Alum Julie Benz Engaged ‘Dexter’ Alum Julie Benz Engaged After already having experienced a proposal and wedding with her previous husband John Kassir, Dexter actress Julie Benz is ready to do it all over again. Marketing executive boyfriend, Rich Orosco, gave her a grand engagement party on Sunday in their Los Angeles home backyard. With a customized Kwiat cushion-cut diamond and platinum engagement ring, a Mexican-style surprise party and a Mariachi band, Orosco went all out for his Jaw Breaker fiancé–and she marveled in it all. “What girl doesn’t want to be serenaded by a Mariachi band surrounded by close friends and family?” she said, according to People. She couldn’t get enough of the Mexican celebration. ¡Felicitaciones Benz! What are some ways to celebrate your engagement with family and friends? Cupid’s Advice: Engagements go right along with weddings, 1st birthdays, christenings and baby showers in the “importance” category. This is something you would like to sit comfortably in your memory. Cupid has some tips: 1. Get together: Have a small, comfy get together with only a tight knit group at home. You can make it classy with hors d’oeuvres, wine glasses and funky music, yet it’ll still be comfortable in the familiarity of your own home. 2. Let’s take it back: It’s always cool to look back on the good memories you’ve had with your spouse. Crank out the home videos and photo albums, and enjoy some good laughs while breaking the ice between family members and friends. 3. Get a little loose: Take your friends out to a bar and enjoy your favorite drinks while marveling in the good news together. What are some of your engagement celebration ideas? Production design by Sandra Kybartas. Art direction by Mario Mercuri. Set decoration by Enrico Campana. Principal cast: Jason Flemyng (as Henry Creedlow), Peter Stormare (Milo Styles), Leslie Hope (Rosemary Newley), Nina Garbiras (Janice Creedlow), Andrew Tarbet (James Larson), Tom Atkins (Detective McCleary), Jonathan Higgins (Rakowski), Jeff Monahan (Tom Burtram), Marie Cruz (Number 9), Beatriz Pizano (Katie Saldano), Tamsin Kelsey (Mariah Breed), and Kelly King (Gloria Kite). From the article Face To No Face by Michael Rowe, Fangoria , April, 2001: From one of an endless number of nondescript warehouses in an industrial district near Toronto's lakeshore, a cluster of location vans and trailers materializes out of the dirty downtown rain. It's the last day of shooting on George A. Romero's new thriller Bruiser , and the fickle weather has tossed the crew a bone in the form of a few hours of sunlight. Not that it matters to anyone—the location is deep inside the warehouse's airless recesses. The air inside is so thick and dark that it's a small mercy to surface into the fresher air outside. In a film that embraces metaphor, the secrecy and intensity surrounding the story being shot inside couldn't have a better frame than today's location.

  • Julie Benz on Her Marriage: “We Put Our Relationship First Even If That Means Turning Down Work”
Julie Benz on Her Marriage: “We Put Our Relationship First Even If That Means Turning Down Work” By Kerri Sheehan Unlike many performers, 41-year-old Julie Benz didn’t have dreams of appearing on the big screen. In fact, she began her career as a competitive figure skater and didn’t consider acting until an injury forced her off the ice. You may recognize her as Darla, the vampire from the television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the popular spin-off Angel, or Rita, the wife of the title character on Dexter. Expanding her resume, she’ll next be playing mother Stevie Parker in Lifetime’s Taken: The Search for Sophie Parker, which premieres tomorrow night at 8 p.m. ET. Benz describes her character as “a tough NYPD detective who has to work against the clock to save her daughter and her daughter’s friend from the Russian Mafia and sexual slavery ring.” The bubbly blonde was drawn to the role for a number of reasons. “The issue of human trafficking and violence against women is important to me,” she shares. “And the script features a woman in power instead of a woman in peril.” Related Link: Hollywood: Portrayals of Domestic Violence Given these two factors, that actress had to prepare for such a demanding job. “The role required a lot of physical strength and stamina from me.” On an emotional level, Benz had the “honor of speaking to a woman who had been abducted, sold into sex slavery, and rescued by her family when she was a teen,” which helped to personalize the story for her.
