QUEENS TIPublished forM the BoroughES of Queens VOLUME 24, NO. 30 THURSDAY, JULY 25, 2019 25 CENTS Vallone Announces Long-Awaited Point of View Traffic Control in Whitestone DOT Must Give the Public Proven Statistics Before Any Proven Implementation The council says a year-long study revealed evidence that fewer riders get hurt when cyclists follow the pedestrian signals. What study? The public should see the results before the NYC Council takes a vote. How can the NYC Council‘s Tuesday vote on a proposal to make legal cyclists follow the pedestrian signals. Where is the proof? How can any statistics be accumulated when bike riders fol- low their own rules? How is this so called study about a process that has not been put in place have documented results? Again, false statistics about bike traffic are being given over and over again. Some day DOT will give accurate statistics about bicycles on NYC streets. How can the NYC Council allow cyclists to follow pedestrian signals until public is made aware of the so-called study? Make the public aware of the findings before trying an idea when all other bicycle statistics show there are more fatal accidents under the new implemented DOT traffic roadways. Of course bicycle riders say it will keep them safer in traffic because they wear blinders and do not want to admit how unsafe it is to have bikes ride in the same traffic with cars and trucks; and, the critics are right that the new procedure will create chaos. Peo- ple are hungering for Democrats and Republicans to work together to solve real problems in real people’s lives. That’s what happened here. I guess working together for heroes is a good step forward. Let’s keep going. Over the last few months, I worked to help secure more than 300 bipartisan cosponsors for this legislation. Once we reached 290 cosponsors, the bill had to be voted on per House rules that I also helped create at the start of this year as part of the Problem Solvers Caucus.” Vallone Announces Long-Awaited Traffic Control in Whitestone (Continued from page 1) reached out to Council Member Councilman Paul Vallone, I am Vallone to report a series of sure this would not have been Recently, Council Member recent car collisions at the inter- done.
