This year, Phillips 66 – the title sponsor for the event – is celebrating 40 years of sponsoring USA Swimming, the longest consecutive sponsorship of any amateur sport in history. The company’s association with swimming actually dates back to 1950 when the company created the Phillips Petroleum Splash Club, a local swim program. In the ensuing decades, Phillips 66 has hosted national events, sponsored inner-city swim programs, accepted the AAU Swimming Award, sponsored the Phillips 66 National Championships and, in 2009, helped create the Make a Splash Tour with Cullen Jones. In 1973, the company became an official sponsor of USA Swimming. You will also find the standings of the first three places in all events for men and women at the Olympic Games followed by several classifications which are listed either by the number of titles or medals by swimmer or National Federation. It should be noted that these standings only have an historical aim but no sport signification because the comparison between the achievements of swimmers of different generations is always unfair for several reasons: 1. The period of time. The Olympic Games were not organised in 1916, 1940 and 1944 2. The evolution of the programme.
