Dinner the Dutch Evening Meal Is Eaten Early and It Is Not Unusual to Finish Dinner at 6.00 Pm Introduction This booklet is the result of a two year cooperation in our project: “The Melting Pot Of Diversities.” It started in September 2013 and ended in July 2015. The English explanations and stories written down in this booklet, isn’t always without any mistake. Our schools are lower vocational schools and therefore some mistakes will be there. We didn’t want to correct the stories our students wrote, only there where it would be impossible to understand the stories. This booklet also contains DVD and CD parts which you can open on a DVD player to look at images and film parts and the CD in meant for the PC to have a look at the presentations and the dictionary we created. During the 2 years we had our project, all the partner schools and their students and teachers did their utmost to achieve the goals mentioned in the application form. One of the most important one is to get a wider perspective in differences in culture, history, way of living and acceptance and respect those differences throughout Europe and especially between the participating countries. We do believe we did achieve these goals, because we experienced friendships between pupils and teachers, lasting a lot longer that only in the two years we worked together. Differences disappeared in the two years we worked together and an attitude of acceptance was growing in a mutual friendship between students and colleagues from all the participating schools. We are lucky we were a part of this beautiful story and proud we could add all that we felt was necessary to achieve our goals. Participating schools: I.E.S. San Matías – La Laguna – Tenerife O.S.G. They wanted to conquer the island. They fought against the aboriginal inhabitants, called Guanches. One of their Mencey or leader-kings, was Beneharo. The Spaniards promised that they only wanted to build a castle to provide water and food for the Spanish ships. They wanted peace. Beneharo accepted this agreement. The conquerors broke this agreement because many Guanches were made slaves. Beneharo, Mencey of Anaga –one of the kingdoms of the island- fought against the invaders, and they had to run away. They defeated the Spanish Army using javelins, called Banots, round, polished stones, spears and maces. Beneharo was sent to the mainland to meet the King and Queen of Spain. He went back to the island years later. According to a legend, the Spanish soldiers sacked Taganana, a peasants village in Anaga. When they came back they had to fight against Beneharo. The Guanches were defeated. When he saw that he was alone, he threw himself into the void from a hill so the soldiers didn’t catch him alive. Although he didn’t die, he went mad when he saw how his people were made slaves Images of Beneharo 7 Kingdoms of Tenerife before the Conquest LA CANTATA DEL MENCEY LOCO The following lines are part of the song which tells how Beneharo tried to kill himself when he understands that his future is slavery. ¡Achamaaaaaannnn! • Speed Skating Season Comes to a Close with Novelty in Thialf
March 5, 2020 Heerenveen, Netherlands Speed Skating Season comes to a close with novelty in Thialf With all major Championships done and four World Champions crowned last week in the stunning Viking Ship oval in Hamar, this weekend is the last chance to grab a title at the ISU World Cup Speed Skating Final. Heerenveen (NED) is gearing up for the Speed Skating season's grand finale. At the ISU Wold Cup Speed Skating Final in the famous Thialf Stadium, the twelve most consistent performers per distance throughout the season, will get a chance to seal their 2019/20 campaign with an overall ISU World Cup Speed Skating title. After five previous World Cup events, skaters will race for double points in the Final. To conclude the season, the tournament in Heerenveen features a demonstration event: the Mixed Gender Relay on Sunday. Ladies' 500m: Kodaira in pole position Vanessa Herzog (AUT) won the 500m ISU World Cup Speed Skating the past two seasons, but the Austrian never really managed to overcome a disastrous start to the season this year. After getting disqualified at the first ISU World Cup Speed Skating in Minsk, she did not manage to win a single 500m race this World Cup Speed Skating season and she lost her ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating title to Nao Kodaira (JPN) in Salt Lake City. The Japanese Olympic 500m champion tops the ISU World Cup Speed Skating ranking going into the final, but she's only 20 points ahead of Angelina Golikova (RUS), who leads the Russian Ladies' Sprint troika with Olga Fatkulina and Daria Kachanova (RUS) in third and fourth place.

  • Fresh Faces in Shortened ISU World Cup Speed Skating Series
January 20, 2021 Heerenveen, the Netherlands Fresh faces in shortened ISU World Cup Speed Skating Series The condensed International Speed Skating season in the Heerenveen Hub resumes with the first of two ISU World Cup Speed Skating events on Friday 22 January. After the ISU European Speed Skating Championships last weekend, this will be the first chance for Skaters from the other continents to see how they stand at an International level. The 2020/21 ISU World Cup Speed Skating series, which comprises of two events in Thialf in back-to-back weekends, will also serve as one of the qualifying events for quota places at the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships 2021 in February. Different mindset Last weekend the best European Skaters battled for the Allround and Sprint crowns, which are overall titles adding up the results of four distances in a single weekend. At the ISU World Cup Speed Skating events, the Skaters race for Single Distances honors. That requires a completely different mindset. Winning the Allround title, Antoinette de Jong (NED) proved to be the most complete Skater in the Ladies’ field, but she really struggled in the 3000m. “The 3000m in an Allround tournament is always more difficult (than in Single Distances format), and I always have difficulties,” she commented. “Maybe it’s because I’m just too focused on the sprinting legs. Switching to the 3000m I just did not have the right feeling.” Fresh legs When De Jong starts in Sunday’s 3000m at the ISU World Cup Speed Skating, she’ll have fresh legs and having skated the track record in this distance in December, she’ll be one of the favorites but the Ladies’ long distance field is very competitive.
