Packed with events, including actual helicopter display and a Public Day. Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2016, to be held in October! Wednesday 12th to Saturday 15th October, 2016, at the West Exhibition Hall and Outdoor Exhibition Area, Tokyo Big Sight *Trade Days: Wednesday 12th to Saturday 15th October, Public Day: Saturday 15 October The Society of Japanese Aerospace Companies (Chairman: Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, President & CEO of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.) and Tokyo Big Sight Inc. (President & CEO: Yutaka Takehana) are proud to announce the Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2016, to be held over four days from Wednesday 12th to Saturday 15th October, 2016, at Tokyo Big Sight (3-11-1 Ariake, Koto-ku, Tokyo). Celebrating a 50-year milestone since the very first Japan International Aerospace Exhibition (JA) event in 1966, JA 2016 will be the largest ever held, with 637 companies and organizations exhibiting at 1,176 booths (as of July 13, 2016) in an exhibition hall about 31,000 m2 in size, located in Tokyo at the very heart of Asia’s economic activity. Transformation of governmental defense & space policies, revitalizing regional clusters, changes in the market, and market expectations of the aerospace industry—JA hopes to convey the very latest information from the aerospace industry, from both Japanese and overseas companies and organizations. The event aims to promote trade and information exchange among the aerospace industry, as well as promoting better public understanding of the industry and stimulating interest among young people. Highlights ■Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Aircraft will have a booth to promote the MRJ, the first Japanese-made passenger airliner in half a century! Exhibitors will include Fuji Heavy Industries, IHI, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Mitsubishi Aircraft, as well as KYB, ShinMaywa Industries, Sumitomo Precision Products, Nabtesco, and Mitsubishi Electric. Several airlines such as All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines have also decided to exhibit, as well as the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). ■The largest number of overseas exhibitors ever Overseas companies such as the Airbus Group, the Boeing Company, Arianespace, Bell Helicopter Textron, Elbit Systems, Honeywell, Leonardo-Finmeccanica, Lockheed Martin, Thales, and others have also decided to exhibit. Exhibiting at the US Pavilion will be General Atomics, Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon, Rockwell Collins, Rolls Royce, and others. ■Exhibition from Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency & a PR exhibition from the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Japan’s Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA), which was established as a new organization in October last year, is scheduled to participate on a full scale. In addition to promoting international exchanges with defense officials of overseas countries, ATLA also plans to support other small and medium-sized Japanese exhibitor companies. In addition, a PR exhibition from Japan’s Air Self-Defense Force is also planned. ■ Exhibition area for local governments, companies, and organizations from all over Japan Local governments and organizations around Japan will be exhibiting in support of regional clusters and companies, including special cooperation from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. This exhibition area will be arranged in the likeness of a map of Japan, and its aim is to promote the exhibitors as well as encouraging exhibition visitors. Transformation of Indian Naval Aviation Post New Inductions Rikeesh Sharma* The need for credible surveillance over the high seas forms the bedrock and foundation of infallible maritime security, and Maritime Reconnaissance (MR) is the basic input for any successful maritime operation. For the last two decades, Indian naval aviation assets have been dependant on the Ilyushin (IL), the Tuplov (TU) aircraft, the Kamov (KM) 31 and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The Fleet Air Defence has also received a fillip by the induction of the MIG 29Ks. At the same time, the need for Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance (LRMR) tasking has taken a giant leap forward with the Indian Ocean becoming a common operational ground and a global common for numerous navies.

Closing the line would also affect nearly 60,000 jobs around the country and leave the military without competing sources for additional fi ghter aircraft. The time to act is now. We urge Congress to include funding for Growlers in the 2015 budget.
