those welcoming Biden’s decision to rejoin the the Paris climate accord, re- versing a key Trump policy in the first hours of his presi- dency Wednesday. “Rejoining the Paris Agreement is hugely positive news,” tweeted Johnson, whose country is hosting this year’s UN cli- mate summit. Macron said that with Biden, “we will be stronger to face the challenges of our time. Stronger to build our future. Stronger to protect our planet.” The Paris accord, forged in the French capital in 2015, commits coun- tries to put forward plans for reducing their emissions of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, which is re- leased from burning fossil fuels. As president, Donald Trump ques- tioned the scientifi c warnings about man-made global warming, at times accusing other countries of using the Paris accord as a club to hurt Washing- ton. The US formally left the pact in Biden November. “The United States departure from it has defi nitely diminished our capacities to change things, concretely to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions,” said Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo. “Now we are dealing with an administration that is con- scious of what is at stake and that is very committed to use the voice of the United States, a voice that is very powerful on the international level,” she said. ‘Silver Dream’ underwhelms Chris Cornell shines on ‘album of covers’ By Mark Kennedy

hris Cornell, “No One Sings Like You Any- Cmore” (UMe) No disrespect to Sinead O’Connor, but there’s an- other version of “Nothing Compares 2 U” that might be even better than the one the Irish singer delivered. That would be the cover by Chris Cornell, which is ragged with heartbreak. It’s the highlight of “No One Sings Like You Any- more,” a batch of 10 covers that the leader of Sound- garden and Audioslave recorded in 2016, a year before his death. Included are tunes originally made famous by giants like Janis Joplin and John Lennon. Throughout his career, Cor- nell covered other artists and was covered himself, once by no less than Johnny Cash, who recorded Soundgarden’s “Rusty Cage.” Cornell seemed to relish tackling other art- ists’ music, including “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson and “Thank You” by Led Zeppelin. His live sets included songs by Black Sabbath, the Beatles and Dolly Parton. None of those Cornell made this latest collection, which focuses on more polished gems, overseen by producer Brendan O’Brien. Cynics might say this new album is just a money grab from those who watched Cornell’s cover of Guns N’ Roses’ “Patience” go to No. 1 on Billboard’s main- stream rock songs chart earlier this year. But there’s nothing here that Cornell touches which isn’t fasci- nating, excellent or lighters-in-the-air cool. Many are simply better than the originals. What he does with Ghostland Observatory’s “Sad In this April 18, 2007 file photo, Larry King speaks to guests at a party held by CNN, celebrating King’s fifty years of broadcasting in New York. Obituary His version of Joplin’s “Get It While You Can” is simply unrecognizable. Cornell knows he can’t out- wail the electric Joplin, with all her vulnerability and fear, so he goes in a different direction, transforming ‘Broadcasting giant for half-century’ what was a bluesy ballad into an arena rocker. Cornell turns soulful when he tackles Lorraine Ellison’s “Stay With Me Baby,” letting his voice soar by replacing the delicateness of the original with a powerful neediness. He keeps the vocal distortions in his version of Larry King dies at age of 87 Harry Nilsson’s “Jump Into the Fire,” but tightens the meandering arrangement and ups the bass.
