What’s Up Doc?

JUNE/JULY/AUGUST,2007

Message From The CEO

▀ Due to Richard’s well deserved vacation, Jamie Lasher, President of The Dr. Vinyl Doctors Touch, will be writing the front page article this time. Interior Repair IT’S A GREAT TIME TO BE A DOC! News

That’s right, it’s a great time to be part of the Dr. Vinyl/Doctors Touch family! We have a tremendous amount of momentum throughout the company. As myself and various members from our corporate staff have been able to get out and visit franchise locations throughout the country, I am absolutely pleased by the response we have received from your customers in the field! One of the main compliments we receive is how dependable our franchise owners and their associates are and how the quality of our work stands above all of the competitors. I can’t stress ▀ enough how important DEPENDABILITY, QUALITY OF REPAIRS, SPEED OF SERVICE, and PROFESIONALISM are in the reconditioning business! By the Dr. Vinyl feedback we are getting from our customers in the field it looks as though many of International our successful franchise owners and associates feel the same way. News Talk with your customers at the car dealerships, marinas, rental car companies, restaurants, or wherever you’re currently doing business, or would like to be doing business, and ask them what they expect from their vendors? The answer may sur- prise you; most vendors think that it’s being the lowest priced. Nine times out of ten that is not the main thing your customers are looking for! They’re looking for— you guessed it, dependability; quality; speed of service and professionalism. Please understand that there is a difference between being the cheapest in town and being priced competitively. If all you have to sell is price, you will be out of busi- ▀ ness before you know it! If you take the time to communicate to your potential customers, the difference between our service and who they are currently using, Doctor’s Touch you will be amazed with the results. If you need help communicating and building News relationships with your customers, I encourage you to call our corporate office and ask to speak with our Sales and Marketing Director, Brian Becker. The words PLAN and SUCCESS go hand-in- hand. You have to PLAN FOR SUCCESS! That is what our most successful franchise owners have in common; all of them have a plan.

Speaking of Brian Becker, he was instrumental in securing Dr. Vinyl and The Doctors Touch a spot on, can you believe it, nation- wide television! Brian worked very hard to get all of us associated with this great company an opportunity to tell our story to a na- tional television audience. Keep on reading for details on this exciting, first ever opportunity for our company.

As you read through this edition, I want you to look at the section entitled Doctors Touch Top Ten Techs. You will find that many of the same techs are in the top ten every month. You will also see that many of them work for the same franchise owner. If you know these associates or franchise owners, I encourage you to give them a call and first congratulate them on their success and then ask them how they do it? I’ll bet that dependability, quality, speed, professionalism, relationships and getting out of bed every morning and getting after it every day will make their way into your conversation. Congratulations to all of the technicians and the franchise owners that made in our top ten.

I want to give a mention to Dave Lyons the Master Franchise in Ireland, Dave has added three Doctors Touch franchises and two Dr. Vinyl franchises in Ireland this year. For such a small country, that is an amazing feat.

Last, but certainly not least, we want to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Richard Funk. Richard was a long time franchise owner in Kansas City and Topeka, KS who recently passed away. He will always be remembered as an incredible person and a model franchise owner. I speak for everyone when I say it was an honor to have Richard on our team.

Jamie Lasher, President The Doctors Touch

Lights Camera …. Action!!

Mark your schedules to get a chance to see Dr. Vinyl and The Doctors Touch featured on a national cable television channel. Two months ago we were approached by an independent production company that airs programs on both The Travel Channel as well as The Oxygen Channel. They were interested in featuring Dr. Vinyl & The Doctors Touch on one of their programs called “Her Domain”. As some of you know, The Oxygen Channel is geared toward the busy working woman. This program focuses on companies that can make her life more convenient.

The show “Her Domain” is a half hour program that features top companies who build their name and reputation on products and services that make convenience to the customer their number one goal. They were very interested in the concepts of Dr. Vinyl (Saving Time & Money) & The Doctors Touch (Express Service, Superior Quality and Incredible Value). After the production team evaluated other companies in our industry, the decision was made to feature The Dr. Vinyl Group.

Typically, the show features between five and seven of the best companies found in their industry. Each feature lasts between two and four minutes showing the types of services we offer and some history on how we’ve gotten to where we are. It is a lot of infor- mation to try and squeeze into a short amount of time, but I am very pleased as to how it has turned out. The final video and all the footage taken that day is ours to use in future marketing materials for our websites as well as advertisements.

I want to thank Buster, Sandy, Jamie and Richard with their help from corporate. Special thanks goes out to Trever Tarkington (Dr. Vinyl of Greater Des Moines) and Dave Huskey (The Doctors Touch of Greater Des Moines) for holding up their guys on a gor- geous summer day in order to get some shots of them doing what they do best.

