Teachtaireacht ón Uachtarán Seán Ó hÓráin, Uachtarán CLG
Is mór an phribhléid dom an deis seo a bheith agam an teachtaireacht seo a scríobh agus fáilte a chur roimh gach duine anseo go Caisleán an Bharraigh le haghaidh Chraobh na hÉireann de Scór na nÓg 2019.
It gives me great pleasure to pen these few words for the Scór na nÓg All Ireland Finals Seán Ó hÓráin, Uachtarán Chumann Lúthcleas Gael in this, the jubilee year of Scór.
The GAA is of course synonymous with our games. However, there is far more to the Association than just football and hurling, handball and rounders. This weekend we will get to see a huge celebration of Irish culture and we look forward to seeing some of the best young dancers, musicians, singers and storytellers in the country perform and compete for us at the All-Ireland finals of this great GAA competition – Scór na nÓg.
As we are all aware at this point Scór is celebrating 50 years this year. Since Derry Gowen, along with other great leaders, started this competition back in 1969 many many great volunteers have helped to make it the success it is today. I would like to congratulate and recognise all those who have been involved in one way or another in Scór since its foundation. I am sure these people will be in our thoughts over the weekend.
Getting back to this weekend, I look forward to a great day ahead here in Castlebar. I would like to wish all those who are taking part, along with their mentors, supporters and their families the very best of luck.
Tá súil agam go mbainfidh sibh uilig idir shult agus thaitneamh as an deireadh seachtaine agus as an gceiliúradh mór seo ar chultúr na hÉireann atá amach romhainn. Guím gach rath orthu siúd uilig a bheidh ag glacadh páirte ann. Beirigí bua!

Teachtaireacht ó Chathaoirleach Choiste Náisiúnta Scór
Is cúis mór áthais dom céad míle fáilte a chur romhaibh go léir go dtí mo chontae dhúchais féin agus muid bailithe i gCaisleán a’ Bharraigh le h-aghaidh Chomórtaisí Cheannais Uile-Éireann Scór na nÓg. Cuirim fáilte faoi leith faoi na hiomaitheoirí, a dtuistí agus a dteagascóirí. Gan dabht, tá éacht déanta acu go léir agus craobh Aodán Ó Braonáin an chúige buaite acu cheanna. Ni bheidh ach Cathaoirleach, Choiste Náisiúnta Scór buaiteoir amháin i ngach comórtas ach tá súil agam go mbanfaidh sibh go léir taitneamh, suaimhneas agus craic as an deireadh seachtaine agus go raibh níos mó cairde agaibh a dul abhaile ná mar a bhí ag teacht.
All-Ireland Scór finals take a lot of organising. On behalf of all, I wish to express our gratitude to Coiste Náisiúnta Scór, Coiste Scór Chonnachta and Coiste Scór Mhaigheo for leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to ensure a great occasion is enjoyed by all. The burden of work does not always fall evenly and it would be remiss not to single out the efforts of Jamie Ó Tuama and Tomás Ó Muirí, both in their first year as Runaí of their respective coistí, Coiste Náisiúnta and Coiste Chonnachta. When we see what they have achieved as novices we can only look forward to tremendous deeds in the future! Catherine Gallagher of Sligo has looked after the commercial end of the programme production for the past three competitions, an unenviable task carried out in a most efficient manner.
Scór Caoga is a period of time when we remember and celebrate all those who have helped make Scór what it is today. As we reach this point in time, we are constantly seeing stalwarts of Scór in earlier days being called to the Heavenly Stage. This past year has seen the passing of Rose Longworth (whose contribution to Scór was recognised with a Long-Service Award last April) and William Smith (Oifigeach Cultúir & Teanga, An Dúin) amongst others. Last weekend we lost Paddy Fitzgerald of Waterford, another long service award winner. As we stood by the graveside of Derry Gowen, in Fermoy, this January, we prayed for all those who served Scór in any way in times past and at present: Iomaitheoirí, teagascóirí, moltoírí, baill de choistí Scór, Fir & Mná Tí, Maistrí na gCeist, tuismitheoirí, lucht tacaíochta, riarthóiri fuaime, soilse, grianghrafanna agus go h-áirithe ceapairí. Every contribution, so selflessly given has created a movement of which we are merely the guardians. And as mighty oaks fall, acorns sprout, put down roots and grow as can be seen from the innovative worker of the young creators of Scór Camp. As ever, in Scór na nÓg, our motto and our practice should always be...... Mol an Óige agus Tiocfaidh sí.
Go raibh an t-ádh le gach iomaitheoir sna comórtais. Go raibh tuiscint dhiaga ag na moltoirí. Go raibh deireadh seachtaine den scóth agaibh go léir. Go dté Scór ar aghaidh ag cothú an aosa óig agus ag caomhnú ár ndúchais.

