Foreword EHF President
Dear handball friends,
Welcome to the play-offs of the DELO EHF Champions League 2020/21 season.
The curtain has fallen on the group phase and we are moving to the knockout phase of the competition. Since September when the season started, clubs have faced many challenges in the current pandemic situation but have managed to play most of their matches. With only a few matches having been postponed just underlines the hard work carried out by the clubs.
However, even with the best efforts from the clubs and the EHF, some of the matches could not be played over the past six months. In order to safeguard the rundown of Europe’s elite club competition in the fairest possible manner, the EHF has agreed to adapt the playing schedule for the DELO EHF Champions League.
With this adaptation, all eight clubs from both groups have proceeded to the knockout stage of the competition. With this we are providing a complete play-off with 16 teams then followed by the usual quarter-finals and DELO EHF FINAL4 2021.
Matches that could not be played have been assessed and the ranking in each group has been determined giving us eight interesting matchups. The teams here at this stage are now only six games away from being the champions.
Whoever qualifies from the play-offs deserves their place in the quarter-finals in April and lovers of the game all over Europe can be sure of seeing some fine examples of the beautiful sport we all love – handball.
The DELO EHF FINAL4 in Budapest on the weekend of 29 and 30 May 2021 is within sight now, but only four teams can qualify for this spectacular handball event and the play-offs are yet another test for those teams who are targeting the coveted trophy.
Yours in sport,
Michael Wiederer EHF President
