UNO DEPARTMENT WWNO/KTLN Public Radio Station

ABOUT WWNO PUBLIC RADIO “News. Music. Culture.” These words sum up what listeners hear on New Orleans Public Radio, the listener-supported NPR member station serving New Orleans and Southeast from the campus of the University of New Orleans. New Orleans Public Radio broadcasts local and NPR news, plus cultural entertainment on WWNO 89.9 FM and on KTLN 90.5 FM in the Houma-Thibodaux area, with 24-hour classical music on Classical 104.9 FM and WWNO HD2, and anytime on WWNO HD3. New Orleans Public Radio is licensed to and operated by the University of New Orleans.

For over 45 years, the combination of trusted independent journalism from NPR and non-commercial music and cultural content has made WWNO one of the top stations in metro New Orleans, and one of the top two stations in morning news. WWNO’s audience has continued to grow and is now one of the largest in Southeast Louisiana.

Since 2009 the station has steadily increased local news reporting to complement national and international news from NPR. WWNO has focused on priority news subjects--coastal restoration, public education, and arts and culture. In recent years WWNO’s local news and cultural features have won numerous Press Club awards, and seven Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for radio journalism excellence.

New Orleans Public Radio has launched programs devoted to local culture and cultural activities-- Inside the Arts, The Reading Life, All Things New Orleans, Music Inside Out, and Louisiana Eats! –as well as cultural news features like NOLA Life Stories and NolaVie’s Notes from New Orleans. With more and more WWNO news and cultural content reaching ears around the world, the station increasingly lives up to its aspiration to tell New Orleans’ stories to the world while it brings the world to New Orleans.