Teachtaireacht ó Rúnaí Scór Chonnacht Tomás Ó Muirí, Rúnaí
Ar son Choiste Scόr Chonnacht, tá sé de phribhléid agam cúpla focal a scríobh sa chlár seo. I dtosach báire, ba mhaith liom céad míle fáilte a chur roimh gach éinne anseo inniu chuig Babhta Ceannais na hÉireann de Scór na nÓg
2019. Guím gach rath ar na hiomaitheoirí go Tomás Ó Muirí léir as gach cearn den tír agus táim ag tnúth Rúnaí Scór Chonnacht leis an ardchaighdeán sna comórtais. Tá súil agam go mbeidh lá iontach agaibh agus go mbainfidh sibh sult agus pléisiúr as na comórtais.
Today, as we embark on the wonderful venue of the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, I would like to acknowledge the work and commitment of Comhairle Chonnacht CLG, Coiste Scόr Mhaigh Eo and indeed Coiste Scόr Chonnacht. All committees have worked tirelessly to ensure that this weekend will be an enjoyable and memorable experience for all. To Jamie Ó Tuama (nuacheaptha mar Oifigeach Forbartha na Gaeilge) i bPáirc an Chrόcaigh, I extend a “Fáilte Uí Cheallaigh” to Scόr and ensure you of my full support in your new role. I also wish to congratulate my predecessor, Aodán Ó Braonáin, who was appointed by Uachtarán C.L.G., Seán Ó hÓráin as Cathaoirleach of Coiste Náisiúnta Scór.
I extend a special word of thanks to two people who gave so generously of their time, ensuring we had a fantastic publication for today’s competitions. Catherine Uí Ghallachóir (Sligeach) Rúnaí Cúnta, has spent many hours communicating with clubs across the country in relation to adverts and was always at the end of the phone as various tasks arose in preparation for this weekend. Míle buíochas Catherine. The second individual I pay a special tribute to is a good friend I can always turn to in my own club, Cormac Mac an Fhailigh (Naomh Dominic, Ros Comáin) for compiling this entire publication, which will be a collector’s item on this, the 50th anniversary of Scór. Cormac has spent weeks preparing this programme and proved very patient as deadlines grew near. Go raibh míle maith agat, a Chormaic.
As we mark Scόr Caoga, spare a thought for our friends who are no longer with us. A great debt of gratitude is also owed to those people for leaving us such a legacy. I have no doubt but the commitment and hard work of these people will be mirrored in the enjoyment those watching derive from our competitions today.
Bainigí sult agus taitneamh as an lá. Tomás O Muirí 9

