Game #1: Bloomsburg vs. Ashland September 1, 2011 Bloomsburg University Football Game Notes 5 THE HUSKY OFFENSE: Pat Carey was the key ingredient to the Huskies offense a year ago. He is an intelligent, unselfish player who the team believes in. He played hurt at the end of last season, but still maintained his poise. Carey finished with 2,026 yards passing and 24 touchdown throws and just 10 interceptions. Behind Carey will be senior Mike Wagner and Brady Knerr.

A year ago Franklyn Quiteh was a little-known third stringer before a series of events moved him into a starting role. Quiteh took the opportunity and went on to be named First Team All-American by several organizations and was the only running back in all of college football to gain more than 2,000 yards rushing last season. Quiteh is continuing to get better and wants to improve.

Behind Quiteh will be Eddie Mateo, a transfer from Stony Brook. Mateo had a great spring and fits the offense well. At fullback Matt Cox has emerged as a great blocker and runner who averaged 5.8 yards per carry last year.

Mark Daniels and Dylan Manni are both returning at tight end and have had a lot of experience in the Huskies system.

Leading the way at wide receiver is Kyle Fisher who caught 23 passes last year for a team-high 25.4 yards per reception, while Ryan Dickerson, who saw lots of action in the post-season, can make the big plays and gives the team a great deep threat. Others who should play key roles for the Huskies at wide receiver include Tyler Guise, who made 20 catches last year, along with Matt Marchioni, Glenn Hutton, Kyle Jackson and Ryan Stewart.

Three-year starter Daryl Kurtz at left tackle and second year starter Chris Steck at center. Both Kurtz and Steck were first team All-PSAC East last year. Along with that duo Brandon Allen also is back at right tackle. BLOOMSBURG DEFENSE: The Huskies will be talented on the front line and especially on the ends. John Pettine, who missed spring practice, is back after having a great 2010 campaign which included 7.5 sacks, while Dave Onorato saw action in all 13 games last year and was a key part of the team’s rotation. Ryan Olaf, who saw a great deal of time in 2010, will also be called upon to be a key performer this season.

On the inside of the front line five players will be competing for time. Shaun Moore is undersized, but experienced and one of the strongest members of the team, while Chris Kennedy had a great spring. Dylan Stair will also be in the mix.

Jarrett Pidgeon returns at linebacker to anchor the middle linebacker spot. BU Coaching Staff Pidgeon was second on the team in tackles with 77 last year and had 4.5 Danny Hale - Head Coach tackles for loss. A group of three others, Ryan Feldman, Sean Clift and Jeff Owsley, will be sharing time at outside linebacker. Paul Darragh - Assistant Head Coach/ Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Dylan Spangler will be backing up at middle linebacker, while Rick Bailey, Jake Myers, and Justin Shirk will compete for time at outside linebacker. Tom Pajic - Offensive Coordinator/ Recruiting Coordinator/Quarterbacks/Receivers Oscar Rivera, one of the team’s captains, and Vince Browning are returning starters for the Huskies secondary. Rivera was third on the team in tackles Brian McBryan - Offensive Line/ with 53, while Browning was sixth with 48. Behind those two will be a solid Assistant Offensive Coordinator group of players led by Andre Glover, Terrell Oglesby, Jonathan Patrick and Eric Thomas. At safety, Justin Rivera and Dan Haverstock will move from Chet Henicle - Defensive Secondary back-ups to starting roles this season.

SPECIAL TEAMS: It was a great start to the career of place kicker Dan Bill Perkins - Defensive Line/Strength & Conditioning Fisher in 2010. As a freshman Fisher set a school record with 20 made field goals (going 20-24), while connecting on 31 of 32 extra point attempts. He set a school record with five made field goals in a game against C.W. Post. Tony Ianiero - Running Backs Fisher will once again handle the placekicking duties and may see time at punter. Ed T. Rush - Kickers

If Fisher does not punt, look for Drew Siegfried, a left-footed kicker, to get Dave Shemaria - Tight Ends the nod. Returning as the long snapper is Ian Murray, while Mike Wagner appears to have the inside track as the holder. Jeff Wardach - Defensive Line

Danny Hale, one of the winningest coaches in all of Division II, will begin his 19th season at the helm of the Hus- kies in 2011. Hale also spent five years as head coach at West Chester University.

Prior to West Chester, Hale was an offensive line and defensive coordinator at Colgate from 1981 to 1983. Prior to Colgate, Hale was the offensive line coach at Bucknell from 1975-80 and was defensive coordinator/ linebacker coach at Vermont in 1974.

Hale is a graduate of West Chester, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Health and Physical Educa- tion in 1968 and 1973. He was an all-conference pick at West Chester and earned the team’s most valuable player in the 1967 State Championship game, while also lettering three times for the track and field team. He is a member of the West Chester Football Hall of Fame and the Delaware County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

Coach Hale has already taken his place in the NCAA record books and looks to climb the ranks even further this season.