Lastly, I want to thank every one of our Dr. Vinyl and The Doctors Touch associates out there for providing a service that never ceases to WOW the customers. Keep up the good work and tune into The Oxygen Channel on September 7 for the debut. The show will be repeated at least three times during September. The program airs traditionally in the morning, but we are still waiting to hear the exact time slot for the episode. Also, anyone who would want to watch the rough first cut of the video can pull up Google, click video, and type in “Dr. Vinyl Her Domain”. We are still making a couple of changes to it prior to airing, but it will give you a chance to get an early sneak peak.

I am looking forward to hearing your feedback and thanks again for all that you do!!!

Congratulations Henry, Mo and Jason!

On Right: The same evening as the certificate awards, we celebrated with a 40th Birthday party for Jochen Klausner (he runs the Car- CareCenter in the city of Salzburg). It has been our pleasure to have a visit from two lovely young ladies from Austria here at the U.S. headquar- ters during the month of July. We had a special occasion to celebrate with chocolate cake here in the office on July 16. Magdalena had her 16th birthday on Sunday, July 15. Magdalena is the daughter of Hans Mayr. These two girls came to the U.S. with Richard Reinders, and spent the entire month of July here. They helped out at headquarters and their work was greatly appreciated.

In the first picture above with Magdalena (on left), is her good friend Maria Rohrmoser (on right), who is also 16 years old. Happy Birthday Magdalena!

How are Jason Healy and Henry Quinn , Dr. Vinyl of Cork, Ireland, doing since beginning their new Franchise business? We have already received a letter from Jason and Henry, and it looks like things are get- ting off to a great start.

“Things are looking up. We got a new client with a Nissan, Mitsubishi, Hyundai & Kia dealership in Cork. Have spent three days there already. We did one special job … the owners had a Range Rover. The seats and steering wheel were worn and paint was coming off the leather seats which is strange for a jeep worth €120,000 new. This jeep is now worth €80,000, which was a challenge for me, but I did it anyway. The seats & steering wheel now look NEW !!!!!!!. The owner was well impressed and was even showing the work I did to customers coming to buy cars. I have done leather seats, dashboards, cig burns on velour, de-foggers, and he is really pleased with the standard of work we provide. There is a lot more work there to do, so with a bit of luck we are off to a good start. Just thought we would share this news with you as this has done our confidence the world of good. Hope to show Max around when he comes to Cork. Also, we got Paul into this dealer as well doing exterior work..”

Jason Healy and Henry Quinn, Dr. Vinyl of Cork, Ireland Best Wishes! Miriam Holt, Associate of Justin & Diane Holt, Dr. Vinyl of Salt Lake, UT, recently wed David Toliver. We wish Miriam and David the very best in their marriage. As well as working for Dr. Vinyl of Salt Lake, Miriam is the daughter of Justin and Diane Holt.

Above left: Olaf Hämmerle from Austria (Vorarlberg) completed PDR training with Max Gruber in July. In June 2007, Olaf had completed the Interior Training, He plans to be back for more training in December or January when he will do the Training in PTU. He be an "all around" Doctor. Congratulations Olaf!

Above right: Edwin Monnee, Dr. Vinyl Tilburg (Netherlands) began 2002 with Interior and Paint touch up (PTU). During July 2007, he did the training for PDR. In the near future he will open a Car Care Center with his wife (Mirijam Monnee - Interior Technician since June 2006). Congratulations Edwin!

Wesley Sprandlin (below on the right), from Kansas City, came to Austria to help us with dents after a few hail- storms here. Thanks Wesley. SUMMER FUN News from the Training Room By Katharina Rainer

Most of us are finding ourselves in the midst of THE HOTTEST time of the year. Soaring temperatures are spreading throughout most parts of the country – leaving Dr. Vinyl’s with sunburns and lots of sweat!

Hydration is the most crucial part of working outdoors when we are trying to make money in temperatures that are in the triple digits! Even if you are not thirsty - drinking plenty of water AND sport drinks like Gatorade is excep- tionally important. Eat small meals and eat more often. Avoid foods that are high in protein, that increase meta- bolic heat. Also, taking breaks to go into a air conditioned room is important; doing so will allow your body to cool down.

Unfortunately, we have many more things to take care of besides ourselves. We carry a lot of heat and air cure products in our vans. A Soft Flex Compound jar accidentally left open, just for a little while, will have a surprise waiting for you when you return, GUARANTEED! The top layer will have setup and will no longer be useable. Keep containers tightly closed, preferably in a cooler with ice packs. Simply place ice packs in freezer overnight and they will help a lot to keep your products cool. It is also in your best interest to purchase smaller containers in order to keep the product from curing in the jar. Most heat and air dry fillers are available in 2 oz AND 4 oz. The cooler is also a great place for your chill bar. Having two chill bars would be very sufficient during extremely hot temperatures.

