2.5. Diagnostic Notes The genus Melalgus can be distinguished by:

- Body length 7.0-21.0mm - Body clyindrical - Anterior legs very robust, their tibiae strongly notched on the inside at the base and with only one terminal spur inside - Second and third tarsal segments enlarged in the apical half - Pronotum sides flat or slightly concave - Elytra with ribs, ridges or teeth (except for M. confertus). There are 24 known species in this genus.
