    Press Release Oslo, 6 October 2016 Vågsbygd Dyreklinikk joins AniCura AniCura, one of Europe’s leading providers of high-quality veterinary care for companion animals, continues to grow in Norway with the acquisition of Vågsbygd Dyreklinikk in Sørlandet. For Vågsbygd Dyreklinikk, the collaboration with AniCura means greater opportunities for developing skills and competence as well as an improved care offering to customers. Vågsbygd Dyreklinikk outside Kristiansand, formerly ABC Dyreklinikk, was founded in 2001 by veterinarian Sigurd Bjørtvedt. One year later, veterinarian Erling Frivold joined as a partner and today the clinic's team comprises seven veterinary professionals. The clinic is centrally located in Vågsbygd and carries out everything from diagnostics to treatment, primarily on dogs, cats and other small animals. In addition to clinical examinations and general care, the clinic offers specialized skills within surgery, odontology, cardiology and neurology. Approximately 6 000 patients visit the clinic each year and customers are also offered a mobile veterinary service for select treatments. Premises are well appointed and fully equipped with x-ray, ultrasound, its own laboratory and a full range of endoscopic equipment. The clinic is open every weekday and also operates an around-the-clock service with AniCura Dyreklinikk Sørlandet at the weekends. – We’re right in the middle of an intense time period with significant growth in the number of customers.     Press release Stockholm, 27 June 2015 Antibiotics no free ride to fewer surgical site infections AniCura, one of Europe's leading providers of high-quality veterinary care for companion animals, has completed a major study of infections and the use of antibiotics in surgery. The study, covering 1 000 dogs that underwent surgery at 50 different animal hospitals and clinics throughout Europe, shows that antibiotics are not a guarantee to avoid surgical site infections. While antibiotic prophylaxis in surgery is common throughout the health care sector, and in many cases crucial for avoiding infections, it does not automatically lead to fewer surgical site infections. – Clinics that often use antibiotics prophylactically do not have a lower prevalence of surgical site infections than others, says Ulrika Grönlund, Group Medical Quality Manager at AniCura. A total of 1 035 dogs were included in the study, performed between February and April 2017. The dogs were checked seven days and thirty days after surgery to allow reliable detection of any infections resulting from the surgeries. At clinics in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, infections occurred in 6.3 per cent of cases, while only one third of the patients received prophylactic antibiotics. In Germany, Austria and the Netherlands, the rate of infections was about the same (5.9 per cent), even though over 80 per cent of patients received antibiotic prophylaxis. – Seen from a European perspective, I am convinced we can reduce the use of antibiotic prophylaxis to address the selection of multi-resistant bacteria without increasing the risk of infections. If the right techniques and hygiene procedures are applied, antibiotics should not be necessary in surgeries in non- infected tissue, says Ulrika Grönlund.

Pet Food Industry Association of Australia (PFIAA) The PFIAA is the Pet Food manufacturers, suppliers and distributors representative group/union which obviously has too much control over our governments. They represent 98% of all manufactured/processed and sold pet food by volume in Australia. Their following Mission Statement with point 3 actively promoting processed pet food through their own self regulation totally contradicts point 1, consideration of the needs of pets and the community. The pet needs are obvious and include the need for safe and healthy food which appears not a priority with the PFIAA.

    Press release Stockholm, 15 June 2017 AniCura’s Research Fund supports 13 new research projects AniCura, one of Europe’s leading providers of high-quality veterinary care for companion animals, has for several years provided financial support to veterinary research projects through the AniCura Research Fund. For 2017, thirteen research projects in five different countries have been awarded financial support from the fund. In this years’ application process, AniCura’s Research Fund received almost twice as many applications compared to previous years. Thirteen of the projects, within the disciplines of cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, reproduction and internal medicine were granted financial support from the fund. All applications for funding are reviewed by AniCura’s Scientific Council, comprising leading specialists from different veterinary fields across Europe. – I am pleased to see a significant increase in the number of high quality applications, and an increased number of research projects receiving financial support each year.