Teachtaireacht ó Rúnaí Scór Uladh Dónal Mac Giolla Earnáin, Rúnaí
For our competitors today in Castlebar is the fruition of many hours of dedication and hard work.
It is a marvellous honour to represent your family, club, county and Province in an All- Ireland final and your memories of this day will always be with you. Everyone on Dónal Mac Giolla Earnáin stage today is a winner and my wish is that Rúnaí, Coiste Scór Uladh you perform to the best of your ability and enjoy the day.
In Ulster we have been treated to many an entertaining night over the winter at county and Provincial level and I know the entertainment today will continue in that vein.We owe a debt of gratitude to the members of our clubs who put in so much time and effort helping our youth achieve their ambition.
So many people are involved in the promotion of Scór and our culture, which is one of the aims of Cumann Lúthchleas Gael. Our clubs willingly provide their premises and stewards and they always make everyone welcome.
Obviously there is a sense of achievement and satisfaction in winning but the overriding ethos of Scór is friendship. Many a new friendship is forged and lifetime friendships are made and I’m sure some more will be made today.

Teachtaireacht ó Rúnaí Scór na Mumhan Diarmuid ó Dúbhda, Rúnaí
Tá an lá mór tagtha. Tá gach rud in ord agus in eagar. Tá gach éinne ag súil le hocáid mhór speisialta anseo i Caisleán an Bharraigh. Táim cinnte go ndéanfaidh gach éinne a dhícheall sárléiriú a thabhairt ar an stáitse inniu.
The day that every competitor that started out in Scór na nÓg this year dreamed about has finally arrived. Diarmuid ó Dúbhda Unfortunately for the vast majority, the dream remains a Rúnaí Scór na Mumhan dream, but for those lucky enough to have been announced as CHAMPIONS of their respective PROVINCES, the dream becomes reality today. The ecstasy and excitement generated over the past few weeks at the prospect of an appearance on the ‘biggest’ platform that SCÓR can offer, culminates in those few precious moments on stage here in the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar.
The titles on offer this year are particularly sought after, as this is a landmark in the history of SCÓR, Afterall we are celebrating the ‘GOLDEN JUBILEE’ of the establishment of our competitions program, and just as the titles won in Centenary year in 1984 or those won in Millennium year in 2000 took on special significance, those that succeed today will equally treasure their achievement for many years to come.
It takes a particular skillset and an amount of luck to reach this, the absolute ultimate stage of Scór na nÓg. Every competitor appearing on stage today has worked extremely hard to get themselves to the required level of competence to enable them to compete for ultimate honours in their respective disciplines. We salute them and wish them well. While sadly some will be disappointed when the results are announced later, let this in no way take from the pride which they should feel at being up there with the best.
We salute all those who have coached, worked with and encouraged those appearing on stage and thank them for the vote of confidence in SCÓR. We thank you for coming along to support and ‘cheer on’ your respective teams. While we in MUNSTER will be willing our own competitors to success, we know that irrespective of local allegiance worthy champions will be crowned in the ‘cool’ of the evening. Let the fun begin! 12

