2020 Pinewood Derby EXTREME Class Rules

This exciting fun addition to Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Racing is designed to bring out the ultimate design and engineering techniques of Cub Scouts and their family that will be allowed to participate. Four (4) or more places are suggested to be allowed at Pack level and then sending the top three available racers to the Cherokee District Races in March. Only 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Places will be earned at the Cherokee District Race on March 21st.

1. Who may participate: Any family member of a registered Cub Scout (a Cub Scout's brother, sister, father, mother, Grandfather, Grandmother, guardian) - Each entry must be driven by the entry person. (The designer, builder, driver must be of the list above.) - All Cub Scouts must be a current member in good standing of the Cherokee District. - This is to also include all Race Officials and Boy Scouts, Explorers, Ventures, or girl Scouts that are immediate family of a Cub Scout.

2. Size - Height - Weight- Materials used: - Must start with an official BSA Pinewood Derby Car Kit and then add or subtract to the car. - Length should be no more than 71/2 inch long. But cannot protrude beyond the starting pin - Height no higher than 4 inches. It must clear the timing device. - Weight - max weight is 16 ounce or 453 grams but can weigh less. - Ground clearance has to remain no closer than 3/8 inch. - Minimum width of inside car wheels is to be 1 3/4 inches. - Moving and movable parts are acceptable, as long as they stay attached.

3. Starting gate requirements: at pin. No part of the car may extend beyond the starting pin.

4. Must be Gravity Driven ONLY... no motors for propulsion, or propulsion device such as C02 cartridges, rocket, or fireworks...etc ALLOWED!

5. Wheel and axles can be, YES, MAY BE altered and relocated. Springs, bushings, bearings allowed BUT NO Dripping Lubricants Allowed.

6. The car must have been built in the current scout program year (since August 2019)

7. All Cars are to be registered and weighted, measured, and inspected at the official registering time.

8. The Volunteer Chairman in charge of the event will have the final authority to determine eligibility to race.

9. If a car leaves the track, runs out of its lane, or loses parts, the heat will be re-run. (5 min repair time) If it happens again they are disqualified.

10. Racers are responsible for furnishing their own tools and lubricant.

11. Must be able and willing to describe your theory to the audience, before the run.
