Program Specialist (Part-time Leader) Job Description

The Program Specialist position is a part-time who will run multiple Scout programs in the New Castle County area. This is a Part-time Position for a maximum of 20 hours a week during the school year. 20 hours a week from Monday through Friday. In addition to 20 paid hour per week, the Program Specialist will organize at least 4 trips per school year and organize summer camping opportunities.

The Program Specialist provides an active and imaginative after-school program and recruits parents to act as leaders beside them. The program specialist is expected to be self- motivating, friendly, to work independently and have a desire for community involvement. This position reports to the Council Executive.

Responsibilities: • Scout leader for a maximum 20 hours a week. These hours do not include paid travel time or hourly pay field trips. (Field trips will have separate pay as outlines in your employment contract.) • Work at multiple sites and serve as a Boy Scout Leader and a Cubmaster. • Complete Scout leader trainings as outlined by the Outreach Director. • Deliver weekly program for Cub Scouts as outlined in the 28-week syllabus that includes lessons in character development, sportsmanship, outdoor skills, and family togetherness. Use other Scouting resources to deliver a quality program including, but not limited to Cub Scouts Academic and Sports program, the handbooks, , Merit badge booklets. • Work with parents, teachers, school and community personnel • Organize, plan, recruit families to attend quarterly field trips and camp outings. Responsibilities include planning the trip, making permission slips, distributing and collecting permission slips, recruiting parents to attend, calling parents to promote trip, attending, leading the trip, and other duties as assigned. • Recruit and train parents to run different parts of the Scouting program. • Communicate with families on a weekly basis through phone calls and e-mails • Attend monthly leadership meetings • Maintain records for unit attendance, advancements, medicals, emergency contact information, and other important documents. • Recruit new youth to Scouting • Arrange local community service projects • Coordinate ordering and delivery of badges, uniforms, and other items from the local Scout shop • Recruit parents to be assistant Scout leaders, attend meetings, and attend trips • Plan recognition events to honor Scouts achievements at least twice a year • Arrive at each site at least 20 minutes prior to the announced start time prepared to deliver a fun and safe Scouting program. Never leave a program site until all youth have been picked up by the approved parent/guardian. • Strictly adhere to all BSA policies. • Enter achievements into online tracking system • Complete online Scouting Trainings and attend in-person trainings • Submit a weekly timesheet detailing hours worked and tasks completed. • Have personal access to the internet, e-mail, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel. • Be able to speak, read and write Spanish a plus