The Birth of Scór Interview with Phonsie Tully, the man who christened Scór
Scór – where did it come from? Phonsie Tully, a member of St. Aidan’s G.A.A. Club in Roscommon, is a well known G.A.A. enthusiast and has also officiated at all levels of the Association. Phonsie took time out to reflect on the foundation of Scór and how it has evolved over the past fifty years. Thomas Murray,
Connacht Scór Rúnaí, put the following questions to Phonsie. Phonsie Tully
Phonsie, could you give me a brief insight into the foundation of Scór? Scór evolved from a motion (Number 45) put forward at Annual Congress 1969 by Derry Gowen (Cork) “to create more social activity in the winter months”. Derry Gowen and Tony Williamson (Down) organised the first G.A.A. Talent Competitions in 1969 and interestingly, legendary G.A.A. Commentator Mícheal Ó hÉithir was the Question Master in the Final. The following year, Séamus Ó Riain (Past-President of the G.A.A.), Anne Dolan, Ciarán Ó Neill, Michael Sheridan and myself joined / were appointed to the National Committee. We deliberated on a name for the competitions, I proposed “Scór”, which was unanimously agreed and the rest, as they say, is history.
How have you seen Scór evolve or change over the years? Initially there were no age limits; however it was soon evident that Under 16’s competing against adults was unfair to everybody and a separate competition for younger competitors, Scór na nÓg, was formed. This has since proved to have been a very wise decision. In the early years, many clubs held their own internal competitions and they were very keenly contested. Over the years various changes were made to the format/rules and some competitions are no longer contested e.g. Léiriú replaced the Novelty Act which replaced Public Speaking.
Did you compete yourself? At local level, I was part of a Ballad Group and to our surprise and delight we won the 1970 Scór County title. When we got to the venue (the Royal Cinema, Roscommon) for the Connacht Final, the crowd outside was so big we had to enter by a back door!
What was your most memorable Scór moment? There were many memorable moments over the years but one or two stand out. I will always remember the Question Time in the Connacht Scór Final in Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim. The quiz ended in a tie but the Question Master ran out of questions and the tie-breaker was postponed until the end of the other competitions. However, it ended up being a late night finish and it was reported that one person got to 6 a.m. Mass in Loughrea on his way home! I also recall with pleasure the night that my own club, St. Aidan’s, were announced as winners of the All-Ireland Scór na nÓg Novelty Act in 2002 and Katie Heneghan for recitation / story telling in 2016 and 2018.
What would you like to say to our All-Ireland Scór Finalists today? Most importantly, enjoy the day and the privilege of taking part in an All-Ireland Final. We should always be grateful to the many, many people who work behind the scenes to ensure that, as far as possible, Scór na nÓg and Scór Sinsir competitions are organised to the highest standards.
Phonsie Tully will be recognised today at the Scór na nÓg All Ireland Final for his early contribution to Scór. 15

Scór Memories Sharon Mannion
From Tayto crisps down the back of the hall, to last minute run throughs side stage, my memories of Scór are as varied as they are many.
For as long as I can remember, my family have been involved. I’d plonk myself in the front row while my parents milled around, on-stage and off, maybe MC’ing the show, selling a few raffle tickets or making a few sandwiches for the break.
I was enthralled by it all, but particularly by the Novelty Act and it wasn’t long before I assembled a team in school and pestered Sharon Mannion my mother, Alice Mannion, to write us a sketch of our own.
Our first performance was the opening round in Kilmurray Hall. I remember it well. Our sketch centred around an echo and featured such classic punch lines as ‘Red Rum’ and ‘Today and Tomorrow’. We made it to the Roscommon county final if memory serves, and from then on, we were hooked.
We’d get together every year and even though it took us several attempts to win our first county final and a few more to win our one and only provincial title, nothing could dim our enthusiasm.
There were nights we went on stage without forgotten props, nights we missed more than a couple of lines, a night Lisa Bailey performed with a broken toe!
I dabbled in other sections. Ballad Groups, Recitations, Solo Singing, I even learned off All-Ireland winning teams from 1950 onwards for Tráth na Ceist. But my heart belonged to the Novelty Act.
Our appearance at an All-Ireland was the high point. We even had a bus full of supporters. A bus! For us! I’ll never forget the excitement in the lead up, the extra rehearsals, the push to get our costumes just right. We didn’t win, I forget who did, (Who am I kidding, it was Six-Mile-Bridge, Co Clare. I’ll never forget). But we sang Queen’s ‘We Are the Champions’ all the way home.
For me, there was nothing like the buzz of Scór. For a non-sporty teenager, it was wonderful to experience the feeling of ‘togging out’ for your club and county. The feeling that everyone was behind you, willing you on, and hoping, just as much as you were, that this might be your night.
It’s easy to forget how these childhood experiences shape you, but shape you they do. I now make my living writing and performing comedy and the first place I ever did that was Scór. Long may it last.
Sharon Mannion is an actor, comedian and writer. She is best known for her role as ‘Concepta’ in the RTE comedy ‘Bridget & Eamon’ 16

