SIPMAN Free University of Berlin Botanical Garden and Museum Königin-Luise-Str. 6-8 D-14195 Berlin, Germany Abstract A total of 296 species of lichenized fungi are reported from Singapore and presented in an annotated list with local distributional information. It is based on herbarium and literature study and the fieldwork done in the year 2000. Unidentified samples suggest the figure to be an underestimation, while some of the listed species may have become extinct. Lists of synonyms and collectors are added. Introduction Tropical conurbations, the world’s most fast-growing habitat, have turned out to harbour significant numbers of lichenized fungi.A ptroot and Seaward (1999) and Aptroot and Sipman (2001) report no less than 308 species for the city of Hongkong. Singapore seems particularly suitable for a study of lichens in an urbanized tropical area because it has received regular attention from botanists during its development from primary lowland forest with small settlements ca 1800 to extensive plantations a century later and to the present urbanized area with large built-up high rise areas interspersed by parks and secondary forest. During 1800-1964 scattered lichen collections were made by visiting and resident general botanists, e.g., E. Almquist, O. Beccari, T.R. Chipp, Kiah, A.M. Lemaitre, A.C. Maingay, H. Möller. Their collections have been investigated and published by, e.g., Krempelhuber (1875, 1877), Nylander and Crombie (1884) and Müller Argoviensis (1893). -

Taxonomic recognition of some species-level lineages circumscribed in nominal Rhizoplaca subdiscrepans s. lat. Szafer Institute of Botany, Polish Academy of Sciences, Kraków, Poland ABSTRACT Background. Rhizoplaca subdiscrepans (Nyl.) R. Sant., a saxicolous, placodioid lichen, is considered to have a worldwide distribution in warm-temperate to boreal-arctic areas in Asia, Europe and North America. However, recent studies have revealed that this species includes five unrecognized species-level lineages—‘subd A, B, C, D and E'. During research focused on the diversity of saxicolous lichens in mountainous areas of southern Poland, some interesting representatives of the genus Rhizoplaca were found. The main aim of our study was to determine the taxonomic status of the collected specimens by means of molecular tools and a comparative analysis of similar herbarium materials. Methods. Detailed morphological, anatomical and chemical examinations of reference material from Asia, Europe and North and South America focused primarily on a selected group of lecanoroid taxa with a placodioid thallus. In addition, 21 new generated sequences representing Lecanora pseudomellea, Protoparmeliopsis muralis, Rhizoplaca opiniconensis, R. subdiscrepans s. lat. and R. phaedrophthalma were selected for molecular study using the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS rDNA), together with 95 available GenBank sequences mainly from the genus Rhizoplaca. A taxonomic study of the crustose lichens in the forest of TAHURA R. Soeryohad been conducted based on morphological, anatomical, and chemical characters. In this research we used the method of descriptive exploration to identify the crustose lichens and to study the distribution of the species in the forest of TAHURA R. Soeryo. Twenty species of crustose lichens with one unidentified species and one specimen identified to the group of family are reported. They are Graphina, Graphis, Phaeographis, Pertusaria, Pachyphiale, Phlyctis, Lepraria, Lecanora, Lecania, Cyphellium, and Megalospora. This research also found the new record species of Megalospora kalbii in Java. Crustose lichens are found in the areas with high light intensity of ≥ 1000 lux, average humidity of ≤ 90%, average temperature of18-190C, and at altitudes of ±1640 dpl. Graphina ruiziana could only be found at the altitude of ± 1780 dpl. The identification key to its species and distributions of other species are presented also in the article. Some Peltigericolous Microlichens from Southern Poland

The list includes: Absconditella delutula, Agonimia vouauxii, Bacidia pycnidiata (for the first time as a lichenicolous lichen), Bacidina chloroticula, Placynthiella dasea, Scutula sp., Steinia geophana, Thelocarpon epibolum, Vezdaea aestivalis and V. retigera. Notes on the taxonomy, ecology and distribution of each species are briefly provided and Polish samples discussed. Keywords: Ascomycota, ecology, lichenized fungi, lichenicolous lichens, post-industrial region Introduction Lichenicolus fungi growing on representatives of the genus Peltigera were investigated many times (e.g. ALSTRUP and HAWKSWORTH 1990, KÜMMERLING and ALSTRUP 1992, MIDLIKOWSKA and ALSTRUP 1995, HAWKSWORTH and MIDLIKOWSKA 1997, MARTÍNEZ and HAFELLNER 1998, MARTÍNEZ 1999, KOCOURKOVÁ 2000, CZYòEWSKA and KUKWA 2009, CANDAN et al. 2010, PUOLASMAA et al. 2012). The genus Peltigera, with members usually forming large lichen thalli with cyanobacteria (e.g. Nostoc spp.), is widely considered one of these lichen hosts that are inhabited by the highest number of fungal specialists (HAWKS- WORTH and MIDLIKOWSKA 1997). Data on lichenicolous lichens and 'four-biont symbioses' are rare (HAWKSWORTH 1988, CZARNOTA 2009). In Poland lichenicolous lichens are still insufficiently known, but recently some of them have been included within the national list of lichenicolous fungi (CZYòEWSKA and KUKWA 2009). -

ISSN 2027-8918 98e-ISSN 2256-5426 Junio-Diciembre 2013; 3 (2): 98-105 Preliminary inventory of corticolous lichens of the Sierra de San Luis, Venezuela Inventario preliminar de líquenes cortícolas de la Sierra de San Luis, Venezuela Gabriela Lugo-Fuenmayor* Abstract Objective: In order to survey the composition of lichen flora in the northern slopes of Sierra de San Luis, Venezuela, six localities along an altitudinal gradient (0-1,400 elevation) were sampled. Methods: Lichens were collected in 60 trees from ground level to 1.3 m high on tree trunks. Results: A total of 85 species, distributed in 40 genera and 25 families were identified, representing 6.3% of the total lichen richness of Venezuela. Families Graphidaceae, Physciaceae and Porinaceae are the most diverse with 18, nine and seven species, respectively. Seventy percent of the total species have a crustose thallus. This study provides the first inventory of lichens for the region, contributing with range extensions for 46 species reported as new for Venezuela Keyword: Altitudinal gradient, Checklist, Lara-Falcon Hill System, Northern South America, Resumen Objetivo: Con el objeto de inventariar la composición de la flora de líquenes cortícolas en la vertiente norte de la Sierra de San Luis en Venezuela, fueron muestreadas seis localidades con diferentes tipos de vegetación a lo largo de un gradiente altitudinal (0-1,400 metros de elevación).
