www.hexaware.com InBag & Home-Printed Bag Tag As an improvement to IATA’s Baggage Improvement Plan (BIP), IATA InBag was introduced in 2013. InBag is a complex long-term baggage program which aims not only to target current 1% of worldwide mishandled baggage but also to improve efficiency of handling other 99% of bags, as well as to introduce baggage as a product. While self-service check-in is massively offered to passengers by , baggage check-in is still a pain area for airlines, and the passengers. Passengers having checked-in via a self-service channel still have to stand in long queues only to drop their bag. Allowing them to arrive at the , tagged up and ready to go is essential in improving the passenger experience. As part of InBag, “Home-Printed Bag Tag” project addresses this issue by allowing passengers to print and apply tags for their baggage themselves and offers a dedicated touch point for baggage acceptance only. With passengers interested in taking more control of their journey and baggage, they are keen to adapt technology to overcome the stress of journey, particularly where it is intuitive and offers convenience. According to SITA baggage report, around the world, 68% of the passengers are interested in self-printed bag tag and self-service bag drop.By end of 2015, 79 % of airports and 80 % of the airlines are expected to offer home-printed bag tag printing to improve passenger experience.Iberia, Qatar airways, , Air France (domestic) & Alaska airlines have already implemented the home-printed bag tags.

Our Solution: Hexaware’s H-Tag – Print, Tag, Travel H-Tag is a solution offering from Hexaware to this specific baggage identification process in departure control system domain. Hexaware’s initiative H-Tag is a plug and play product for home bag tag generation compatible with any existing Internet check-in application. With very little customisa- tions needed at check-in system, H-Tag seamlessly integrates and provides the needful home baggage tag generation business solution. The check-in system can then consume the solution in form of a library or a web service. The solution expects a prerequisites set of data, needed to gather information related with passenger baggage [example – passenger name, flight details, count of baggage, starting bag tag range number, etc…]. The outcome of this is a streamed PDF presentation form of the locally generated baggage tags containing the passenger baggage details in the standard IATA format. The PDF layout can then be printed by the passenger at their own convenience.

Application Overview H-Tag is built and made available in following technical frameworks to support easier modifications for modern passenger check-in application customisations: • Microsoft .Net Framework • Java platform With these two popular application runtime environments, H-Tag supports installation options in these variants: As a Library Distribution: For easier agile based plug and play solution integration, H-Tag is built and made available as a DLLs for check-in applica- tions built on .Net Framework and as a Java Archive (JAR) for check-in applications built on Java. As a Localised Web Service: For check-in products with web service architecture and with a perspective of self-hosted environments,H-Tag is built as a consumable web service supporting both REST/SOAP interfaces. As a Centralised/Hosted Web Service: For check-in products with web service architecture and with adependency of an external hosting environ- ment, H-Tag is built as a consumable web service supporting both REST/SOAP interfaces.

Suitability As a Library Distribution: With this model, Airlines/Airports/Ground Handlers equipped with an in-house IT team who already maintain the departure control system inclusive of the internet check-in application can quickly integrate H-Tag’s plug and play library and adapt to the industry's emerging home baggage tags standard in an efficient way. In this solution model, the library becomes part of the entire hosted internet check-in application space.

As a Localised Web Service: For internet check-in applications that hold restrictions on architecture and strictly adhere to web service model, H-Tag as a web service suits the need. Since it is available in both IIS and Apache Tomcat, internet check-in applications which are already hosted in these environments can be modified to include another web service which serves the requirement of home baggage tags generation.

Centralised/Hosted Web Service: For solutions where IT process is unavailable in-house, and if there is a dependency on external solution hosting for the Internet check-In solution, H-Tag can be externally hosted and will serve the business need in a model similar to solution offering as a localised web service. H-Tag Process Flow

• Implementation of home bag tags can currently be associated with the internet check-in application channel. • Based on the application logic, a flow can be easily appended to interact with the passenger, get the necessary baggage details (baggage count), and present the passenger with baggage policies for the carrier. • Generate bag tag numbers; compile the information as per the IATA format onto a PDF. • After arriving at the airport the passenger can obtain a plastic tag holder for the folded bag tag and tie the holder around the baggage handle as shown in image. • The BSMs [Baggage Sortation Message] can be generated either upon scanning the bags at baggage drop off or it can be pre-generated during check-in onto a dynamic pool to be maintained by the DCS or BSM handling system and then picked upon scanning. • Bag tags which are generated but not brought during travel can be considered inactive baggage and ignored / handled accordingly.

Leverage the benefits of ‘H-Tag’:

• Provide the merits of reduction in cost spent on paper and BTP printing machines in airport premises. • Reduce the time frame per passenger with bags at the check-in desks, thus reducing rush time during peak traffic seasons. • Association of home baggage tags for passenger operations can lead to self-baggage-drop counters. Thus, it can eventually reduce the number of agentsneeded for passenger operations related with baggage handling. • A plug and play solution for Airlines / Ground handlers to rapidly adapt today’s approved home baggage tag solution. • Multi- format support - i.e. can be available as a library or as a web service which provide the convenience of integration to any technical form of a Departure Control System. • Seamless Integration - With minor changes required at the Departure Control system side, H-Tag can seamlessly integrate into back-office passenger operations and provide a small footprint database for tracking the usage of this solution. • This smalltime database also is very effective when multi carrier operators like Ground Handlers / Airports adapt H-Tag as a home baggage tag solution as it can be used for reporting / billing per carrier, etc. BENEFITS SNAPSHOT
