Maria Mercedes Abalos Vice President / President Elect John Benjamin has been a member of Southside Rotary since 1982. He has served our Club as President, Secretary, Director, and Chairman of the Southside Rotary Foundation. When John was Kathy Boyer President, Southside Rotary was awarded # 1 club in District 6111, Secretary the largest Rotary District in the world at that time. He has been awarded RI’s Paul Harris Fellow seven times and Southside’s Bill Scott J. Gaffen Crews Community Service Award twice. Public Relations Chair John successfully chaired two major community development projects for Southside Rotary. Dolly Dixon Attendance Secretary - The Langenheim Park Murrah Memorial Children’s Playground earned our club the Tulsa Park Department Council Oaks Award. Michelle Pierce Rotary Foundation Chair - Biscuit Acres Dog Park at Hunter Park was named the # 24th “Best Dog Parks” out of 1,500 dog parks in the U.S by Bob Sullivan Dog Fancy Magazine and one of the top five dog parks by Director-at-Large / The NBC-TV show “The List”. John is Founder of the Biscuit Bellmon Awards Chair Acres Volunteer Association, which provides ongoing fundraising and maintenance for the park. David Cobb Vocational Service Chair Both projects have raised some $200,000 in community donations toward project completion, maintenance, and restoration. John is co-founder of Southside's major fund raising awards event: Jens Quilitzsch International Service the Henry Bellmon Sustainability Awards Program. He has served Chair on its steering committee for six years.

Patrick Murphy John is retired after spending over 40 years in financial marketing Club Service and sales. Before he retired, he was Area Sales Manager for Capital One Auto Finance, a Division of Capital One Financial. Prior Tammy R Stokes to joining Capital One, he was Senior Vice President – Marketing Youth Services Chair for Tulsa’s former Western National Bank. Since 1976, John has served in leadership positions with over 20 Tulsa non-profit, boards, commissions, and civic organizations. He Jonathan Cox Tulsa non-profit, boards, commissions, and civic organizations. He iPast President served the Tulsa City Council from 1990-1996 and was chairman in 1995. He co-founded the Special Olympics in 1969. John and his wife Laura have been married 29 years. James Pepper Henry is the Executive Director of Oklahoma’s premier art, history, and culture museum, the Gilcrease Museum. Jim started this position in late March and is currently working on a strategic planning initiative that will elevate the profile of the Gilcrease. Most recently, Jim was the Director and CEO of the Heard Museum in Phoenix. He developed programming and exhibitions that significantly increased visitorship and membership. He was the first enrolled Native American to be at the helm of the 83-year old institution. Prior to the Heard, Jim was Director and CEO of the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center, Alaska’s art, history, and science institution. Recently, he oversaw the completion of the Museum’s $110 million, 80,000 square foot expansion, including the debut of the new Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center exhibition hall and the new Imaginarium Discovery Center. Jim is a former Associate Director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian where, for nearly ten years, he managed a wide variety of Native American community-oriented programs, services, and traveling exhibitions. Jim played a pivotal role in the establishment and launch of the American Indian museum on the National Mall in Washington, DC, that opened to the public in 2004. Previously, Jim served as the founding Director of the Kanza Museum in Kaw City, Oklahoma; Interim Curator of American Indian Art at the Portland Art Museum and Gallery Director at the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center in Portland, Oregon; and Gallery Director for the Institute of Alaska Native Arts in Fairbanks, Alaska. Jim is a member of the Kaw Nation of Oklahoma and Creek Nation. He is co-founder and President of the Kanza Ilóshka Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the perpetuation of the cultural life-ways and traditions of the Kaw people. Jim is also an active Native American traditional dancer and is co-founder of the Kaw Nation Traditional Dance Society. He is a graduate of the University of Oregon and a recipient of the University’s prestigious Council for Minority Education Leadership Award. He is also a graduate of the Museum Leadership Institute at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, California. Jim has contributed essays to various publications including Stewards of the Sacred, co-published by the American Association of Museums and Harvard University, and; Native Universe: Voices of Indian America, co-published by the Smithsonian Institution and the National Geographic Society.

- Now is the time to let Bob Sullivan know if you have potential sponsors for the Bellmon Awards Gala! It is September 29 at Southern Hills! The Bellmon Awards Gala is our club's major fundraiser, and it allows us to fund to a variety of club projects. If you know of an individual or a company that should be a sponsor of the Henry Bellmon Sustainability Awards, please get with Bob Sullivan and let him know. He will help you know how to approach them and what materials you should provide. We are six away! Get your tickets now. Rotarians can purchase tickets for $150. That is $100 less than the $250 ticket for everyone else. ======SMILE…. SAY CHEESE! September is the month to update your Southside Club Picture in Dacdb. Gary Pollmiller will be taking pictures before our club meeting this month and Jonathan Cox will be taking pictures after the club meeting. Please let Gary and Jonathan know when you are at the meeting if you would like to have a photo taken. It will only take a few minutes to get a good "mug shot” of you.

On September 29th Jonathan is going to take a new Southside Rotary Club group picture. ======
