Biblioteca Universitaria, 2015 THE BUBIÓN PLAN THE SPANISH NETWORK OR BIOSPHERE RESERVES This documem is pan of a series of projects called the Bubión Plan which has been underway since 1994. This plan gets its name from the alpujarreñan town of Bubión (Granada), in the Sierra evada Biosphere Reser\"e. hecause it was here that Spanish RESERVA technicians met in April of 199'"+ in orcler to prepare it. The plan is a response to the DE LA BIOSFERA commitmem on behalf of the responsible institutions to provide a backbone for the joint effort of introducing the Spanish reserves al the lnternational Conference on Biosphere Reserves, to take place in Seville in March of 1995 uncler the auspices of NESCO. The Bubión Plan has taken shape in the form of five basic studies, which are pre­ sented in three technical repons ancl a \"ariety of material for dissemination and exhi­ bits. The Spanish Commiuee of the MaB program has m·erseen the coordination of team work since its onset, seeking out suppon from public and prívate entities to meet re­ source clemancls, requesting technical cooperation from ~everal people ancl establis­ hing the different work teams. Printed in Spain PRESENTATION This report is one of the studies carried out by the Spanish Network of Biosphere Reserves in order to take an in-depth look at the work underta­ ken to date in the Biosphere Reserves in Spain. With this aim, the report describes and analyzes the present status of the Network in terms of the objectives laid out in the Action Plan for Biosphere Reserves. This Action Plan, created in 1984, is expected to be modified at the upcoming Inter­ national Conference on Biosphere Reserves in Seville and therefore this was considered an opportune moment to review the results of the past ten years. This report is the second with a similar objective- the first was publi­ shed under the title "The State of the Biosphere Reserves-1990"-. It repre­ sents a second step in the monitoring of the dynamic and continuous de­ velopment of each of the biosphere reserves in Spain and of the network as a whole. © Del documento, los autores. Conducting long-term hazard assessment in active volcanic areas is of primordial importance 14 for land-use planning and to define emergency plans able to be applied in case of a crisis. Definition of 15 scenario hazard maps helps to mitigate the consequences of future eruptions by anticipating to the events 16 that may occur. Lanzarote is an active volcanic island that has hosted the largest (>1.5 km3 DRE) and 17 longest (6 years) eruption, the Timanfaya eruption (1730-36), on the Canary Islands in historical times 18 (last 600 years). This eruption brought severe economic losses and forced local people to migrate. In spite 19 of all these facts, no comprehensive hazard assessment neither hazard maps have been developed for the 20 island. In this work, we present an integrated long-term volcanic hazard evaluation using a systematic 21 methodology that includes spatial analysis and simulations of the most probable expected eruptive scenar- 22 ios. 23 24 1 Introduction 25 26 Active volcanic areas require conducting long-term hazard assessment in order to ensure a rational land 27 planning and to elaborate precise emergency plans that can be applied in case of a crisis.

    International Journal of Odonatology, 2016 Vol. 19, No. 3, 107–124, http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/13887890.2016.1172991 Dragonflies (Insecta: Odonata) as indicators of habitat quality in Mediterranean streams and rivers in the province of Barcelona (Catalonia, Iberian Peninsula) Ricard Martín∗ and Xavier Maynou Catalan Odonata Study Group, Institució Catalana d’Història Natural, Barcelona, Spain (Received 7 November 2015; final version received 24 March 2016) In a field study carried out in 2011 and 2014 adult dragonflies were identified as a rapid and easy-to-use means of assessing habitat quality and biological integrity of Mediterranean streams and rivers in the province of Barcelona (Region Catalonia, Iberian Peninsula). The study included sampling sites from five different river catchments: Besòs, Foix, Llobregat, Ter and Tordera. Multivariate statistical procedures and indicator species analysis were used to investigate the relationship between river ecological status, study sites and dragonfly species or species assemblages’ occurrence. The dragonfly association identified with western Mediterranean permanent streams, i.e. Cordulegaster boltonii, Boyeria irene, Onychogom- phus uncatus and Calopteryx virgo meridionalis, was found only at the sites with the highest status. All these taxa were identified as indicator species of sites with the best scores for the macroinvertebrate based IBMWP index and for the combined IASPT index, which reflects the sensitivity of the macroinvertebrate families present to environmental changes; besides, B. irene and C. virgo meridionalis alsoprovedtobe indicator species of the riparian forest quality index and C. boltonii of the more inclusive ECOSTRIMED, which assesses the overall conservation status of the riverine habitats. The information obtained on habi- tat preferences and indicator value showed that adults of these taxa may constitute a valuable tool for preliminary or complementary cost-effective monitoring of river status and restoration practices as part of a broader set of indices reflecting biodiversity and ecosystem integrity.

La metodología que se ha empleado se ha aplicado a los espacios naturales que se contemplan dentro del ámbito de los tres marcos jurídicos que establece la Ley 42/2007, de 13 de diciembre, del Patrimonio Natural y de la Biodiversidad. Estos son los siguientes: a) Espacios protegidos por el Estado español o por sus Comunidades Autónomas; b) Espacios protegidos de la Red Natura 2000 y c) Áreas prote- gidas por instrumentos internacionales. Dentro de la primera tipología se analizan: los Parques Naturales, las Reservas Naturales, los Monumentos Naturales y los Paisajes Protegidos.
