The Saimoe Yearbook pursues multiple objectives: Recording the results of saimoe tournaments in 2014, increasing awareness of minor saimoe tournaments, and presenting elite characters among global saimoe tournaments. Most of the featured tournaments were unknown to me before the writing of this yearbook. This yearbook contains eleven saimoe which are very different from each other. One tournament was established early in 2002, while two tournaments saw their first edition in 2014. Some tournaments attracted a large voter base up to several tens of thousands of voters, while one tournament had less than 100 voters in every match. Some tournaments used only 1-vs-1 knock-out matches to determine the champion, while some tournaments used a more complicated system with different methods for different rounds. Some tournaments were open to all voters, while some tournaments required a one-month-old account for voting. Some tournaments document their results excellently, while some tournaments post their results in different threads. The results of those tournaments differ from each other, too. Thirteen different champions won in twelve different tournaments. This discrepancy occurred due to the tied final match of Anime Saimoe Tournament. Love Live! was the only series capable of winning two different tournaments. Three tournaments ended with intra-series finals: Anime Saimoe Tournament with Saki final Haramura Nodoka vs Miyanaga Saki, Baidu Anime Saimoe Tournament with Puella Magi Madoka ☆ Magica final Kaname Madoka vs Akemi Homura, and Baidu Nova Moe with Love Live! final Nishikino Maki vs Minami Kotori. In short, Saki and Love Live! were arguably the most successful series in 2014 tournaments. 2014 shall be known also for other incidents. Best Girl Contest was halted during semifinals on August 1 due to blatant multi-voting. This tournament restarted with a new voting system and the revealing title “Best Girl Contest 1.11: You Can (Not) Cheat”. Anime Saimoe Tournament and Animefans Saimoe Tournament suffered from week-long interruptions. The main section of this yearbook is called “2014 Saimoe tournaments” and presents twelve tournaments with one information page and one to five results pages. Structure of the information page: Established: Year of establishment Links for 2014 tournament: Some hyperlinks to the forum of the tournament, the voting page or complete results for further investigation. Character eligibility: Pre-conditions on character nomination or participation. Voter restriction: Pre-conditions on voting (optional). Special rules: Bonus votes, etc. (optional). Main tournament date: Match days after preliminary rounds. Match time: Start time and end time of the matches (and time zone). Some tournaments didn’t have fixed match times. In this case I mentioned the duration of the matches only. Tournament format: Short description of every round of the tournament. Nomination and preliminary rounds are written in italics. Additional information are given in parentheses ( ), divergent number of participants in brackets [ ]. Previous champions: Chronological list of all past champions of this tournament. An image of the champion(s) is placed below those information. Whenever possible I used an official champion poster or a picture of the champion that was used as an avatar during the tournament. Otherwise I used an unofficial champion poster or character pictures from other tournaments or an image from Danbooru. The last part of the information page is a table of the characters from the quarterfinals onwards. Last eight characters are not necessarily the top eight characters. For example: Yoshino was eliminated in the quarterfinals of International Saimoe League and ended up at eleventh after consolation matches. Saimoe Yearbook 2014 Preface The color code is self-explanatory: Grey for characters eliminated in the quarterfinals, blue for those eliminated in the semifinals, green for runners-up and orange for champions. The results pages include all matches starting from round of 32. Since Hongkong Golden Saimoe didn’t use a round of 32 the results page of that tournament starts with round of 48. I included also the final tables of Regular Season of International Saimoe, because each final table summarizes 630 round robin matches. The matches are sorted chronologically. All characters advancing to the next round of the tournament are highlighted in light orange. Eleven tournaments excluded male characters, but three of the communities also hold male tournaments. These male tournaments are included in the appendix. The appendix also contains a list of champions of some retired tournaments, some miscellaneous statistics and a register of series and characters, which appeared on the results pages of the 2014 tournaments. I followed generally the naming conditions of International Saimoe League for characters and series. Although this is the second version, this yearbook (and even this preface) may contain many errors. So you will find orthographical and grammatical errors, misspelt and mistaken characters and series, and wrong numbers and dates. Don’t hesitate and report these errors either in the comments on http://saimoestats.wordpress.com/2015/01/13/saimoe-yearbook-2014/ or in the thread http://www.internationalsaimoe.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=5295. Now and then I may publish a new version. You can check the version of this yearbook below my signature. In contrast to my original intention I included the Baidu Harem Moe in this version. Last but not least I want to thank some users from the ISML forums, who helped writing texts, mentioned tournaments unknown to me, covered tournaments in the forum, and proofread some parts or provided suggestions: Just, Curisu, smartboyhw, Fujiwara, CureRainbow, Açougueiro, tehyc and RailWarrior. Six months have passed since the first version and several tournaments have already been held in 2015. This year sees some changes and some new tournaments. I shall try to continue this work on the Saimoe Yearbook 2015. For now I hope you enjoy this yearbook, Shmion Version: 2015-07-30 4 Saimoe Yearbook 2014 2014 Saimoe tournaments Champions Anime Saimoe Tournament Haramura Nodoka & Miyanaga Saki Animefans Saimoe Tournament Misaka Mikoto AnimeGirls Saimoe Tournament Aisaka Taiga Baidu Anime Saimoe Tournament Akemi Homura Baidu Harem Moe Eucliwood Hellscythe Baidu Nova Moe Nishikino Maki Best Girl Contest Makise Kurisu The Great Awwnime Bracket Oshino Shinobu Hongkong