Make sure to also move any car that is in need of a windshield repair in to the shade or indoors if possible. When turning the air on to cool the glass, make sure not to place setting below 74 degrees Fahrenheit. The windshield could cool too much on the bottom which puts the glass at greater risk of cracking. Apply alcohol to the entire glass, which has a cooling effect. Also place a white sheet on the windshield to improve heat reflection.

Last but not least, keep your hairdryer close when spraying lacquer in high humidity to prevent ‘blushing’. Blush- ing is when a just sprayed coating is turning milky grey or white as it is drying.

So get yourself some sunscreen, a cooler and plenty of fluids to make it through this summer.

Recognizing Heat Exhaustion Heat exhaustion is a milder form of heat-related illness that can develop after several days of exposure to high temperatures and inadequate or unbalanced replacement of fluids. Those most prone to heat exhaustion are elderly people, people with high blood pressure, and people working or exercising in a hot environment.

Recognizing Heat Exhaustion

Warning signs of heat exhaustion include: □ heavy sweating □ paleness □ muscle cramps □ tiredness □ weakness □ dizziness □ headache □ nausea or vomiting □ fainting Continued on next page... Continued

The skin may be cool and moist. The victim's pulse rate will be fast and weak, and breathing will be fast and shallow. If heat exhaustion is untreated, it may progress to heat stroke. Seek medical attention immediately if symptoms are severe, or the victim has heart problems or high blood pressure. Otherwise, help the victim to cool off, and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen or last longer than 1 hour.

What to Do

Cooling measures that may be effective include: □ cool, non-alcoholic beverages, as directed by your physician □ rest □ cool shower, bath, or sponge bath □ an air-conditioned environment □ Lightweight clothing

Customer service is an integral part of our job and should not be seen as an extension of it. A company’s most vital asset is its cus- tomers. Without them, we would not and could not exist in business. When you satisfy your customers, they not only help you grow by continuing to do business with you, but recommend you to friends and associates. The practice of customer service should be as present on the show floor as it is in any other sales environment.

The Ten Commandments of Customer Service By Susan Friedmann, CSP

1. Know who is boss. You are in business to service customer needs, and you can only do that if you know what it is your custom- ers want. When you truly listen to your customers, they let you know what they want and how you can provide good service. Never forget that the customer pays our salary and makes your job possible.

2. Be a good listener. Take the time to identify customer needs by asking questions and concentrating on what the customer is really saying. Listen to their words, tone of voice, body language, and most importantly, how they feel. Beware of making as- sumptions - thinking you intuitively know what the customer wants. Do you know what three things are most important to your customer?

Effective listening and undivided attention are particularly important on the show-room floor where there is a great danger of preoccupation - looking around to see to whom else we could be selling to.

3. Identify and anticipate needs. Customers don't buy products or services. They buy good feelings and solutions to problems. Most customer needs are emotional rather than logical. The more you know your customers, the better you become at anticipating their needs. Communicate regularly so that you are aware of problems or upcoming needs.

4. Make customers feel important and appreciated. Treat them as individuals. Always use their name and find ways to compliment them, but be sincere. People value sincerity. It creates good feeling and trust. Think about ways to generate good feelings about doing business with you. Customers are very sensitive and know whether or not you really care about them. Thank them every time you get a chance. On the show-room floor be sure that your body language conveys sincerity. Your words and actions should be congruent.

5. Help customers understand your systems. Your organization may have the world's best systems for getting things done, but if customers don't understand them, they can get confused, impatient and angry. Take time to explain how your systems work and how they simplify transactions. Be careful that your systems don't reduce the human element of your organization.

6. Appreciate the power of "Yes". Always look for ways to help your customers. When they have a request (as long as it is reason- able) tell them that you can do it. Figure out how afterwards. Look for ways to make doing business with you easy. Always do what you say you are going to do.

7. Know how to apologize. When something goes wrong, apologize. It's easy and customers like it. The customer may not always be right, but the customer must always win. Deal with problems immediately and let customers know what you have done. Make it simple for customers to complain. Value their complaints. As much as we dislike it, it gives us an opportunity to improve. Even if customers are having a bad day, go out of your way to make them feel comfortable.

8. Give more than expected. Since the future of all companies lies in keeping customers happy, think of ways to elevate yourself above the competition. Consider the following:

* What can you give customers that they cannot get elsewhere? * What can you do to follow-up and thank people even when they don't buy? * What can you give customers that is totally unexpected?

9. Get regular feedback. Encourage and welcome suggestions about how you could improve. There are several ways in which you can find out what customers think and feel about your services.