Campa Scór No Camp Like a Scór Summer Camp
This summer Nicole Keenan (18) and Eimear Magee (17), with the support and oversight of their GAA club, Mayobridge, Co, Down, brought to fruition a project that they had being planning for a few years...A Scór Summer Camp. With the assistance of about a dozen young clubmates, their club officers and Scór champions from across Ulster they have provided a template for clubs nationwide who wish to encourage participation in Scór. Here is their story. Mol an Óige agus tiocfaidh siad
A few years previous to Summer 2018, while sitting at an Ulster Semi-Final in Glenullin, County Derry, thoughts were shared of how great it would be to hold a week of activities that would showcase our, culture, music, song and dance. While Cúl Camps were being held in every County in Ireland, we had the dream that one day we could organise a similar camp in Mayobridge on the model of Scór.
SO... For the next three years we tossed and turned ideas, plans, over ambitious thoughts, research and reality, and eventually with much planning and with 100% backing from our executive committee in Mayobridge, our dream of holding a Scór Camp became a reality.
16th-20th July was the date selected. Registration took place in June. We were amazed at the response and had to close entry at 50 children, with a mixture of all abilities. Each camp-day began at 9 am and ended at 2pm. The days were filled with a variety of activities with our ceannairí leading sessions in music, song, dance, art, language and sports. The highlight of each day was the visit of various All-Ireland Champions from Antrim, Derry, Tyrone and Down. Our County and Club Officers also popped in to see how much fun the children were having. Grateful as we were to those who were there to support us, we had two very special people missing, as we tragically lost out club’s Scór competitor Nicole Fegan and County Cultural Officer William Smith during the year. But they were with us throughout the week as their photographs sat on a special table every day.
To conclude our week, on the Friday afternoon the children performed a concert for their parents and families, wearing their new sky blue summer camp jerseys. As the first camp concluded we reflected on an amazing week which was thoroughly enjoyed, by all children, parents, ceannairí and the club. Our hope now, as you read this article, is that you too will pick up the baton of the template we produced in 2018 and, as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Scór, that before long a Scór summer camp will be held in every County in Ireland. You won’t know until you try it. Our aim is to go all County. Nicole & Eimear 17

Donnacha O Drisceoil An Appreciation
It was with deep sadness, that we learned on the morning of May 25th, that our esteemed County Scór President Donncha O Drisceoil had passed to his eternal reward. In his 90th year, 'Sonny', as he was best known to all who knew him, had left behind a rich legacy of service, to his family, his local community, the G.A.A. and to Scór in particular.
Born in 1928, in the West Cork Parish of Caheragh, between Drimoleague and Skibbereen, Sonny was one of a family of six, having four sisters and one brother. The young 'O Driscoll' grew up with a very strong sense of pride in his native place. Coming from a small holding, in common with many others of his generation, having left his school days behind him, he was compelled to find work outside the farm to supplement the family income. Gifted with his hands, he was capable of taking on any task from building repairs, to carpentry or electrical work. In those early years he worked with Lanes of Cork who specialised in the fowl trade, and it was through his involvement with this Company that he met his future wife Rita Hayes who hailed from the townland of Ardura near Ballydehob. They were married on the 24th of September 1960 and went on to have four children, two boys and two girls. He inherited the family farm shortly after their marriage and took to his new role as 'The Boss' on the farm with the same vigor as he had shown in all previous engagements.
While the main enterprise was dairying, as a further source of income he grew he grew vegetables for the ERIN FOODS plant in Skibbereen, taking particular pride in his celery production.
During all this time he was extremely active in the community. Instrumental in establishing what we now know as the Tadhg Mac Carthaighs Club in the parish in the 50s, the fledgling club trained and played on the O Driscoll lands until the club succeeded in acquiring its own ground. Even then, Sonny was largely responsible for the fund raising and development of the new pitch. He also played a significant role in the fund raising for, and construction of the local church, which was consecrated in 1963. The local carnival was a major feature locally and Sonny's 'wheel of fortune' was no mean contributor to the financial success of the annual venture.
Bill Harte of Carbery Rangers introduced Sonny to Scór in 1981, when after an incident ridden finale to a match at which both were officiating, Bill as referee, and Sonny as umpire, the conversation deviated from what had just happened, to the merits of the Derry Gowan inspired, talent competitions. In common with 18

