Consolation Game: Minnesota Duluth 5, Minnesota Stat 3 • Gabbie Hughes scored twice and Minnesota Duluth erased a 3-1 third period defi cit with four unanswered goals to down Minnesota State, 5-3, in the Minnesota Cup consolation game. • The Mavericks jumped out to a 2-0 lead on scores by Brittyn Fleming at 12:35 of the fi rst period and Anna Wilgren on the power play at 5:55 of the second. Hughes tallied a little over a minute later to cut the lead to 2-1, but McKenzie Sederberg found the back of the net for the Mavericks at 14:38 to up State’s lead to 3-1 after two periods. • Hughes cut the lead to 3-2 50 seconds into the third period with her second goal of the night. • The top-ranked Badgers begin a tough four-game stretch with a series at No. 7 Ohio State this weekend. Puck drop on Friday at the OSU Ice Rink is set for 5 p.m. CT while the series wraps up on Saturday with a 2 p.m. CT contest. Following its road series at OSU, the Badgers head north to the Twin Cities to take on No. 2 Minnesota Jan. 18-19. • UW has been idle since a road sweep of St. Cloud State on Dec. 7-8, defeating the Huskies 8-2 in the opener before earning a 3-1 win in the series fi nale. Seventeen different Badgers registered a point in the sweep while eight different Badgers scored a goal. • UW begins this weekend on a 11-game winning streak, the second- longest active streak in the country. During the run that started on Oct. 28, Wisconsin has outscored its opponents 47-10 while posting three shutouts. • UW enters 2019 on fi re on the power play, scoring a power-play goal in each of its last fi ve games.
