From The Principal

Dear Parents, Staff and Friends,

As our school year draws to a close, may I take this opportunity to thank you, our parents, staff and friends for your support and commitment to Christ the King School. I wish you all a blessed and holy Christmas and a very peaceful and prosperous New Year. Please enjoy having your children with you over this summer time and look after each other. My thoughts and prayers are also with those who will be celebrating Christmas without loved ones, may you find peace and love in their absence. I am already looking forward to 2017 and seeing you all again.

Staffing for 2017

I would like to advise that Mrs Carole Crespan has been appointed as Mr Gerard Marsh’s teaching partner in Year 5 for 2017. I would like to congratulate Carole on her appointment. On a sadder note, Mrs Suzannah Halpin has applied for 6 months leave to care for her father who is facing some difficult health issues. Please remember Glen (Suzannah’s dad) and Suzannah’s family in your prayers. Mrs Brigitte Egan will replace Suzannah in the Year 2 classroom. The teacher in Prep Blue to replace Brigitte is yet to be confirmed.

Report Hold-up

As I said in yesterday’s email to parents, BCE is experiencing difficulties with generating reports through their Student Reporting System. According to Catholic Education they are working around the clock to resolve the issue. As a result, reports have not been able to be generated and printed today. We are working on uploading our reports to be viewed on the Parent Portal. They should be available later today or early tomorrow. Printed Reports will go home as soon as they are available.

On Friday we will be celebrating the end of year with a liturgy at 10:45am. All parents are most welcome to attend our celebrations. School will be finishing at 12:00 noon and parents are asked to ensure that arrangements have been made for children to be picked up at this time. Staff will be leaving the school soon after to celebrate the end of year with a luncheon and there will be no supervision available for children at the school.

Thank you to all our staff for your tremendous professionalism and service in 2016. We are indeed fortunate to be blessed with such a talented and dedicated team. We wish James Vandermaat, Anna Blumke and Tanya Oghanna every success in their future teaching and recognise their wonderful contribution to our school during their time with us.

Parents, thank you for your support of our school this year. Much of our success rests on partnership and I am extremely grateful for the spirit that makes CTK so wonderful.

I wish all those families who are leaving us this year every blessing and hope that the next stage in your child’s educational journey is wonderful.

School begins for children on January24 while the office will be open from January 16.

Have a blessed and holy Christmas

Trudy From The APRE

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Our long Christmas break is almost here; a time for renewal, rest and recreation. It is also an important time for us as Christians as it celebrates God becoming man in order to save mankind from its sin through the birth of Jesus Christ.

The birth of Christ is celebrated by 2 billion Christians all over the world on 25th December.

I trust you will celebrate the day with family and friends and that the gifts of Christmas cheer and goodwill fills your hearts with joy and love.

I would like to wish all families a safe and happy Christmas holiday.

St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal

We had a tremendous response to the St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal with donations totalling $760.00. Families and staff have been every generous and I have heard many stories of generosity.

True charity comes in the anonymity of giving so I will not name families but one of the students was telling me how they raised money by dancing in their street. As people stopped, the children told them about the Christmas appeal and passers-by then donated money towards the cause. The children raised close to $20. Another family ran a lemonade stall and donated the proceeds to the appeal. One of our school officers who works here only occasionally on relief, donated a substantial amount of money without giving it a second thought. I'm sure there are many other stories of generosity and they will all make a difference this Christmas

At Friday’s final assembly, the school will present a cheque to the local branch of St. Vincent de Paul with proceeds going towards the provision of Christmas hampers for the disadvantaged.

Thank you for your support of this worthy charity.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Mrs Bernadette Scodellaro, Mrs James Vandermaat and Mrs Therese Wilson for 15 years service to Christ the King. We are blessed to have such wonderful and dedicated staff.

Student Medication

If your child has any medication held at the school could you please collect the mediation in person at the school office before the final Assembly on Friday. Library News

Thank you to students and parents for chasing up overdue books. There are still quite a few outstanding so it would be great if we could receive those by Friday morning.

At this time of year I feel it is important to recognise the wonderful work of all our colleagues but in particular I would like to extend my gratitude to my favourite library School Officer, Linda Cunningham. The library could not do without her! Linda is responsible for coordinating the Book Club brochures and orders each year and gives much of her own time towards this. She is consistently covering books, shelving and helping in ICT lessons but her hard work may easily be overlooked. With her gentle, quiet nature, Linda is a true asset to the library and CTK and I am always grateful for her wisdom and support. Thank you Linda for all you do in helping to make our library great.

This Christmas don’t forget to check out the activities and events at local libraries and keep up the great reading, coding and spirit of imagination that we love to foster.

In today’s newsletter I am including photos taken throughout the year during library lessons and events. Lots of fun memories for everyone involved.

Wishing you all a very safe and happy Christmas and look forward to your smiling faces in 2017.

Hello all my name is Melissa and I am a self confessed touch football addict! Over my years 20 something years of playing experience I've grown to love this sport that provides a level playing field for players of both genders.

Touch football has had a heightened profile over the past couple of years following strategic alliances with NRL and most recently the success of local players such as Charlotte Caslick, , Petite, Alicia Quirk and as Olympic gold medalists in the Australian rugby 7s team.

I'm excited about the prospect of introducing CTK students to this amazing sport and helping them to identify playing pathways for the future.

I'm seeking expressions of interest from like minded individuals willing to be part of a team to help bring the sport of touch football to CTK.

As volunteers we would work together with staff to map out and deliver learning and playing opportunities for CTK students.

If this sounds like something you would like to play a role in please contact.

I will look to convene a meeting in mid January next year to start developing a proposal for the 2017 school year.

Used School Supply Collection

Kirsten Fogg (Elsa and Aria Walsh) is collecting used school supplies. Don’t worry if you haven’t got time to sort through your children’s school bags now. You can contact Kirsten at [email protected] or text 0407 88 52 88 to organise a drop off or collection in January. Just keep things you won’t be using again to one side: partially used notebooks, pencils, crayons, drink bottle, lunch boxes etc. The full list is posted at CTK.

Items are delivered to a primary school in an underprivileged area of Brisbane. The principal and teachers manage and distribute the items.