Donnacha O Drisceoil An Appreciation everything else that Sonny committed himself to, once he gave his word, the dedication was absolute. It was an extremely proud moment for him when the club team cloaked itself in All Ireland success in the NUACHLEAS competition in Scór na nÓg in 1988.At the time he was serving Divisional Scór chairman. That same year he succeeded the late John Drinan of Douglas to the chair of the County Scór Committee.
During his nine years at the helm, there were many positive developments. Sponsorship was attained for the first time while the County in conjunction with the Provincial committee hosted three All Ireland finals, Donnacha (Sonny) O Drisceoil Scór Sinsir in 1993 and 1994 and Scór na nÓg in 1994. The move from one adjudicator to three, per competition, also happened under his watch.
Sonny took a very deep personal interest in the progress of all Cork competitors, both in Scór Sinsir and Scór na nÓg. He travelled to support our champions, to various venues around the country, always encouraging and invariably consoling when results hadn't lived up to expectation. Behind it all Sonny was straight! You knew where you stood with him. He told it as it was, which is why he enjoyed the respect of all he came in contact with. He didn't suffer fools lightly and lived by a philosophy of, "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing it right". He took great pride in the achievement of success, success for his own club, success for his own sons and grandsons on the football fields, not to mention his nephew John in Ballingeary (All Ireland senior football winner with Cork in 1989 and 1990) but also in seeing everybody realising their personal potential.
It was fitting, that at the end of his term in the County Chair, with the permission of the County Board, he was elected to the position of Life President of the Scór committee. While in latter years ill health and the ageing process prevented him from attending as often as he would have wished, his interest in the progress and welfare of both the competitors and the competitions in general was as strong as ever. Predeceased by his wife Rita a year earlier, the passing of Sonny O Driscoll leaves a large void, for his family, his community in both Caheragh and the wider West Cork area, but also for all of us in Scór and in Cumann Luthchleas Gael in general. Of Sonny, it can be truely said "Ni bheidh a leitheid ann aris" Diarmuid ó Dúbhda

William J. Smith An Appreciation
The world of Down GAA lost one of its favourite sons when we learned of the sudden death of William Smith on Tuesday 29th May. There was great shock when the news broke that William was gone from us, a man of the Mournes had been taken to his heavenly home all too soon. We knew him as William or William James to those with longer memories, a man who always gave of his very best for his Club and his County. William J.Smith We talk with pride of Mourne Granite and William was a man fashioned out of all that is good in Mourne, he had the strength of Mourne Granite and he had the pride in his place and the love of his people. William Smith was a good man in every way, he was one of those people who said I will do that and he did it. William epitomised the GAA as the Give All Association for he himself gave all to his Club and his County, more than anyone could have asked.
The history books of Down GAA will record that William served his County as a member of The South Down Committee and then as Vice Chairperson and later as South Down Chairperson. Prior to that William had a keen interest in the then vibrant Down GAA Youth Board being a delegate back in 1981. William saw the bigger picture, he saw that the County was an extension of his Club and he could best serve his Club by giving commitment to the County and in turn then to his fellow Clubs throughout the County.
On Coiste Banisti William served as Vice Chairperson, as delegate to the Ulster Council and for the past four years as Irish and Cultural Officer.
To each of these roles he brought commitment and dedication, with the desire to make a difference to the GAA in Down. In these roles William did indeed make a difference, as Vice Chairperson and thus Chair of CCC William oversaw the change in the format of our Championships and was always keen to improve the presentation of our Championship fixtures in particular. Over the Club Championship weekends William was always on duty be it monitoring a side line or ensuring that a singer was in place for 20

