On a seasonably cool Sunday morning at Churchill Downs, Kentucky Derby contenders Midnight Bourbon and Soup and Sandwich continued their preparation for the first Saturday in May with published workouts beneath the Twin Spires. Winchell Thoroughbreds’ homebred Grade 3-winner Midnight Bourbon breezed five furlongs in 1:00.40 while Live Oak Plantation’s Grade 1-placed Florida-bred Soup and Sandwich worked a half-mile in :48.80. Soup and Sandwich, the runner-up finisher in the $750,000 Curlin Florida Derby presented by Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm at Xalapa (G1), worked at 5:30 a.m. with jockey Declan Carroll aboard through fractions of :12.60 and :24.60. He galloped out six fur- longs in 1:13.60 and completed seven-eighths of a mile in 1:27.40. RECENT ARRIVALS – Several contenders from trainer Todd Pletcher’s arrived at Churchill Downs on Sunday including Derby-contenders Known Agenda and Sainthood along with Oaks runner Malathaat, according to senior director of the stable area Steve Hargrave. Sainthood and Malathaat vanned approximately 75 miles from Keeneland to Churchill Downs Sunday. Known Agenda arrived later in the afternoon from South Florida.Pletcher’s New York- based runners Bourbonic and Dynamic One were tentatively scheduled to arrive Monday. Pletcher will be stabled in Barn 42 at Churchill Downs.

Previously trained by Chad Brown, Country Grammer has not raced since last August when a distant fifth in the Grade 1 Travers at Saratoga. Roadster, winner of the Grade 1 Runhappy Santa Anita Derby in 2019, led before finish- ing fourth by less than a length in the Grade 2 New Orleans Classic at the Fair Grounds March 20. Country Grammer, a 4-year-old son of Tonalist who won the Grade 3 Peter Pan prior to his Travers outing, worked five furlongs Sunday in :59.20, a tick off the fastest drill at the distance of :59 flat by Baffert trainee Dark Prince.
