Hawver's Capitol Report 2014 Elections: Kansas
Hawver’s Capitol Report 2014 Elections: Kansas House PRIMARY & GENERAL Candidate Guide June 8, 2014 (Updated July 12, 2014) Copyright 2014, Hawver News Company LLC Information on each district is broken down into time-saving bullet points; here is the key to those bullet points: The first bullet point is, of course, where the district is. The second is the incumbent and number of terms served. The third bullet is the 2012 breakdown of the district’s voters by party affiliation from the Secretary of State’s office. The fourth bullet is the AG 2010 race. We’re using that race because it probably tells more about the predilection of voters by House and Senate district than did the slam-dunk gubernatorial election. The AG race? Short-time incumbent Democrat Steve Six vs. State Sen. Derek Schmidt, R-Independence. Schmidt won the general election, but it’s interesting to look through how Six and Schmidt did in what constitutes each new district. The fifth is the result of 2012 elections. The sixth bullet is what was spent by the winner and loser on the race. The seventh bullet is the current breakdown of the party affiliation of voters in the district. The filed candidates and contact information are listed for each candidate. To make the document as user-friendly as possible, we’ve color-coded the heading on each district as follows (note: “Uncontested” and “Primary election only” refer to major party candidates, but 3rd party candidates, who aren’t on the primary ballot—although a few Libertarians have already filed for the general and are listed in this document—may be in some House general elections, including some listed here as so far uncontested and primary only): Uncontested: There are 35 House districts in which there is only one major party candidate—23 are Republicans and 12 are Democrats. -