William J. Smith An Appreciation
Amhrán na bhFiann, he was happy when we were presenting our games well.
Serving on Ulster Council led William to enjoy friendships with people from other Counties but also to fight the corner for the Clubs of Down to ensure that they got their entitlements and their representation when the need was there. There is no doubt that his love for all things Irish and for our Culture in particular meant that the post of Irish and Cultural Officer was a post made for William. He took to the task with passion and quiet persuasion in a remarkable way that he had of mixing both attributes to ensure that Scór was to the fore of GAA activity in the County.
As Irish and Cultural Officer he oversaw All Ireland Titles being won in Solo Singing twice and in Ballad Group twice, his record in the annals of Scór in Down will not be easy surpassed. Yet there is one moment that gave him the greatest pride of all and that was when Niamh McDowell from his own Club was crowned All Ireland Scór na nÓg Champion in 2017. I do not think there was a prouder man in the Waterfront Hall when the result was announced and Glasdrumman had an All-Ireland Champion. Scór was where William was happiest, he enjoyed the Competitions at all level within Down and then at Provincial Level, he enjoyed the friendships he made, friendships that took him throughout Ireland to Provincial and National Finals.
Glasdrumman was so important to William, it was his parish, it was where he was from and it was his Club, the Club he played for, the Club he served as a committee member and as a Chairperson. The Club where he oversaw the development of a new ground and Clubrooms, a Club where he had pride in his place. The people of Glasdrumman were Williams people, here he had built a successful business, created jobs and at all times looked out for the good of his community. Down GAA lost a good man when we bade farewell to William Smith but his memory lives on in our commitment to our language and our culture.

Fergal Ó Murchú
After two decades at the top of the international music scene Fergal Ó Murchú remembers fondly his early beginnings in Scór na nÓg. He is holder of eleven All Ireland titles, three of which are Scór na nÓg. He is the only person ever to win three All Ireland's in a row in the history of Scór na nÓg for singing. It is a great honour for Fergal to sing Amhrán na bhFiann to mark the 50th anniversary of this celebrated competition and in his native Co.Mayo makes it an occasion of further significance. Twenty one years ago this coming July saw Ragus, the show which he founded, tour internationally to huge critical acclaim from venues as far afield as “The Warsaw Opera House”, “Tokyo Opera City” and closer to home “The Olympia Theatre” in Paris, as well as Dublin's “Olympia Theatre” and “The Bord Gais Energy Theatre”.
The Scór All Ireland Finals which in the early nineties were hosted in the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin, are occasions that Fergal still remembers as highlights of his early involvement in music and G.A.A. Solo performances on “The Late Late Show” with Gay Byrne and “Good Morning Australia” with Burt Newton, as well as guest appearances with the Chieftans and Ireland's national symphony orchestra are highlights which are to the fore. 22

Situated on the shores of Lough Neagh, Aghagallon is a rural club with a rich Scór tradition. Since the mid 1990’s, Aghagallon have competed in all disciplines of Scór and have had huge success at Provincial and National levels, winning two All Ireland titles and twelve Provincial titles in that time.
We are delighted to have our Rince Foirne team in the All Ireland Final this year, after many years of success at County Level. The girls have danced together in Scór since a very young age and so this makes their success very special to them. The success of Scór in our club is down to the love that the community has for our traditions and cultures and we have no doubt that this will continue to thrive in years to come.

Newcastle’s first involvement in Scór was in 1973 with numerous victories at county, provincial and national level and a total of seven All-Ireland titles in the intervening years.
The recent Munster victories of our figure dancers means that, to date, the club has won Munster titles in five of the eight disciplines. The Newcastle Club has a long standing tradition of Irish dancing and we are very proud to say that our figure dancers have been fortunate enough to win the Munster, Scór na nÓg Final for the past three years consecutively.

