Fleet Captain Power Ryan Miller

Wait, what?!?...Memorial Day weekend and JUNE are here already??? I think Father Time needs to pump the brakes until he and Mom Nature get on the same page! That said, I'm sure you're are all in the same position as me...scrambling to sneak a couple hours on the few nicer days so far to cross some To-Do items off the list.

I thought this might be a good time to throw some safety reminders out that may not be on the list, and can certainly help protect us all to ensure a safe and fun summer: 1. Check your fire extinguishers and flares to make sure they are properly charged and not expired. Don't forget the notice Michele sent out regarding the Kidde fire extinguisher recall. 2. Be sure to inspect your electrical connections and systems to ensure everything is tight and corrosion-free. I imagine the dock committee will be coming around to check for stray current in the water once the docks are officially opened and boats start filling the marina. Notifying them to come down and check around your boat can help keep our marina safe. Remember: No one should get into the water in any marina. 3. Consider installing or checking a number of safety detection devices that can save your boat, or more importantly you! Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in the sleeping areas have been written about recently and are always a good idea. A couple others mentioned recently are high-bilge-water and gasoline vapor detectors down in the engine compartment. 4. If you're a member of Boat US, download the Boat US app on your phone to get instant access to your services, weather forecasts/advisories, and request a tow. 5. Another useful app is from the US Coast Guard. Safety equipment checklists, requesting a Safety Check, filing a float plan, brushing up on the "Rules of the Road", reporting a hazard, etc.

You can also populate a profile with your boat and contact information. In case of an emergency there is a one touch call button that shares your location and information. 6. For those that were able to attend the "Suddenly in Command" class, I'm sure you would agree that educating your guests about the basics of your boat is always a good idea. Most times we're in a hurry to get moving, excited to get the trip started, or just don't think anything will happen. Taking the few minutes to make sure people know where life jackets, fire extinguishers, throwables, etc. are at could prove life saving.

I didn't start out to draft a serious article, but hopefully noting a few of these steps can keep us all safe!

Finally, I hope to see many of you attend the Opening of the Port festivities, and then also our Homecoming! For those newer members that haven't been here when we are a Poker Run, it is a great time and talked about the rest of the summer! Please volunteer to help! It takes a major effort to pull off this weekend, and many hands make light work. I also encourage you to come down to your club and welcome our guests from all over the lake. Ours is the first of five poker runs and a great way to meet fellow boaters from the other clubs!

Don't be a stranger to your club!

Happy !- Fleet Captain Ryan Miller [email protected] (419) 601-1047 Facebook: 'TSC On The Run' Group

Sunshine Report- Mary Maenle

I would like to wish congratulations and many years of happiness to PC Mike Schmuhl and Eroca Head. They got married on April 13 th in Ft. Myers Florida!

I am hoping for a speedy recovery to Kevin Horvath who had a surgical procedure and to Phil Przybylski who had double bypass surgery in May. I wish you both are on the mend and back at the club before you know it.

If you have anything you would like to report, please e-mail me at [email protected].

I will need your news by the 21st of each month, so I will have time to include it in the article.

Sincerely, Mary Maenle

We are looking for some help to get the building and grounds cleaned up...... aka "Sparkle Party"! A list is posted on the bulletin board with various tasks that can be marked off when completed. Please bring rakes, gloves, paint brushes...whatever you're comfortable working with. We're the first Poker Run this year for our Homecoming, so we would like the club and grounds in tip top shape for our guests! Questions....ask Dan Petro or PC Michele VanDromme.

Serving Boaters in the Lake Erie Region since 1885

ILYA it’s more than sail boat races and a hospitality room. Did you know they host 2 weeks of sail regattas followed by a week of power boat regatta at Put in Bay? While we are mostly a power boat club you might be interested in Power Boat week which is August 7th -11th. Pre-registration is required through i-lya.org until about mid- July. When you register you will select different events or dinners to participate in and register your boat for dockage. There will also be activities to participate in once you get to the bay. After you are registered you will receive your packet via email that will contain all your pertinent information for the week. For those of you that have not attended and are interested, there are events for all ages. Children 12-18 may participate in a Safe Boating Seminar and on–the-water training and competition using inflatable boats. Children 15-18 may participate in corn hole, softball and games. For younger children there is a tournament, putt putt and other games. And of course, there is plenty of activities for adults including the above mentioned games for older kids and water volleyball – which is new this year will be Ohio State vs. Michigan, so wear your team colors. If you plan on participating at Bay Week please plan on some volunteer hours. This could simply be dock security or golf cart shuttle drivers just as an example. Whatever you volunteer to do it will be fun!
