People were asked to make significant behaviorial changes, act cautiously, sacrifice, and quickly adjust to changing circumstances. Limited practices, adjusted training regimens, socially-distanced instruction, a delayed season, cancelled games: Calvert Hall football experienced the turmoil related to the pandemic first-hand. The Calvert Hall football community should remain incredibly proud of its effort to get the Cardinals back on the gridiron this fall. The young men who have coached and played at Calvert Hall over the last century are incredible representives of the Cardinal & Gold. This was never more true than in 2020. This media guide is dedicated to these coaches and players, especially this year’s senior class. 3 KELLY IS PLEASED TO SUPPORT The Calvert Hall Football Program Go Hall! SCHOOL PROFILE Calvert Hall College (also known as “CHC” or “The Hall” to its students, alumni and friends) is recognized throughout the state, the region and the country for its Catholic and Lasallian tradition, its stellar academic reputation, its excellence in athletics and extracurricular activities, and the success of its alumni. The largest all-male prep school in the state, Calvert Hall has a rich history, dating back 175 years. CHC has been twice named an “Exemplary School” by the U.S. Department of Education. This year, Calvert Hall College has been recognized as “Best Private High School” by The Baltimore Sun, The Daily Record Reader Rankings, and Baltimore Style. After more than a century downtown, the school relocated to its current location on a 32-acre campus in Towson in the fall of 1960. Keelty Hall was originally the only academic building on the new campus. Succeeding decades witnessed the construction of the Activities & Pool Building (now named Carlo Crispino Center), the Marion Burk Knott Center for the Performing Arts, Kelly Field at Paul Angelo Russo Stadium, Carlo Crispino Stadium/McManus Baseball Field, and George Yo u n g Hall. Over the last decade, there has been significant renovations and upgrades to Keelty Hall, including construction of Noppinger Commons, renovations of the chapel and administrative offices, the addition of new science labs, build-out of the Cardinal Shop (formerly the bookstore), and a thorough redesign of the campus dining hall. Calvert Hall was the first permanent academic institution of the De La Salle Christian Brothers in the United States. The mission of St. John Baptist de La Salle calls for a school where academic prowess thrives, where young men are involved in their community, and where a brotherhood is created that will last a lifetime. Calvert Hall is accredited by the Maryland State Department of Education and the Middle States Association of Secondary Schools. Calvert Hall is also affiliated with the Christian Brothers Conference and the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The current administration of Calvert Hall includes: • Brother John Kane, FSC, Ed. • O'halloran: Broncos Trading for Joe Flacco Will Be a Boon Behind The
O’Halloran: Broncos trading for Joe Flacco will be a boon behind the scenes — and bring a sigh of relief for Vic Fangio By Ryan O’Halloran The Denver Post February 14, 2019 Ten thoughts for new Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco and his 10 career postseason wins: 1. I was guilty of overthinking the Broncos’ plans. I thought Option A might be keeping Case Keenum to begin the season but then giving the 10th overall pick (or higher) a chance to play with an eye toward 2020. Uh, not quite. The Broncos went the Conventional Route. They targeted a veteran quarterback and traded for him. Neat and simple. They also went the Old-School Route. In a developing era of mobile quarterbacks, the Broncos acquired themselves a gunslinger. 2. Flacco was 4-3 all-time against the Broncos (nine touchdowns, five interceptions). At Mile High, he won 38-35 in January 2013 (playoffs), lost 49-27 in the 2013 season opener and lost 19-13 in the 2015 season opener. The playoff win was memorable. Flacco threw a 70-yard touchdown pass with 31 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. The Ravens finished that season by beating San Francisco in the Super Bowl. 3. Flacco is 34 years old. He has never been to the Pro Bowl. He lost his job to a rookie last year. But for a fourth-round pick, he is worth the risk … and, really, it’s not a risk. What stands out about him is completion percentage (64.9 and 64.1 his last two full years), his durability (played all 16 games in nine of his 10 years) and his playoff form (10 wins).

  • Reported in the Court of Special Appeals Of
REPORTED IN THE COURT OF SPECIAL APPEALS OF MARYLAND No. 532 September Term, 2008 COMPTROLLER OF THE TREASURY v. JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY Eyler, Deborah S., Wright, Moylan, Charles E., Jr. (Ret'd, Specially Assigned), JJ. Opinion by Eyler, Deborah S., J. Filed: June 9, 2009 Johns Hopkins University (“Hopkins” or “the University”), the appellee, applied for a refund of admissions and amusement taxes it paid to Baltimore City, as collected by the Comptroller of the Treasury (“the Comptroller”), the appellant, on gross receipts from ticket sales to intercollegiate men’s lacrosse games in 2002, 2003, and 2004. When the Comptroller denied the refund request, Hopkins filed a challenge in the Maryland Tax Court. Ultimately, the Tax Court granted the refund. After that decision was affirmed on judicial review by the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, the Comptroller noted this appeal, posing one question for review: Did the Maryland Tax Court commit legal error when it decided that the gross receipts from intercollegiate athletic events were used exclusively for an educational purpose? For the reasons that follow, we uphold the decision of the Tax Court and therefore shall affirm the judgment of the circuit court. FACTS AND PROCEEDINGS In an evidentiary hearing before the Tax Court, on September 13, 2006, Hopkins called witnesses Debra Sorandes, Senior Tax Accountant for the University, and Tom Calder, Director of Athletics and Recreation for Hopkins, and the Comptroller called witness Theresa Trentler, Refund Supervisor. The basic first-level facts were not in dispute. On March 7, 2005, Hopkins filed a written refund application with the Comptroller, seeking to recover $40,672.40 in admissions and amusement taxes it had paid on ticket sales receipts from intercollegiate men’s lacrosse games between February 2002 and June 2004.