Clonduff GAA Club was one of the first Co. Down Clubs to embrace the new Gaelic Football, playing its first recorded game on 5th November 1887 and has been in constant existence since then with varying degrees of success. By the time Scór was introduced in 1969 a Camogie Club had taken root the previous year and they too will be participating in an All Ireland Final in two weeks time.
Clonduff became whole-heartedly involved in Scór activities from its inception and have been an ever present participant in both Scór Sinsir and Scór na nÓg winning the first of only two Scór Sinsir titles in 1977 in the Novelty Act. It would be 40 years before they would win the next – Ballad Group in 2017. In the meantime, Hurling and Handball had been introduced to Clonduffians in the 1980s and Ladies Gaelic in 2001 and our Scór na nÓg dancers had made history in 1993 when they annexed the All Ireland Ceili and Set Dancing titles using only nine different dancers – a record that holds to this day. The same group of very youthful Set Dancers had won the All Ireland two years previously. Five members of that same team are currently competing in the Down Scór Sinsir having regrouped in 2018 to mark the 25th anniversary of that momentous day. 29

These are indeed exciting times for this junior football club from the North West Cork division of DUHALLOW. The 'home club' of former Education Minister Batt O’Keeffe, whose first cousin, the late Con 'Corney' O' Sullivan, wrapped himself in All Ireland glory in the 'solo' Instrumental, in Scór Sinsir, back in 1972.
It took all of 45 years before the club got to contest their next Scór All Ireland, when Maggie Moynihan's haunting interpretation of the song 'Cooraclare',in Sligo last year, won the admiration of adjudicators and audience alike, to take the Amhránaíocht Aonair title back to the 'Rebel' County for the first time since 1987.
Today, Maggie is back, this time in the 'Bailéad Ghrúpa' where she is joined by Clodagh, Katie, Emily and Gemma, in quest of further success. We wish them well, as they bid to retain the title for Cork, with Carbery Rangers having won the title last year. Corcaigh agus Cuillinn Uí Chaoimh Abú!

The Ballad Group is the second competition today in which St. Patrick’s G.A.A. club members represent their county and province.
These girls have been singing together since children in their local folk choir. They are active members of the G.A.A. club and also take part in many different singing and dancing clubs.
This is their first Scór All Ireland appearance together, although they have had All Ireland success in Community Games group singing. This is the first appearance for St. Patrick’s, Ardagh in a Scór na nÓg Ballad group All Ireland, although our senior group has contested the last three All Ireland Finals.

Aghagallon is a rural club on the shores of Lough Neagh, County Antrim. Scór has been a huge part of club and community life for over thirty years after being introduced by Agnes Hannon, RIP.
Scór affords the children the opportunity to forge friendships, have fun and make memories; while acquiring skills that will stay with them for a lifetime.
The club has enjoyed provincial success at Scór Sinsir in Amhránaíocht Aonair, Bailéad Ghrúpa and Léiriú. We hold three provincial Léiriú titles, two in Scór na nÓg and one provincial title in Scór Sinsir, one provincial Rince Foirne title, one provincial solo singing title and the ballad group holds seven provincial titles and two All Ireland titles.
MUMHA: Na Gaeil, Ciarraí
Na Gaeil, Kerry’s youngest GAA club, have a lot of reasons to start 2019 on a high note ... they have deservedly been promoted to the ranks of Division 1 for the year ahead, are basking in the glory of having two of their rising young football stars, Jack Barry and Diarmuid O’Connor on the starting fifteen with Kerry Senior Team and are eagerly looking forward to another All Ireland Scór na nÓg Final appearance ...
They have been proudly flying the Scór flag for over twenty years, actively involved in Scór Sinsir, and Scór Na bPàistí winning numerous County titles. However, it is in Scór na nÓg they have been most successful, capturing four Munster titles to date.
Na Gaeil would like to wish their talented Léiriú competitors and mentors the very best of luck as they take to the stage on Saturday 16th February at The Royal Theatre, Castlebar in their bid for All Ireland Glory..!