* Listen carefully to what they say. * Check back regularly to see how things are going. * Provide a method that invites constructive criticism, comments and suggestions.

10. Treat employees well. Employees are your internal customers and need a regular dose of appreciation. Thank them and find ways to let them know how important they are. Treat your employees with respect and chances are they will have a higher re- gard for customers. Appreciation stems from the top. Treating customers and employees well is equally important.

SXA840 AEROSOL BLENDER

As you know, we currently use PPG DX 840 to blend our clear coat. It is the only blender that we have found that will actually give you a “melted-in, invisible blend”! The only complaint we have with 840 is that it comes in quarts & gallons, and you either have to dump out your clear really fast and dump the blender in your gun when it comes time to blend. Or you could have a complete separate gun with blender in it. That seemed to work good until PPG said that the blender is basically useless if it sits in the gun for a couple of hours. Upol and sev- eral other companies have aerosol blender, but we’ve R&D’d them all and none of them work nearly as good as 840. PPG has come out with an aerosol blender that actually works! This product is amazing. Part #SXA840 blending solvent seems to be the real deal, an aerosol blender that can actually burn in the edge.

This product is now in stock and ready for shipment for $8.00* per 15oz can. Please contact the Parts Depart- ment and ask for part number SXA840.

Thank you,

Jamie Lasher Buzz McClain Tony Rende

FROM THE PAINT ZONE

Greetings from the road! Yes, I have been on the road visiting some of you at your territory. The First stop was Minnesota. We had a great time with these owners. Thanks so much for your hospitality.

Next stop on the road was Midland, Texas! Yes that’s right, Texas. We went there to visit with Shawn Flesher and his wife, Betty. Man-oh-man, what a busy man Shawn is!! Shawn has a great customer base, and it takes a lot of organizing to keep it all straight. That’s where Betty comes in. What a great team, doing whatever it takes to get it all done. Thanks to both of you for a wonderful visit to beautiful West Texas.

Next on the trip was a short drive to Indianapolis to visit with most of the Doctors Touch Techs in Curt and Janet Pribble’s territory. Wow, what a fantastic group of people. Everyone was so glad that we came to visit. I was very im- pressed with the whole organization. Thanks very much to Curt and Janet for allowing me to come down and visit with all of their painters.

Well, that was all I had time for in May. Then it was back to K.C. and another training class for June. If you would like to have me come and visit your area, or if you would like to come and visit us at Headquarters, just give Jamie Lasher or me, Buzz McClain, a call.

So until next time remember, it’s good to be fast but its better to be good! Thanks to all of you and all that you do for the Doctors Touch and the Doctor Vinyl group.

FROM THE PAINT ZONE

Hello again from the road. We had a great June training class and were able to add two new paint repair techs to Curt and Janet Pribble’s team. Thanks to Curt and Janet for sending a couple of great guys!

Then I was off to visit Steve Hawkins in Cookville, Tennessee. Steve and the whole Hawkins team were very easy to work with. Thanks for everything.

Next I was off to Nashville to Tony Barnett and his team. We had to deal with a little rain, but that didn’t slow Juan down a bit. We had a good day, and I think I was able to help them get a little better and faster. Thanks Tony, for all of your help.

Then I headed north to Louisville, Kentucky to pay a visit to Bill and Jeff Hoover. What a great team of paint techs! I was able to work with Jeff all day on Thursday and meet the rest of the team on Friday. These guys work together like a well oiled machine. Thanks to Jeff and his team for a great visit.

Next I was off to Las Vegas for the Dr. Vinyl/ Doctors Touch Southwest Mini Convention on July 21st. We had a real good turn out, and I think everyone was able to come away with something to help them increase the bottom line.

Then I was off to Springfield, Missouri to spend a little time with Raymond Scott and his team of techs. David Ingle is the paint repair tech in Raymond’s group and does a terrific job. I think I was able to give David and Raymond some ideas to help them do better and make some more money.

Next it was on the road to Rob Robison in the Quad Cities. Rob’s paint tech is Donnell Marshall. Donnell and I were able to spend some time working on getting a little more organized and improve on his skills as a top notch paint repair tech. Thanks to Rob and his whole Quad Cities team for making me feel at home.

Speaking of home, it was time to head home, but not before stopping in Iowa City to pay a visit to Justin Schwab and his team of techs.

Then it was on to Des Moines, Iowa to visit with all of our friends at Dave Huskey’s service center. Thanks Dave, for taking time out of your day to bring me up to date on all that is going on in Des Moines, Iowa.

Then I was on the road to Kansas City and home again. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Doctors Touch teams that do what you do to make us the best mobile paint repair company in the world. So until next time remember it’s good be fast, but it’s better to be good!!

BEST WISHES
