Marc Jackson compared him to Gary Payton and because of his rebounding ability; the media tabbed Rajon Rondo as the best example of what he could turn into. Still, others thought he was built in the Steve Francis mold. However, it may be the Black Mamba, in terms of intensity and eye- popping athletic ability, who may be the closest and best equivalent when looking at the future of Russell Westbrook. Kobe Bryant is arguably the greatest player the NBA has seen in the last thirty years not named Michael Jordan. He has been the heartbeat of LA's most historic team for almost two decades and has hoisted the Larry O'Brien trophy five separate times. His comments during ESPN Grantland's Basketball Hour were revealing about the level of respect he has for a man who is walking down a similar path. His experience, success, basketball acumen and specifically his relationship with Shaquille O'Neal made him a perfect candidate to judge the maturation of man who is escaping the shadow of an established star.

(Dated: April 21, 2020) Individual performance metrics are commonly used to compare players from different eras. However, such cross-era comparison is often biased due to significant changes in success factors underlying player achievement rates (e.g. performance enhancing drugs and modern training regimens). Such historical comparison is more than fodder for casual discussion among sports fans, as it is also an issue of critical importance to the multi- billion dollar professional sport industry and the institutions (e.g. Hall of Fame) charged with preserving sports history and the legacy of outstanding players and achievements. To address this cultural heritage management issue, we report an objective statistical method for renormalizing career achievement metrics, one that is par- ticularly tailored for common seasonal performance metrics, which are often aggregated into summary career metrics – despite the fact that many player careers span different eras. As such, subsequent re-ranking of the top-50 all-time records in MLB and the NBA using renormalized metrics indicates reordering at the local rank level, as opposed to bulk reordering by era.

I know the season is still about a month away from beginning, but Phil Jackson is quickly making a strong case for General Manager of the Year. He became the executive of the New York Knicks before the 2014 season as he took over from Steve Mils. In his first season as the executive of the Knicks, they went 37-45 and ended up in 9th place. In his year two, the Knicks would end up going 17-65 and have one of the worst seasons in the Knicks history. After last season had ended the way it did, many Knicks fans were calling for the New York sports radio world and wanted Phil Jackson out, and there were people who were wondering if he would ask to get a buyout. After last season, the Knicks fired Derek Fisher and would end up hiring Jeff Hornacek in the middle of June. After they hired him, the Knicks would start making moves to bolster their offense. They would end up getting Derrick Rose, Justin Holiday, Joakim Noah, Courtney Lee, Brandon Jennings and Marshall Plumlee. They also got rid of a lot of their players who were not helping the team. With who the Knicks ended up getting, it is safe to say that the Knicks are planning on going for a possible run this season. It is understandable that the season has not started yet and this is a long shot, but with what Phil Jackson has done that he could get the award for the General Manager of the Year.
